Summary: Use your Head!
Review: Without even owning the book, I could have stated some of the information given by the other reviewers simply based upon what the book's intentions are in the first place. It should be noted that this book is intended for people in very specific areas, that it is meant to give information on aquiring money for a number of very specific groups. Because one person didn't find a group to fit them does not mean that another person will not; people seem to have an erroneous viewpoint of the book's purpose. If you want free money obtainable for little more than writing to an address (and there are few other places to obtain such addresses, another purpose of this book) then I suggest trying your state's Welfare program. If you're willing to do a little more than put pen to paper, this book shows you how to go about making your work pay off. I live in a very small, rural community and have few aquaintances, of those few at least two (the ones I've spoken to about it) have either gotten money using the information in this book, or know someone who has. The other reviewers seem to be expecting greenbacks to fall out of the front cover when the book is first opened.

Summary: amazon should ban this guy
Review: no joke i was watching his informercial about his book on tv he not only said govt grants but then turns around and says amazon is giving 1.5million in grants to create a distribution centre. I don't think so plus all of those grants there is always a catch ie a mortgage thing or its not a grant but like a tax deductable type grant so you still got to come up with your own money to pay for your expenses only pay less taxes thing thats the problem why they even call these grants when they are not.

Summary: Get this book at your library -- don't buy it!
Review: Actually, my "stars" for this book go well into the negatives, but I wasn't given that option. I teach grant-writing classes, and Matt Lesko has become a thorn in my side. I've been hearing SO much about him from starry-eyed students that I decided I needed to arm up on my knowledge about these free grant money offers -- and most of all Matt Lesko. So I started to research him. He's very, very slick. I've been able to find highly negative and even incriminating reports about him on various Better Business Bureau websites and via the U.S. government Small Business Administration. Those are reputable sources, wouldn't you say? I've also read numerous complaints from some of the poor people who have bought his books or gone to his conferences. I now share this information with the people who come to my classes and say, "There's all of this free grant money out there!" -- and expect me to teach them how to write away for it. Unfortunately, even documentation from the U.S. government doesn't always change their minds. People want to believe what they want to believe. Every "believer" I've met claims to know someone -- usually a friend of a friend -- who got "free grant money." When I ask, "Where did they get it from?" the answer I always get is, "I don't know. I just know they got it." In a nutshell, USE YOUR HEAD, folks! Anything that sounds too good to be true usually IS too good to be true. Don't believe everything you read! This man is a scam artist. Please don't waste $30 or $40 to buy his books. If you're still not convinced, then at the very least, take a look at his books at your local library *before* you put your check into the mail. You can also find investigative reports about these free grant money offers in the article archives of Businessweek, msnbc.com, and various other reputable sources.

Summary: A slap in the face!
Review: This guy is annoying. Everyone knows that a government loan isn't free money, and that getting approved for a grant is practically impossible for the average person. This exploitive book is like paying for the Yellow Pages, except it's not half as useful. Anybody who bought this obviously had a momentary lapse of judgment brought on by the disturbing and televised image of Lesko running around a water fountain in that appalling question-mark suit. If I ever see him walking around my downtown area, he's going to get a helping of second-hand creamed corn flung in his general direction. Hopefully he'll have the number to a good dry cleaners service. I eat Sugar Smacks for breakfast too, so he better run fast.

Summary: Surprised
Review: Personally, I'm very suprised amazon carries this book. I would expect better of them than to cary trash like this. Decieving infomercial junkies like Matthew Lesko rank alongside spam mailers on my list... I'd like to know what % of people that buy the book actually get grants, I'm sure it's either 0 or very very close to it.

