Summary: Mainly just an advertisement for the IBD
Review: Whilst there is some useful information in this book, it is largely an unashamed plug for the newspaper "Investor's Business Daily". For example, an entire chapter (16: How to Make Money Reading the Daily Financial News Pages) is unreadable, as it talks ONLY of the "invaluable" stats available solely in that publication. I don't enjoy paying money to read hard-sell. You're better off buying something with a bit more integrity, like "One Up On Wall Street" by Peter Lynch. Good luck with the stock market.

Summary: How to Make Money in the Past
Review: This book have good reasons to subscribe to his newspaper, but when applied to the stock market- it doesn't come close. He lacks the fundamental and technical analysis that his competitors explain in their books.

The Founder of IBD keeps on trying to give you a sales pitch for his newspaper in almost every single page of the book. This is the only book that I've read that tries to make you buy additional resources from them.

Overall- This book is nothing, but a big sales pitch for his newspaper.

Summary: No Nonsense -- 100% Helpful
Review: It's so straghtforward it's silly. How to Make Money in Stocks. The funny thing is that what William O'Neil discusses in this book really works! His CANSLIM method makes sense and my favorite pattern, the cup-and-handle, has made me a very happy camper. His explanation of volume and volume spikes has help me find big moves on a regular basis in my trading.

I think that this book helps people earn more on their capital immediately by translating seemingly random price action into meaningful signals for investment that most people can understand. If you don't believe me, take a look at what a few of his students have to say. Kevin Marder and Loren Fleckenstein (formerly of O'Neil's newspaper, IBD) talk the talk when it comes to trading at TradingMarkets.com. Jeff Cooper, another successful trader and author, can't get enough of what O'Neil has to say.

Bottom Line: A very good investment of time and money.

Summary: How to Make Money in Stocks
Review: I read many books on investing but this is the one that opened my eyes and allowed me to make serious money. Making money in the market is tricky and with 10,000 stocks to choose from you need to be able to do two things well to succeed, 1) pick the best of the best, and 2) time your trade. This book will help you understand exactly how to do this.

This book will give you the HOW and his daily publication, IBD or Investor's Business Daily, will provide the WHAT. His book(s) go with IBD like a hand in a glove to give you the Midas touch and are truly worth their weight in gold. I cannot recommend his books or daily publication too strongly.

Summary: This book changed my life.
Review: After consistently losing money in the markets for several years, I stumbled across this book. I have since retired from my profession at age 32, and now live a very comfortable and mentally satisfying life trading stocks. I would recommend this book to anyone serious about learning to trade stocks. Thank you so much Bill O'neil!

Summary: Not an easy read, but worth it
Review: O'Neil may be a terrible author, but when it comes to investing he is top rate. I found this book difficult to read. Often times he speaks about something extensively and does not define it until several pages later. In some cases several chapters later.

However, if you're willing to painfully go over this book multiple times the knowledge you will gain will be priceless.

I recommend reading this along side his second book "24 Essential Lessons for Investment Success". It has a glossary of all the terms O'Neil likes to use, and it elaborates on and clarifys the most important issues. Everything can be learned from "How To Make Money...", but reading it along side the second book will make it a lot easier.

Summary: Outstanding Book
Review: I am 20 years old and of course not much trading experience. Thanks to this book I have been able to make more educated investment and increase my Portfolio net by 50% in just two months. This book explains the basic qualities that a company needs to have to be considered and healthy and growing company. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to make better investments in the stock market.

Summary: Old Master Tells All
Review: Good round up of the basics every serious investor needs to know, with lots of ideas you will want to go back to and revisit. Gives you the lay of the land. Also recommended: Lessons From the Front Line.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Not for the beginner....
Review: I was pretty confused by the charts and some of the concepts presented cos I'm a beginner. I also found that the book relied on the use of WON's IBD which is not applicable to companies outside the US....

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Must Read For Every Investor
Review: This book, by the publisher of the Investor's Business Daily, is a terrific guide to the selection and trading of winning stocks. O'Neil's common-sensical approach to the subject is refreshing, and he covers a broad range of topics. O'Neil makes regular reference to features of IBD that support this style of investing, not surprisingly.
