Summary: Very interesting but quite technical
Review: This was the third of three stock books I read, and if it were the first, I think my head would have exploded! There is alot of technical information which probably needs to be read quite a few times to fully grasp. He emphasizes following graphic patterns on charting without fully explaining it. All in all, this is an excellent book which gives an interesting and informative investment strategy.

Summary: Naysaying the naysayers
Review: I found the book not only to be a relatively easy read, but able to hold my attention. One of the best parts about it is how Mr. O'Neil debunks some of our myths and misconceptions about investing (such as cutting our losses) with analogies from everyday life. I subscribed to IBD for a couple of months before reading the book, and the book made my subscription much more worth it. While I will certainly make mistakes and take losses down the road, I improved my portfolio by four percent in the three weeks after I started applying his methods. If you don't like the book, you probably haven't given it a try.

Summary: The author talks about
Review: cutting your losses at 5-7% down after 2 or three weeks of owning the stock. Geez, nowadays a stock can go down 5% in matter of hours, and be down 20% in a week.

Second, the section on reading charts is confusing at best.

Third, the book is seriously outdated in many ways.

Summary: Pandering for Investment money
Review: It is a sorry state of affairs when an investment guru panders you to buy his paper, the Investors Business Daily, instead of giving helpful advice as the title suggests. His circuitous and devious route will probably make him more money than he will investing in the stock market. His advice may have been the greatest thing since sliced bread in previous years but the rules are changing!

Summary: Big Disappointment
Review: The price is right but the book is hard to understand and read. I agree with a previous reader that the charts are way out-dated. O'Neil needs to better explain some of his theories regarding the stock market. As an investor who likes to read investing books, "big disappointment" would best describe this book. If you're looking for a book to describe how and why the stock market is today, then don't get this book. At best, the book describes the stock market in its existence in the early 90's at the latest.

Summary: A great book to start with
Review: William O'neil does a wonderful job in a book that describes the basic of investing. Although the book does promote other services and products Mr. Oneil provides or sell, it is still a great learning tool. The CANSLIM method for stock picking is a classic and the technical analysis lessons are of great value. The only thing i did not like is that the charts used in the examples are old and outdated. I would like to see some newer charts and illustrations in this book. All in all, it is still a must read in my opinion.

Summary: (Most) Everything You Need To Know To Pick Winning Stocks
Review: How to Make Money in Stocks? If you can make it through this book, you're half way there. Not written for beginners, Bill's book tells you in detail- what, when, and how to select a winner. This would be a great beginner's book if used in conjunction with Barron's Financial Hand Book or Dictionary of Financial Terms- just to fill in some basics..

The selection method detailed in this book is called CANSLIM. The information, and CANSLIM method, is based on years of research and number crunching with main frame computers some years ago. O'Neil and his associates profiled 100s of already successful companies to determine what characteristics made a company's stock rise BEFORE it was a winner. His findings, and the CANSLIM selection method, are explained in great detail.

William O'Neil is also the CEO and Editor of the Investors Business Daily. His CANSLIM method of stock selection can best be executed using his IBD Newspaper. Surprise! Bound inside, there is a coupon for 10 free issues.

"How To Make Money In Stocks" is not the easiest book to understand for the beginner. It's information though will help narrow down 1000s of stocks to just one or two. I use it as a reference book and refer to it often. Take some notes on the inside cover- your going to need them.

An excellent buy, this book is destined to be a classic. As William himself says of one of his chapters: "one of the most valuable chapters in this book.... should be worth several hundred times what you paid for [it]. I agree.

Summary: Down to earth and successful
Review: William J. O'Neill writes this book in an absolutely arrogant and conceived way. But as Andrè Kostolany (a stock market expert widely known in Europe) says, in the stock market you have to be arrogant to and totally sure of your oppinion, because if you get affected by the oppionion of the mass, you lose. Given his success, and his astounding methods William J. O'Neill has every right to be arrogant. His system works and will work. Absolutely recommendable.

Summary: I made 9 times My money in 18 Months.
Review: Mr. O'Neil book is fun to read and helped me make the right choices that made me lots of money. Buy it you can make yourself rich!

Summary: This one is in my bookshelf and isn't collecting dust
Review: I have been trading for 8 yrs and have been very profitable. I was first introduced to William J. O'Neil by a book called Market Wizards. He definitely deserved to be interviewed. I don't trade his exact system because I am an individual and had to design my own system but it does closly mirror canslim in a few ways. I read Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom and understand how to incorporate position sizing and was able to produce tremendous profits by changing differnt parts of my system and tweaking a few things. This is worth your time.