Summary: Use your head indeed
Review: If you are a veteran, a student or a senior citizen this book is full of ideas that you are probabley already aware of. If you're young and in the prime of your youth don't even bother. There's no such thing as a free lunch and you're going to have to earn your way. In fact I find that this Lesko is a pretty slippery fellow bordering on weasel. He's pretty tricky with semantics and makes it sound like free money is just a phone call away. Yeah, well it is if you qualify or live in the particular state that has this program and chances are you don't. Also, Lesko likes to use words like beaurocrats, bills, mortgage, and credit card bills and tries to make it sound like you can get free money with a phone call. On the inside of the book you learn that it takes a lot of hardwork, and dillegence to even get through to the program you want. To me this guy is in the same league as those people that try to sell you miracle diets, as they both try to appeal to people that are looking for a quick fix.

Summary: Waste of time!
Review: Reader from Oklahoma, we know you are Matthew Lesko! You make so many references to yourself. Shame on you for writing your own review! If you are upset about your book getting bad reviews then trying writing a book with substance!

Summary: Worse Than Useless: Misleading
Review: Lesko is one of the slickest scam artists around -- and he has been around for a long time, making it sound as if "free money" is just a phone call away, when the reality is quite different. For the more than 20 years that he's been scamming consumers with his seductive pitch, notice how he doesn't have testimonials from anyone who has benefitted from his materials. That's because the only one who's been getting money off this scam is Lesko himself. Shame on him. This book does not even deserve a single star. Unfortunately, that's the lowest we can go.

Summary: It works, with lots of hard work.
Review: I've been absolutely amazed by all the negative reviews out here. Most of these reviews are from people that have probably never picked the book up, or simply don't want to do the work.

If someone doesn't know before picking the book up that much of the hype is just promo needs to wakeup to the real world. Anyone knows that if you're going to get government money you have to work for it and do the research and devote the time. I mean come on, does anyone really believe they can go out buy the book, call a number and be told right away congrats you've got a grant!

Here's some facts for those mis-informed individuals.
1. Matthew Lesko doesn't have the time to write positive reviews. The book's are selling themselves, he doesn't have to peddle for reviews. Get real!

2. It takes month and months to gather this information, it doesn't happen overnight. Places or agencies, do go out of business or change numbers.

3. As for the wrong information pertaining people to talk to regarding these grants. For your information, Lesko does not write his own books. Perhaps some of his researchers give out the wrong information. People will do anything to make money!!

4. There are grants and money out there, but those government agencies see Lesko as an enemy because once people find out they can get the money, that means those people will have to actually do some work and not pocket the money themselves.

At the present time I'm a on a TEAM of researchers for Matthew Lesko. I can tell you the money is out there, matter of fact I'm in the process of trying to get some grants. His researchers do a lot of research, but we aren't foolproof. Are any of YOU?

And for those that think you have to be diasbled or a minority to get a grant. Another falsehood. Most of the research i've done is, if those said people get the money it's not very much. Most of the money go to everyday white people. I suggest those that want to buy this book, actually talk to people that have READ the book. And, before buying the book, go to the library to make sure the book is what you want.

Summary: Great Lesko Pep talk Intro, much is out of date
Review: Love the Lesko pep talks in the intro--really true advice for your life. Like treating the people with respect when you call the government agencies. The only problem with this book is that all the numbers I called were disconnected they are so old. The point of paying someone for this information is to provide reliable information--if most of that has to come by telephone then making sure those are up to date is job #1. Matthew?

The one admission he makes that kind of shocked me was when he discusses writing. Apparently he admits that he never wrote a term paper in college to earn his MBA. That got my attention. He says he either had someone write papers for him or he bought them. Academic cheating is one thing but bragging about it is vile. Maybe his university should take back his MBA?

I have called Lesko's numbers for book information and ordering but have only reached, after long waiting, a voicemail box that would not take a message because it was full. Wow--there are that many people clamoring for free money? Hey, I better shove some aside to make room for me. I want my FREE MONEY!

I'd give this 4 stars only if the Government phone numbers were up to date--as is just 2 stars. In fact, after I found a government website pertaining to my needs the problem is all the recorded announcements for stuff that does not apply to what you are looking for. If you want anything free from the US Government you had better be ready to work for it. And I mean 8 hours a day work for it.
