Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I wish I had had access to a book like this 25 years ago. I always purchase this book for new teachers in my building as well as experienced teachers who are having difficulty.
Rating: Summary: This book should be reviewed every September. Review: This book is the ultimate teacher's resource. It is terrific for new and veteran teachers alike. The ideas are absolutely solid and lead to success. I am most impressed with the authors' strong moral fiber and understanding of what works in life and in class, and what doesn't. It is my plan to review the book annually for its powerful rejuvenating effect, just before I open my class to the children who will depend on the positive, strong leadership they need from me.
Rating: Summary: Easiest way to become a better teacher Review: For any teacher wanting to become a better teacher, this book is a must read. I was one of the first teachers at my high school to get the book and coincidentally we watched his videos as an inservice. Almost immediately every teacher wanted to borrow my book. Wong's "methods" were quickly adapted by almost every teacher and the results have been phenomenal--both the students and teachers have noticed the difference. Wong has made us all better teachers.
Rating: Summary: A Must Buy!! Review: Like others, I happened to pick up this book at a teaching store. I recognized Wong's name from other workshops and wanted to experience his writings. He is succinct, to the point and knows his stuff (she does too). It's worth it's weight in gold and this won't be one book I'll let other teachers borrow.
Rating: Summary: Excellent suggestions for teachers, both new and veteran. Review: Mr. Wong gives very practical suggestions about classroom control beginning with the first day of school. He stresses the importance of establishing classroom proceedures from the first day and "practicing proceedures" when they are forgotten. His video is also excellent.
Rating: Summary: This book will save your life in the classroom! Review: This book gives you practical, step by step instruction for running a highly structured and successful classroom that students will not only function but enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely essential tool for any teacher -- beginner or vet Review: When I first picked up this book, I thought I'd browse through selected portions of it to get the general drift and see if there was anything I really wanted to delve into more deeply. How wrong could I have been. Once I began reading the first few pages on for whom the book was written and how to use the book, I could not put it down. Every page is filled with practical, classroom-tested wisdom for the teacher. From how the class should pass in their papers to that dreaded phone call to the parents, this book is the reference every teacher needs to have handy. Experienced teachers will find validation for some things they are already doing, but they will undoubtedly find even more things they can improve. This veteran teacher was almost embarrassed to learn techniques which were so logical they were almost self-evident. Unfortunately, they were not. That's why this book needs to be a ready reference for any teacher.
Rating: Summary: FIRST YEAR TEACHER'S SURVIVAL GUIDE!!!!!!!!! Review: Upon graduating, I felt in my heart I would receive a primary grade job! Imagine my surprise when I got 7th and 8th grade! After reading this book, I felt I was ready for anything. My students didn't even figure out that this was my first teaching experience until the end of the year! That is how prepared this book makes you. I used this book's techniques daily, and I had a successful classroom as the result!
Rating: Summary: The one and only book teachers will ever need! Review: I've just been to Dr. Wong's conference and was among the first group to get a copy of his newest addition, published December 1997. The day after his conference, I tried one of his techniques and my class ran so much smoother. I cannot put this book down! Dr. Wong explains in detail why the first days are crucial to the success of any teacher and when the first days are smooth, the whole year will be different. It was easy reading and humorous at the same time. A must have for beginning teachers!
Rating: Summary: The ideas are easy to use and really work! Review: I am a veteran teacher of 13 years. I have used quite a bit of Wongs techniques after I went to his workshop about 9 years ago. Now I have the book to guide me so I can make sure I use all of his techniques. For those that have been "Wonging It" already, you may want the book because some of his techniques have been updated from several years ago. One idea he had was to display your high school diploma, college diploma, family pictures, any awards you have received, etc. in one area so the kids will know that you are a real person and not just a teacher
