Rating: Summary: Excellent textbook and a must buy Review: The author of this book is an excellent writer. She makes learning anatomy and physiology easier. This book is divided into so many topics like skeletal system, nervous system, circulatory system. This book helped me as a undergraduate A and P student. It helped me form the foundation of my knowledge. However, if you want a really good study guide that focuses on key topics seen on college A and P exams, I highly recommend the following: Key Facts for Anatomy and Physiology by Patrick Leonardi This last study guide was on the mark for helping me prepare for the type of facts asked on my exams. I was recommended this book from another pre-med student taking a A and P course. Both books are must buys.
Rating: Summary: Yes, but... Review: This book is an outstanding achievement for a single author, and I have learned a great deal from it. I like the graphics, the layout, and the wealth of information. However, I do find many paragraphs and passages in this book difficult to follow, usually because crucial details are missing. See, for example the explanations of ossification (pages 181-183) and the countercurrent mechanism in the kidneys (pages 1022-1026). It took me less time to digest a whole book on the immune system than the corresponding chapter in this book (chapter 22).There is a web site associated with the book, which gives the student an opportunity to ask questions. I submitted a couple of simple questions several weeks ago, but have yet to receive a reply. Unfortunately, I don't know of any A & P book at this level that would be better.
Rating: Summary: This book is a great tool for a beginner in A&P. Review: This book is easy to understand. Every A&P student should look this book over. Complex systems and concepts are made simple by the authors use of common language. I usually have to have a dictionary near by with other books I have studied, but not with this one. The chapters are also outlined so you never miss out on the point of the material. There are also CDroms that come with it. They are okay, but not thorough enough on helping to learn names of all bones and muscles. The book has great pictures highlighting the parts of the brain, etc.
Rating: Summary: Coming from an A & P student... Review: this book is excellent. the index is huge and every term is listed there. it is well worth the money you pay for it.
Rating: Summary: Well Written, But Too Wordy, A Bit Spendy Review: This book is filled with detailed diagrams and condensed explanations that make it easy to find vital information. However I suspect, after reading the book, that it was written for future doctors and NOT simple A&P undergrads like myself. I often asked myself why I needed to be aware of all this information.
Rating: Summary: This text is far more understandable then the required text Review: This text is so easy to read and the concepts are broken down to language I could understand and interpet on my own without the use of other reference books. This book has been my saving grace this quarter at school. I wish our instructor used this book because it is far more useful then our required text. Actually, since I was given a copy of this book, I've put my other text on the shelf...I only use this physiology book while I'm studying now.
Rating: Summary: Buy it if you have to ! Review: Too much information for a first year level and this can be dangerous in the hands of an inexperienced teacher. Much of the anatomical detail is more suited to first year Med school. It looks like modern graphics and cut and past has resulted in info overload. Personally I found it a poor read I didn't enjoy her chatty style. Again this is a dangerous weapon in the wrong hands !
Rating: Summary: Informative and Easy to read Review: Unlike most science books this textbook is easy to read and understand, yet very in-depth and informative. Great for a variety of students science backgrounds. I would suggest this text for every college Human Anatomy and Physiology class.
