Rating: Summary: A must read for those who want to better sell yourself Review: One of the best books I've read to give ideas & strategies to sell something intangible - as ourselves. The author does an excellent job in explaining his point of view in an easy and entertaining way. He also adds great examples that help send the message across.
Rating: Summary: Good! Review: It's filled with concise points with lots of good cases to back. Direct. I have already given one away, and another's on loan. And the borrower is also extremely excited about this book.
Rating: Summary: An eye opener for those of us who think we are always right Review: I wish I had access to Mr. Beckwith's ideas years ago when I first opened my business. I have studied books to help promote my business for 22 years, and this one of the best. His lessons also apply to many aspects of life, outside of business. A must read for anyone seeking to understand why others don't always think like we do, even when we know (or at least think we know) we are right.
Rating: Summary: a real disappointment Review: the author wanders from one vague (often wrong) observation to another trying to tie them together into a semi-coherent theme. its a shame the other reviewers have been overly generous to this book, i wish i had not wasted my time and money on this book. there has to be a better alternative for this very important and interesting subject.
Rating: Summary: I loved this book Review: This is a wonderful book that reads easy and presents efficient and entertaining "nuggets" of advice on bettering your service. Excellent. I have already bought two others for friends.
Rating: Summary: "Modern?" Marketing without mentioning the Internet Review: Good for the base elements of marketing, but fails to address the criteria-first-based world of the Internet. "A Field Guide to Modern Marketing" left out the most modern way to market. It's absence makes the rest of the ideas appear dated and quaint (not worthless) just not up to speed.
Rating: Summary: "Marketing the Invisible" Would be More Apt Title Review: This is an interesting and, at times, provocative book. It provides some good suggestions and insight into the art of marketing and communication the value of an intangible or service product. However, the title is misleading. Don't expect to get a run-down of great selling tips from this book. It really is geared toward the Marketing and Communications professional, not the Sales professional. That said, I did pick up some intersting and useful ideas so I wouldn't say my money was wasted.
Rating: Summary: Audio Cassette by Jeffrey Jones makes excellent companion! Review: Just listened to the audiobook of Selling the Invisible while driving to and from work. The actor, Jeffrey Jones, does an excellent job of reading the text of a summary version of the book (not the whole text). Jones "sells" Beckwith's classic tome on marketing in an energetic style worthy of several replays!
Rating: Summary: Great Snippets--perfect for Email thought of the day. Review: This book, with a ringing endorsement from Harvey Mackay on the cover, is written in concise paragraphs which are perfect for those who send out a thought of the day around their office (citing all appropriate sources of course). This book was highly recommended to me by marketing pros in the education field and it did not disappoint. I found the best information to be in the last third of the book. Take notes so the nuggets are not lost amongst the ordinary rocks. All in all a good quick read about the basics of marketing services.
Rating: Summary: The best business book I've read in years! Review: Beckwith has managed to compile situations, examples, and suggestions that face each of us every day in the business world. This book is invaluable in navigating the issues and mysteries around effective marketing. I can now market myself and my business more effectively. Short, sweet, to the point, and very enjoyable reading... wish I had read this years ago!
