Summary: Utterly amazing
Review: This book is GREAT! I've been teaching statistics to students who have little interest in statistics. In fact, most of them are math phobic. Students who use STATISTICS FOR THE UTTERLY CONFUSED to supplement their learning just love it. Jaisingh has a wonderfully creative mind. He reduces complex concepts to the most fundamental meaning. From that point, phobic students begin to understand the applications of statistics to their profession. Most importantly, they experience success and become less math phobic.

One particularly section of his book stands out -- z-score transformation. Understanding z-score transformation is a problem for many of my students. After class lectures and reading Jaisingh's elaboration of these concepts, students gain insight. Mose importantly than z-score transformation, students advance their knowledge regarding the relevance of normal distributions.

This is a worthy book for any math phobic student who is enrolled in a statistics course.

Summary: Not as confused...
Review: This book is very helpful to statistics students, especially beginners! The writing is very to the point. The quick tips are great and all tables, charts, formulas, etc. are easy to read. The problems and answers at the end of every chapter are great for review before a test!

Summary: Good, but left me wanting a little more..
Review: This book was of great help to me in my college level statistics course. I've bought a number of statistics books and this one was by far the most readable, clear and concise. My one disappointment was that the book did not cover regression, the F distribution and ANOVA which were part of my course.

Lloyd if you are reading this, perhaps you could include it in your next edition? This minor grumble apart, I would highly recommend this as a suppliment to your statistics course notes especially if you need a fast track book with plenty of good examples.

Summary: A GREAT source (especially for a math teacher!)
Review: This book was so easy to follow and to understand. I wish that I could have had this book years ago when I first began work in Mathematics. It is written in a way in which anyone can understand it, which is unusual for most statistics books. I would recommend this book highly to anyone that is looking for any type of guidance in Statistics.

Summary: Statistics for the Utterly Confused - Worth the Money
Review: This is a terrific book for newbies or as a quick reference for those of us who occasionally dip into the world of statistics. Although it just covers the basics, nothing fancy, the concepts are clearly described along with instructions on how to set up the tests in Minitab and Excel. Especially helpful are the concepts boxes - one or two sentences that put the particular test or concept into context.

Summary: A "Must Have" for any student taking a statistics course.
Review: This is an excellent aid for any statistics student. The chapters are written so that even a grade school student could understand the concepts. Important items are noted and formulas pointed out. I think that this book should be used a replacement for class text books. It is that helpful and easy to understand. I'm not very mathematically inclined and it is helping me pass the class.

Summary: Beating the statistics phobia?!
Review: While I doubt I will ever get over my statistics phobia, and I am not sure it is truly possible to use statistics painlessly, I am willing to concede that "Statistics for the Utterly Confused" has helped me more than any of the other references I purchased. The material is laid out clearly and concisely. Oftentimes the Quick Tips have given me the information I was looking for without having to read through pages and pages of explanation I already have or do not need in the first place.

This book is not intended for those who aspire to be staticians. But for an MBA student such as myself, it is a great supplement to text and classroom work.
