Summary: Excellent starting point: get your mind in the right place!
Review: O'Neil exposes much of the bad decision-making that most new investors are so eager to put into practice. He provides a straight-forward set of criteria to follow for successful investing, but readily admits that one must put in real effort to be profitable over time. A classic companion to the Investor's Business Daily (O'Neil is the publisher of IBD), How to Make Money is more than worth its modest price!

Summary: Not good investment strategy
Review: The author's CAN-SLIM investment strategy has several shortcomings, the main one being that it involves market-timing. I do not believe that a person following the strategies in this book will attain satisfactory long-term returns in the stock market. The charts presented in the chapter on technical analysis do not represent the cup-and-handle patterns which he claims represent superior buying opportunities. They are very vague. The practice of concentrating a portfolio in small-cap stocks, and using a -7% stop loss is a good way to generate a 7% loss in your investments on an ongoing basis. On the positive side: his discussion of evaluating earnings reports is useful. Every investor should know how to read an earnings release, and evaluate a comany's balance and income statements.

Summary: This book is welling with insight
Review: Since I bought this book I've read it 3 times. I made investments in the market with O'Neil's ideas in mind, and have been pleased with the results. Now I'm trying a subscription to Investor's Business Daily, a 5-day/week newspaper that gives me everything I need to know about what's going on... highly recommended.

Summary: VERY POWERFUL! A MUST READ FOR ANY SERIOUS INVESTOR
Review: William O'Niel has created a master piece with 'How to Invest in Stocks" Not mainstream, but not wildly radical either! O'Niel offers the best system for the long term "growth oriented" investor. I appreciate the fact that he is big on mutual funds, often overlooked by many investors. I also highy sugest as additional reading, "Yes You Can Be Financially Independant" by Stowers and 'Wealth Without Risk" and "Financial Self-Defense" by Givens.

Summary: What a great book!!!
Review: There must be reasons why this book keeps top the best selling list and so many people like it. It's simply one of the best ever written about stock investment. Very easy to read. This book comes with a cheap price tag, but it gives you the greatest returns. The reviewers here don't call it a Bible for nothing! Buy and keep this book for generations to come. The strategies in the book work any time, and any where.

Summary: Oneill is better than Buffett
Review: This book is a tell it like it is guide to understanding the market. O'neil makes two things clear, it's not easy to make money in the market, and that it can in fact be done. Much like anything it takes hard work and practice. Buy the book, subscribe to Investors Business Daily and continue on with your education. Good Luck

Summary: The Best Book on Growth Investing
Review: This is the best book on growth stock investing. If you wan't to supplement the methods and knowledge in this book, other must read books are Investor's Business Daily's (1) Guide To The Markets, and (2) High Performance Investing. These two books delve more deeply into describing how stock markets work. O'Neil, in his book How to Make Money in the Stock Market, goes through the technical analysis of the stocks sections (chart reading) without explaining in detail on why the charts work the way they do. High Performance Investing explains all that (and some more...). Guide to the Markets is available from Amazon.com but High Performance Investing is only available from Investor's Business Daily. These three books are all that you need to perform really well in the market (and not lose any sleep over it by worrying about what the market will do).

Summary: My Own Personal Bible to the Stock Market!
Review: This book single-handedly turned me into a winning investor. I lost a devastating 57% in my account in 1996 but posted at 46% gain in 1997. I'm already up over 20% in 1998 and March is only half over! Although I don't follow some of O'Neil's rigid rules (stop-loss, 5 year compounded annual earnings growth of 20%+), it still identifies VERY good prospects whose prices are resilient even in market declines. AN ABSOLUTE MUST FOR ANY SERIOUS INVESTOR! I WHOLEHEARTEDLY ENDORSE THIS BOOK!

Summary: My Bible of speculation
Review: O'Neil cuts through all the old Wall Street myths and cliches and shows you how to really make money in the stock market. I recommend starting with his CANSLIM method and then adding your own personal touches (finacial statement analysis, technical analysis, etc.) This way you save valuable time in your stock selection and have an even greater chance of success. No wasting time evaluating the "DOGS" of the market. Use CANSLIM to easily zero-in on the stock market WINNERS! Chock full of "O'neil-isms", such as, "All stocks are bad, they're only good if they go up", this book is not only enlightening, it's also entertaining. It's too bad that Mr. O'Neil has not garnered more media attention for being the genius that I think he is. After all, Warren Buffet is obviously a great investor, but he hasn't shown ME how to make a dime. If you want to take charge of your $$$ and you are the type who "chooses to succeed", HTMMIS is for you!
