Summary: Here's what I think...
Review:
A great medical reference book that has been around forever. Probably more for medical professionals than the lay person though. Also recommend "The No-Beach, No-Zone, No-Nonsense Weight Loss Plan, A Pocket Guide To What Works" for evidenced-based guidelines on weight loss.

Review: A great medical reference book that has been around forever. Probably more for medical professionals than the lay person though. Also recommend "The Multifidus Back Pain Solution" if you have back pain from lifting patients around all day like I do.

Summary: Must have reference
Review: As a medical student, whose first exposure to the clinical subjects can be confusing and intimidating, you have a friend in the Merck Manual. The differential diagnoses and signs/symptoms of most disorders are laid out with the detail of textbooks, while cross-referencing many associated disorders. This is a good, concise alternative to other volumes of internal medicine texts.

Summary: A Second Bible?!
Review: As a Pharmacy Student in a clinical setting, I thought my bible was the Physicians' Desk Reference... Until I found this! Now, I can't live without either book. Both contain much wonderful information but it is assumed that you have some collegiate knowledge of science when reading about the different topics.
It is truly a wonderful wonderful book.

Summary: My Bible
Review: As a pharmacy student in a hospital setting, I often run across conditions I am not familiar with. This book helps me to keep my head above water as it details conditions (including etiology, prognosis, therapy and any other relevant fact you'll need), appropriate medications to treat and an easy and very complete index to help you find all that information quickly. It's unending number of pages is daunting but happily it is easy to read and incredibly helpful!

Summary: Good things stand the test of time
Review: As with all good things, the Merck Manual will always be around. It is gratifying to know that the 17th Edition will be out soon, since the 16th edition is about 5 years old. I look forward to all of the updates that will no doubt be listed in the new edition. I am a medical/legal consultant. Everyone who does this type of work MUST have this text if they intend to provide an accurate and clinically correct review to their clients.

Summary: Great Reference
Review: Being a medical student I find the Merck Manual a great reference. It would seem complicated for those who are not familar with medical terms but if you are looking for more info on conditions, diseases, etc. this is the place to get it.

Summary: Will buy it very soon!
Review: Being an inquisitive person by creed and nature; this, i.e, Merck Manual Diagnosis & Therapy (Includes Facsimile of the 1st ed. of the Merck Manual) by Mark H. Beers (Editor), et al, I had a strong inclination and desire to study this most honorable and well regarded piece of scientific literature. The paper is of a quality that leaves a bad taste in one's mouth; it feels to thin and one's is a bit weary of the pages getting damaged from wear and tear. In fact, I would verily pay allot more for a book with better quality paper. However, this little miniscule problem aside; the Merck Manual is a classic in its own right and should be a must have for any civilized gentleman. Being a huge fan of the field known as Psychology and its disorders; the section on Pschiatric disorders was very well written and truly a hidden gem. Highly Recommended.

Summary: IT IS MERCK; IT IS SOUND
Review: Considering that it is leather-bound, and close to three thousand pages, my first impression was that the price of this book is second to gratis.
But I must say that I was more impressed with the quality of information it contains. These simplified information were aimed at people with little or no medical background; (although even experienced medical consultants would appreciate them). Readers will be glad to have both diagnostic and therapeutic modalities (of virtually all known diseases) in this single-volume. It is another sound effort by Merck!

Summary: Great Legal Aid
Review: Doing personal injury and worker's comp. work, I often need to look up particular symptoms and injuries. This book is well indexed, easy to use, and as of yet has had everything I ever needed. It also cross refrences itself very well.
