Summary: Just another good book
Review: This book is a good one, but has one little problem, the book doesn't have much coherence because there are too many people writting the book. You can note the difference of redaction between the chapters because were written for different person and that's what make the book very difficult to read, because one chapters are good, but others are very bad.
I prefer a book written by a few person because are much clear.

Summary: Good Pharmacology review, without great detail
Review: This book is basically a summary of Goodman and Gilman, without all the unnecessary detail. A good review text, and lots easier to carry around. Great for quick look-ups.

Summary: This is the greatest book for Pharmacology!!!!!!
Review: This book was my bible for Pharmacology. Even though "Goodman and Gillman" contains everything there is to know about the subject, which medical school student needs to know all of that. The book first starts each chapter with a review of fundamental physiology of the normal body. Next it describes the drug and its effects on the body. Next comes the clincal pharamcology of the drugs. The understanding of pharmacology from reading this book is unparalleled.

Summary: A great help...
Review: This is a really good book, and even someone like me who doesn't have an M.D. or Ph.D. can understand most of it. I particularly liked the section on antihistamines, which grouped them into the functional group "zine's" and "dine's" (ex. Loratadine, Cetirizine). The piperizine-based antihistamines cross the blood-brain barrier and produce sedation (Zyrtec somewhat, Atarax a lot), while the piperidine-based antihistamines do not cross the barrier (Claritin and Allegra). However, Vitamin C alone has antihistamine effects via inhibition of mast-cell degranulation. Vitamin C also has bronchodilator effects via inhibition of phosphodiesterase (much like Cromolyn and Theophylline do), without the side effects of these drugs. A more detailed description of Vitamin C's multiple effects can be found in the book The Failures of American Medicine.

Summary: The Best Single Volume On Pharmacology
Review: This is a wonderful book. Now in its seventh edition, it includes great details on physiological mechanisms. Highly recommended, even over Goodman and Gilman.

Summary: A very useful "Bible" for medical writers...
Review: Well, in reality I used just a part of the book, that one which refers to corticosteroids, but my judgement regarding that content is very positive... I was writing a monografy regarding a new launch of prednisolone, here in my country, and the book was really very useful for me... Gave me a lot of applyable information. That's all!

Summary: Excellent reference book
Review: Without a background in chemistry or a medical degree, this book is very difficult to read, never mind comprehend. The necessary level of understanding on the part of the reader requires far more than a "basic" understanding of formulas, chemical interactions and human biology.

The descriptive information provided regarding the book is misleading. If you a looking for a truly basic pharmacology text, purchasing this book is a rather expensive error.
