Summary: Clearly the best i've ever read!
Review: This book gives the average biology (or non-biology) student not only an overview of cell-biology, but gives in-depth information on nearly any subject regarding this matter.

It easy to read, starts on the basics before explaining complicated matters and it got the BEST illustrations i have ever seen in such a book!

My opinion is, that anyone only remotely scientifically interested in the subject of cell-biology should get this book!

Summary: A must-have!
Review: This book is an essential tool for both students and professionals that need to broaden their knowledge in molecular cell biology. It provides the fundamental concepts and contains high quality illustrations/graphics. The CD-ROM is also a valuable tool that one can have as it contains basically the book itself.

Summary: Scatterbrained
Review: This book is so scattered and disjointed. Topics don't flow, random jumps are made, and the text is written poorly to top it off. If you're going to get a cell biology book, get Molecular Biology of the Cell, Fourth Edition by Bruce Alberts. Might be a bit thicker but for the same price you get much better information.

Summary: One of the best, comprehensive books of its type . . .
Review: This book offers a comprehensive overview of molecular and cellular biology. The book introduces up-to-date concepts in the field using research techniques involved in discovery. A must for anyone interested in cellular biology

Summary: An excellent book
Review: This book really helped me in the undergraduate program in Biology, in my research work and in my preparation to graduate program. It is easy to read and its explanations are very clear

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A very up-to-date book in the field.
Review: This edition of Molecular Cell Biology represents the tremendous effort of the authors in presenting the concepts of many important cutting edges of molecular biology. Some references are from "1999" publication. The size of the text is smaller than the previous edition because some of the sections are omitted. Most of them deal with the classical experiments that give rise to the modern concepts of particular topics that we know much about nowadays. If you would like to learn more, you can easily find them in the older edition of the text. The figures drawn throughout the text are clear and beautiful. The explanations that link the text to the figures are easy to understand. The questions at the end of each chapter are especially designed for students who wish to take MCAT exam...again if you want to practice with the more advanced questions, you can find them the previous edition. Overall, despite its expensive cost, this book is an excellent one to help you learn much more about the current molecular and cell biology.

Summary: Highly recommended
Review: This is a book that stands out exceptionally well in this subject, both in terms of the information content and the writing style, along with the illustrations and accompanying CD-ROM. The authors have done an excellent job here and the book is fascinating to read.
Here is a short list of the items that are particularly helpful in the book: 1. The material on CD-ROM, particularly the polymerase chain reaction, sequence-specific cleavage by a restriction enzyme, plasmid cloning, creating a transgenic mouse, and in-vitro mutagenesis of cloned genes. 2. The background biochemistry in the first two chapters; the treatment of biochemical energetics is exceptionally well-written. 3. The excellent figures and diagrams. 4. The questions and problems at the end of each chapter. 5. The discussion of the replication cycle of the rabies virus, and on classification of animal viruses. 7. The overview of the genetic and physical maps of the circular chromosome of E. coli. 8. The discussion of chromosome walking. 9. The overview of the Jacob-Monod model of bacterial gene control. 10. The discussion on transport across membranes and stages in photosynthesis and light-absorbing pigments. 11. The dynamics of actin assembly and microtoubule dynamics during mitosis. 12. The discussion on cell-to-cell signaling. 13. The overview of neuron structure and function, particularly the treatment of action potentials. 13. The discussions on long-term memory and regulation of cell death.

Summary: Best Text for Current Molecular Biology I Own
Review: This is a very good text book for a senior undergraduate, or introductory graduate level, course and students. I am a senior undergrad taking courses that are available to first year grad students and ambitious senior undergraduate honors students. I have found this to be the best reference I own. It is highly readable for those with a biology background looking to learn more about cutting edge data, techniques and theories. It was required for an introductory graduate class in Molecular Biology-Genetic Mechanisms and Nucleic Acids. I have used for Biochemistry classes and as a great reference when reading scientific research papers for Cell Biology and other courses. I highly recommend this book. I am not a book seller or a book reviewer, just an interested student of biology.

I would recommend this book for those interested in upper level undergraduate or graduate level molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry. Some knowledge of biology is assumed, but as long as you have some introductory biology background, you should be able to get the most from this book.

Summary: Oustanding
Review: This is an extremely enjoyable and clearly written textbook on a very difficult subject. The explanations of numerous concepts and procedures are clear, concise, and thorough. The visual aids are superb - easy to understand diagrams and illustrations that definitely enhance and support the explanations! This is by far the most useful textbook I have encountered that covers general topics in molecular biology and cell biology. It is a bargain at $90, and I highly recommended it.
