Rating: Summary: Physiology?? Review: This is a good book if you need a simple review of physiology. But it doesn't have any practice problems so you can't test yourself to see if you really understand the concepts.
Rating: Summary: Lots of information, very complete Review: This is a good book on physiology. It is complete and I used it as a reference to help me study for the Physiology portion of the Chiropractic Part I National Boards. I also used: National Board of Chiropractic Part I Study Guide: Key Review Questions and Answers by Patrick Leonardi This second book helped me to pass the boards. I definitely recommend both books for the boards. Both are must-buys.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: This is one of the bests Phisiology book you can find, it's very complete, and organized and it's easy to understand because the way the texts are explained. It's excellent if you have time to read it, but if you don't have try the smaller version.
Rating: Summary: Still the best Review: This is still the best textbook in physiology beyond a doubt. I just wish they hadn't stopped printing the lower level verison because there's a lot of poor physiology textbooks out there.
Rating: Summary: Still the best Review: This is still the best textbook in physiology beyond a doubt. I just wish they hadn't stopped printing the lower level verison because there's a lot of poor physiology textbooks out there. What's good about it? 1. It's accurate - something that's been greatly de-emphasized recently. 2. It's comprehensive and fairly well balanced - You have pretty good balance because the individual faculty members have responsibilities for selected chapters (I know this because I worked in Arthur Guyton's department). 3. It's relevant - The very best clinical correlation and, most importantly, is designed to support rational diagnosis. Most physiology textbooks are actually designed to facilitate memorization (using memorization instead of understanding is why many physicans can't make a correct diagnosis when the case is not clear cut). If you're a medical students, don't waste your time on any other text book. You owe it to yourself and your future patients to learn it right!
Rating: Summary: Do Not Rely On This Text As A Primary One! Review: This textbook is not good. It is wordy and very confusing. Definately not a text for a busy medical student.
Rating: Summary: A must for any Medical related field Review: Unlike other books you will buy and sell as classes require, this book will most suit your needs by staying in your personell library. This book will not get dusty there, it will be sought after time and time again as a wounderful reference for all questions pertaining to the subject of physiology. Any time you can open up to a subject and recieve information without having to flip from chapter to chapter for your complete information is wonderful. The volumes of information just flow out when you open up this book, and as changes in the medical world come about so do the editions of this book. But, don't discard the older editions just because there is a new editon, the quality doesn't fade with time.
Rating: Summary: A great book with a small comment . Review: While reading your textbook , I think I found a small mistake . In page no. 334 unit 5 " The Kidney & body fluids " Figure 27-3 . The diagram shows counter-transport between Hydrogen ions & Sodium ions through the brush border of the tubuler cells of the kidney . Sodium ions pass from the tubular lumen into the cytoplasm of the cells wheras Hydrogen ions pass from the cytoplasm of the cells out to the tubular lumen . The red arrow that indicate the movement of Hydrogen ions is wrongly drawn ; it shows the opposite direction of the movement... Mohammed El-Diasty
Rating: Summary: Very complete, but best used as a reference Review: You can't really go too wrong with this text, especially as a reference. My main problem with Guyton is that the writing style is often soporific, tedious, and rambling. Parts of the section on heart action almost sounded like a parody of a really awful college lecture. For anyone planning to study physiology systematically, I would strongly recommend Berne and Levy's *Physiology* over Guyton. The Berne book is equally comprehensive but has much better layout and genuinely good writing.
