Summary: Fantastic Introductory Book on Investing in Rental Homes
Review: Having just read several books on real estate investment, I was reacting negatively to the "lots of hype" and high risk approaches. I found a review of Thomas' book on the internet at bainvestor and an interview with Thomas. They were so favorable, that I purchased the book.

Thomas takes a low risk, longer view approach that can easily be adapted if you prefer a higher risk to reward ratio. What I found very helpful as someone considering beginning in real estate investment was her practical down-to-earth, "I've been there" approach. This book is full of gems based upon real life; I never found myself wondering if there more fiction than fact (as I did reading several other popular books). I particularly found her discussion of calculating rate of return and 1031 tax deferred exchanges helpful. The discussion of lease clauses was also enlightening (I've written several before for organizations of which I am a member). As the fourth or fifth book I've read now, I'm trying to decide upon what approach I want to take. This book is great input.

If you are thinking about investing in real estate, then I'd highly recommend this book. It should be part of your working library on the subject!

Summary: Very Good Book for Small Investors
Review: I've read this book 3 times. It is written very clearly with specifics about the author's experiences in purchasing and managing rental homes, very little "fluff". Geared more towards beginning investors, but intermediate investors will also pick up some good tips.

If you're starting out in this business, get this book.

Summary: good read for the first-timer
Review: This book is not for the experienced investor, but for someone who is thinking about getting their "feet wet" at renting their first house. I liked the book because one does not get bogged down in the finer details. It is a good "basics" book and helpful for me.

Summary: Rental Houses for the Successful Small Investor
Review: Interesting book, but like the other real estate books I've read doesn't inspire me to invest right away. It has very practical tips on finding renters after you have property. I was looking for the book to explain more basic financing; this was not it, but worth a read.

Summary: We couldn't have invested without it!
Review: We love this book, so much that we have purchased several copies for friends and family members. We have followed its guidelines very closely in the last two years since we have begun investing in real estate, and we have been thrilled with the results our investments have produced. Not only does the author offer all kinds of practical ideas, from how to pick the right property to how to look for the best financing options, but also she encourages the reader to set realistic and achievable life goals without letting money (or the pursuit thereof) get in the way of happiness.

Summary: Basic but realistic and sensible advice
Review: Ignore those 1 star reviews, Suzanne's advice is right on and really works. Ihighly recommend this book. Follow Suzanne's advice and go for it.

Thank you Ssuzanne

Summary: Rental houses for the Successful Small Investor
Review: My husband and I have read so many real estate investing books you'd think we'd be experts by now. This was the first book that expained things in a down-to-earth, practical way. Everything from types of loans and how to use them to your advantage, when to leverage one house to buy another, and management methods is covered from her own experience. There is none of the pep-talk without details as in other books. We are now closing on our second investment property using this book as our guide.
