Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent for 2nd year med school use and Step 1 review
Review: This book is a must-have for second year medical students and anyone taking Step 1 of the USMLE. It's great preparation for your second year classes, and the most concise and comprehensive text of what you'll need to know for Step 1. If you understand the material in this book, you will do quite well on Step 1. The information could be a bit better organized, but otherwise this book is unreservedly recommended.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The best prep beyond a shadow of a doubt!
Review: This book is absolutely a necessity for anyone intending to take the USMLE Step I. The book is an outstanding conglomerate of very high-yield material and has an accurate rating system for key review books for specific subjects which is simply invaluable for selecting review books from which to study. Essential for all medical students taking the USMLE Step I.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great for revision
Review: This book is crammed with highly condensed notes on "high yield material", covering antatomy, physiology, biochemistry etc. It's been specially designed for the Step 1 exam but it's useful for any kind of preclinical exam (i.e. I'm using it for the British BM part 1 exam).

You will find this book most useful when you already know a fair bit about each subject area; then you can look through it to revise what you know and spot anything you've missed. If you can cover everything in this book you'll only know the basics, but at least you'll know ALL OF the basics ! That should be enough to get you through Step 1 with a good score.

Another great thing about First Aid is its fully comprehensive guide to review resources, both books and on the web. It's also got useful tips for planning your revision.

All in all, a great study aid with a real medstudent-friendly feel. Recommended !

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent FIRST AID
Review: This book is the first book you should get on preparing the USMLE Step1. It contains not only the review of the subjects, but also informations that you should know on taking the exam. I strongly suggest this book especially if you are an International Medical Graduate.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: insufficinet
Review: This book provides a fair review of the first two years of medical school. But think about it, how can you fit two years of medical school into a few hundred pages (of large print for that matter). This book is not enough. If you are fine with at best doing a 230 on the test that you might be able to do that if you had First Aid memorized cold, but if you really want to rock the test then you better start getting busy right now memorizing some real text books. So if you just want to go to a mediocre residency in a noncompetitive field then this book is fine, but if you are more "type A" and crave a more affluent lifestyle that can only be provided by the more competitive specialities then you better only use this book as a last week review.

Just remember when the competitive residencies are selecting their candidates, it begins with the numbers. If you want to be making over 300 k a year you best be scoring over 240 on the test. I did and now I am an ENT resident at a high powered program. I expect to be making at least 500 K a year or more. I want some bling bling in my life and not be making a 120,000 a year in primary care.

Summary: help in an instant
Review: This book was very helpful when I was preparing for the board exams in the Philippines and for the US MLE. It helped me remember all the things that I studied during med school in a short span of time (better than digging up all those thick textbooks). The mnemonics were simple and very catchy.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent review
Review: This is a beautiful book for quick review with all important points included. Good for reviewing the main topics a week before the exam.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Great Overall review book
Review: This is a great book for overall review. I'd recommend buying it at the start of 1st year or the very latest the start of second year and use it as a review tool for exams. Make notes in the margins on things you think are important and aren't included. By making notes in the margins it will become the only book you'll need to study from because if you know everything in this book you are guarenteed to pass the boards.

If you like system-based approach, Step-Up is a great supplement, but it's micro section is poor

Summary: Great review for USMLE
Review: This is a great book for the USMLE test. It was on target with some questions and concepts. I also used the following which is also sold on amazon.com:
Microbiology Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers
(ISBN: 0971999635)
The second study guide was on target with a lot of microbiology USMLE questions. This study guide also was a thorough review for microbiology portion of USMLE. Buy both books to maximize your chances of passing the USMLE the first time.

Summary: great book
Review: This is a must have book for the IMG, the high yield topics and the refference chapter are really good for a relative short time preparation as we IMG have. I passed the Step 1 first attempt, following the advices contained in this book
