Summary: EGADS! This book makes perfect sense!
Review: I am a 20something trying to make heads or tales of my finance jungle. I don't know if you have ever looked for a good (good being the operative) personal finance book but it's scary out there. I wanted simple words for complex information and that is what Tyson provided. I understood all the solutions and explanations that this man gave. His solutions and posed problems based on the average joe. Not some bazillionaire who has cash to burn and a vocab that purely consists of 50-cent words. If you are looking for a place to start to understand how to manage you moolah, and spend wisely this is the book for you.

Summary: Covers everything but not everything well
Review: If you are debt ridden and don't know any thing about investing, this may be a good book to start. However, this book definitely should not be your only book. If you're free of bad debt, have read many other good books and on your way to investing, this book may not give you much. Eric spends a lot of time on the very basics such as 'how to save money or get rid of debt'. He overly emphasize on diversification. Or, 'diworsification' in Peter Lynch's word. He said you're uncapable to invest in stocks yourself. He wanted you to invest in mutual fund, and before hand buy his book "mutual fund for dummies". He ridicules people who encourage you to invest in stocks on your own. He said "If they are really good, they're too busy investing and won't be writing books, hosting web sites or selling news letters". Well, he's writing a series of investing books, more than any body. He complain that the web sites lure you and throw you with ads. Instead, he wants you to try "value-line survey". Talk about "vested interest", why would he want everyone to bypass free information on the web and purchase this subcription? Sure, there are phonies whose only intention is to sell subscription. But, don't under estimate too much on people. Eric noted 2/3 of all managed mutual funds are beaten by index funds over a 10-year period. Sure, may be even more. So, why would any one who MUST buy mutual fund need to look further? Why would any one need to read Eric's "mutual fund for dummies"? Even Peter Lynch didn't tell you just to buy mutual fund and not to invest in individual stocks yourself. Please don't try to invest in everything he suggests in the name of 'diversification'. Use your head and be focus.

Summary: Rocked the house!
Review: This book was extremly good as far as basic personal finance information goes. I took a class in personal finance the next semester in college and the textbook for that class was over $100 for the same information! I got an A in the class and wish I would have saved my self some money by using this book rather than the textbook.

Summary: I like it
Review: Read it. Love it. Live it. I bought this book and I don't regret it. I keep it by my bed for constant reading and re-reading.

Summary: I expected more
Review: As another reader posted, "good, but could have been better." Nevertheless, a good starter book and a easy read. Perhaps a future updated version could be more complete. For more advanced strategies, I suggest More Wealth without Risk and Financial Self Defense by Charles Givens These books will fill in the holes in Tysons book.

Summary: good, could have been better
Review: Eric Tyson has a pleasant, friendly voice and he's certainly done a comprehensive job, covering most financial issues--and simplifying many of them. My biggest problem with the book, isn't really Mr. Tyson's fault, it's the "Dummies" format. I find all the icons and the supposedly friendly format annoying and confusing. A few other ways I think the book could be better: First, it's often repetitive (I think it could be a 1/4 to a 1/3 shorter--even if they left in all the icons and cartoons); Second, the writing is a bit sloppy at times, and third, I wish he'd be more definitive with his recommendations. Of course, choice is nice, but us "dummies" need more direction. I actually preferred The Mindful Money Guide; this book masterfully simplifies financial matters, while still remaining comprehensive. It's extremely well written, has a good sense of humor, and doesn't forget there's more to life than the bottom-line.

Summary: BEST BOOK ON MONEY MANAGEMENT YOU WILL EVER READ. PERIOD.
Review: Thank God for Eric Tyson! Personal Finance for Dummies is simply an excellent book. I highly recommend it to all of my friends and associates. I have an MBA in Finance, and I have read & studied over 30 books on the topic of personal finance. Eric's book is the best - hands down. He is on the side of the individual small investor and consumer. This book is a virtual encyclopedia on good money management. It will be a classic in the field for many years to come!

Summary: ERIC IS ON YOUR SIDE, YOU WILL BE SURPRISED WHO'S NOT!
Review: In my opinion the Dummies series is the best line of reference books around(I own a dozen or so). Included in my collection is mutual funds for dummies, investing for dummies, and personal finance for dummies(all of which Eric tyson is the author). Although all of these books are informative readings, Eric's personal finance for dummies is the first I would recommend reading. Most of the "nuggets" that are in the other two books are in the personal finance book.

I don't know if Eric reads these, but I would like to thank him for his commitment to helping people like me. I have aready applied much of what I learned from him and feel extreamly confident about my financial future. THANKS ERIC!

Summary: A fine book.
Review: I really enjoyed Mr Tyson's book. Very well written and enlightening. For even more strategies and also a easy read, I highly suggest Financial Self Defense by Charles Givens. Givens goes into areas left untouched by Tyson. Tyson and Givens books should be on everyone's bookshelf serious about their financial future. Read and grow rich.
