Review: A raw diet is one of the worst things you can feed your dog, or any companion animal. The worst thing you could possibly feed your dog is raw meat with bones in it. There are huge health risks involved including: MANY, many different types of parasites in raw meat--cooked meat has at least killed off the parasites--might possible need quick medical treatment, or surgery Bone slivers can cause digestion problems including gouging out pieces of their intestions--needs surgery The bones themselves can get caught in their intestions--emergency surgery. While there are many other problems with giving your dog, cat, etc. raw meat (including liver, kidney, cardiac, etc.) these are the ones a person is most likely to see. Just because none of these have happened to you yet the reason is YOU'VE BEEN LUCKY!!!! I'll leave you with one last thought: An animal lives longer in captivity--the reasons for this are simple--better diet (not raw meat) and better medical care (which you will eventually need if you give your dog a raw meat diet.)

With a phD in canines (not just a a degree), he is one of the few vets who can really be seen as objectively analytical. This book is thoroughly researched, and is able to refer constantly to the research done by the pet food companies themselves which show the harm their own products do to our animals. In effect, what we read in this book, is the pet food industry is really no different from the cigarette industry, except it is possibly worse. At least cigarette manufacturers have to now put on their labels the damage their products cause. Unfortunately, our governments are still hoodwinked by the pet food companies, particularly where there are large amounts of money on offer. This book takes you down what is similar to the Erin Brockovich story. At the end of reading this book, you will undoubtedly be repulsed and disturbed by the problems caused by commercial pet foods. You will learn what to feed your dog and cat. After all, if we can feed ourselves and our families successfully, feeding an animal is really not that hard! It doesn't take rocket science to feed an animal. What you will learn is that pet food companies take rubbish, poison, and degraded products, and attempt to turn them into a product our dogs will eat. Dr Lonsdale has done an excellent job on this book and is to be congratulated. This book should be fundamental reading to anyone who still believes the myths of pet food company ad campaigns, and the lies of the most senior of their executives. They don't care about our pets - they simply care about their wallets and profits. And it is our pets who suffer most.

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Accurate how-to information and vital information for all Review: Dr. Lonsdale writes a wonderful book that tells a story, advances theory, exposes corruption and helps us help ourselves and our pets. The last Chapter, Chapter 14, brings raw feeding and pet health into focus at the leading edge of science. This book should be read and re-read by laymen and professionals in many fields. I noticed one reviewer complained that there was no 'how-to information' but I disagree. Dr. Lonsdale devotes an appendix to the 'how-to' and presents it in a simple, easy-to-read and easy-to-accomplish fashion. Much about the 'how-to' can seem daunting and ridiculous in the writings of others but Dr. Lonsdale makes it easy and takes the intimidating out of it. And then he gives us so much more.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: a must-read for those interested in dog nutrition Review: Dr. Lonsdale's book, "Raw Meaty Bones" is probably the single most important piece of literature on the subject of raw feeding and the pet food industry that has been published to date. This book offers an in depth, behind the scenes look at the pet food industry and its practices as well as the resistance of the veterinary profession to acknowledge the damage that processed foods have caused to our dogs. Dr. Tom has, at a great personal cost, written a truly great book which deserves close attention from dog owners, breeders, trainers as well as anyone working in the animal medical care profession. It ought to be obligatory reading for veterinary students. I highly recommend it.

Dr. Lonsdale is to be commended for his courage in speaking the truth and taking a stand against the 'big boys'.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Eye-opening informations! Review: I am living in Germany and have had dogs for more than 30 years now. Before that, I already learned from my grandfather that dogs are carnivores and need an appropriate diet to keep healthy. So I have always been wondering how the idea of feeding them only processed food with grains and industrial by-products as main ingredients could get into the mind of most pet owners in the modern world. Advertising is the keywort, creating fears not to provide the right food a dogs needs is another one, besides the "genious" idea of the pet food industry to take care of the professional education of veterinarians at an early stage in the universities. Decreasing health in our dogs has been the visible result over years. When I was a child there was only one vet in our town, nowadays we do have 4. They should all be unemployed due to the fact that most dog owners feed their dogs high premium kibble which provides the best nutrition we can think of! I don`t eat canned or processed dried food myself, and never ever would give that to my dogs. But Tom Lonsdales book has opened my eyes to the commercial background and unbelievable amounts of money in the business of commercial dog food. Now I do understand. And I would recommend his book as a must read for all veterinarians, all responsible dog owners and all persons who may have some influence regarding laws about what may be the ingredients in pet food. Money is ruling the world, but we should not let our pets be the victims. This book will open your eyes, too!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: An educated and logical way to feed pets! Review: I had the wonderful opportunity to meet Dr. Tom Lonsdale while he was teaching his "Raw Meaty Bones" seminar at Emory University. Tom gives excellent information that gives you very logical and scientific reasons to feed a natural diet, much like the dog's wild ancestors ate. This book will open your eyes! It will teach you to feed your animals in a way that may have never occurred to you before. You'll be surprised how efficiently your animals will consume their meals, and how completely your animal can digest bones. The most noticeable improvement you will notice when feeding this diet, is that "doggie breath" eventually disappears. Feeding fresh raw carcasses has an extremely beneficial effect on oral hygiene in pets. There are many, many internet support groups for feeding your pet a "raw meaty bone" diet. You can buy this diet in any grocery store, or you may prefer to buy in bulk through a buying co-op or at a wholesale meat supplier. This is a very cost-efficient way of feeding, because your animal will consume a lot less food overall. Try to avoid the pre-packaged raw diets if you can. Although they have many benefits, they do not provide proper oral stimulation, and will not clean your pet's teeth. They also do not support local growers and businesses, which is so important in the current sluggish economy. Tom Lonsdale is a long-practicing veterinarian, who has dedicated his life to promoting a natural way of feeding pets. I thought that Dr. Lonsdale was a very sincere, compassionate man, whose goal in teaching his diet principals, was to truly promote the best interests of our companion animals. I will hope you will read this book, and apply the knowledge gained from it to your own animals health and well-being. I highly recommend his book!
