Summary: Small in Size Yet Incredibly Useful
Review: As an IT professional working in the financial industry, I needed a book that would help me talk to the users and understand what they are saying. This book has helped me a lot in doing just that. Whether I needed a definition of what SWAPS are or wanted to know the difference between a CDO and a CMO, this book helped me all the way.

You will also find this book useful if you are an IT professional going in for a job interview with a financial firm and want to familiarize yourself with the general terms of the industry. I am still amazed at how such a small book can pack so much information.

Summary: Much needed referrence
Review: Any one in business or in business school should have this little book. It can save a person from looking stupid in front of a customer or professor.

Summary: Endorsed by an elected treasurer.
Review: As the elected treasurer for a Califonia county we have had this wonderful little book since its 2nd edition.

Of all the reference and resource books we have at our disposal, this book ranks the highest.

The book is updated quite often and is worth its weight in gold!

Summary: More Than A Book
Review: Expect this little work to be exactly what it is titled, "Dictionary of Finance and Investment Terms". It does not contain a story, or financial advice, or commonly used terms. It is a financial dictionary. Its binding is "professional softcover" and has very thin pages- required due to 600+ pages. I notice some reviewers' felt it was not worth the money. Where else can you find a professional dictionary of specialized terms for under $12 ? I found the book so useful, I purchased Barron's Investment Guide, which includes the dictionary. I recommend both of these books (...)

If your looking for an enthralling read, the Finance Dictionary is not that. If you're looking for an inexpensive, professional little reference book, full of pertinent terms and explanations, this one will definitely earn its keep.

Summary: Excellent reference guide for the beginner!
Review: Great tool for brief financial definitions. Recommended for those who are new to investing and need to learn financial jargon.

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: Utterly worthless
Review: I bought a prior edition of this reference book in 1994 when I started a job as a financial analyst at an investment bank. I found the book utterly worthless in my finance career. The definitions are terse, out-of-date in many cases and misleading or inaccurate in others. This book contains a tremendous number of definitions and charts related to technical analysis, yet the treatment of some accounting topics and other items related to fundamental securities analysis is scarce. It is particularly bad for someone new to finance because you may not have the perspective to see all the faults in the definitions. If you are in your first finance job, you will be better served by a more serious book like the MIT Dictionary of Economics, which has a wonderfully rich discussion of finance, securities and business terms.

Summary: A must have for Securities Professionals!
Review: I don't know how many times I have been on the phone with a client and needed to refresh my memory. This Dictionary is a great desk reference for anyone that works in the Securities business. It works like a 'normal' dictionary, easy to use, and comprehensive.

Summary: I was dissatisfied--I returned my book
Review: I expected much more out of this book. There were many common terms that were missing, and the book is difficult to open because they try to pack so much into so few pages; as a result, you only need to open it a few times before the book is permanently bent.
