Rating: Summary: Excellent text for primary care Review: After dismissing many books over the years as unsuitable for primary care for various reasons, my orthopedic colleagues at Group Health asked me to review this text as the one book which they have found which provides a comprehensive, well illustrated, clinically appropriate source for primary care. I was not disappointed. I found a useful book which provided the information I needed to know about the common musculoskeletal presentations in primay care, and sufficient information and caution about the less common ones. I was particularly impressed by the pediatric section, but as I used the index to look up the common diagnoses, I found that the information the book provided was appropriate for a wide range of conditions. The photographs and illustrations are consistent and readable. The information about primary care office management and the details of exam, splinting, exercise, and injection techniques is thorough This book provides a good textbook review of the subject and a useful, ready reference for the office bookshelf. I would therefore recommend it for primary care.
Rating: Summary: Superb! Review: An excellent overview of orthopaedics, with good sections on numerous conditions and injuries. Easy to use reference with attractive layout and introductory illustrations. I took off one point because the diagnostic images (x-ray, MRI, CT, etc) could be improved.

Rating: Summary: Easy to use Review: As a Flight Surgeon in the Army, I have traveled with this text from Korea to Bosnia. It is a must have for anyone in Primary care and especially military physicians on deployments, where Orthopedic surgeons are hard to come by. It is a clear, consice treatment based book. Which guides you through the physical examination, diagnosis and managment of common orthopedic problems. In particular it lets you know what the red flags are for further evaluation and consultation. Truly Magnificent!

Rating: Summary: Just a little more anatomy, please. Review: As a novice family nurse practitioner, this book has been tremendously helpful. My only disappointment is that it does not include basic anatomy. In addition, I think the title is a misnomer. It should really be called "Essentials of Skeletal Care" because there are no anatomical muscular references in the book.
Rating: Summary: Nothing less than excellence Review: I am a Family Practitioner in a rural setting. I have an extensive medical library, however I only have 1 copy of each book...except this one. I have a copy in both offices and one at home. The ONLY way to improve this book would be to make it free. And for what it is worth, Dr. Greene is one of the most pleasurable orthopedic surgeons on Earth to speak with. He knows more about the Human anatomy than God, yet NEVER belittles the questions he gets from us rural FP's
Rating: Summary: Dr. Snider, THANK YOU !!! Review: I like the step-by-step approach of this book. I particularly like the Pain Diagrams listing the diagnostic possibilities. It's like, practically, having an attending by your side.
Rating: Summary: And this is the third Must-Have book for primary providers Review: Just like the other two books, Habif's Dermatology and Current MDT, Essentials is always on the top of my packing list when I go to the military field exercises or during deployments. It's like having an on-call consult all the time. In Essentials, I like the beginning of each chapter with drawings of different sources of pain; it's like a graphic representation of differential diagnosis. Buy these books; you will use them again and again.
