Rating: Summary: This classic text just keeps getting better Review: Once again Dr. Guyton and Dr. Hall have released another edition of his text and once again more improvements have been made. While the text has been worked on to improve flow for the the reader, The figure placement could still use refinement. I cherish this text for its depth and understandability of such a broad spectrum of physiology. I thank the authors for their contribution to so many doctors' educations.
Rating: Summary: This is a good book of Physiology Review: Physiology was one of my required subjects when I was in my third grade in the medical school. At that time,I bought a very famous Physiology textbook, but then I found it hard to read. I felt so frustrated that I almost give up reading it. Fortunately, when I saw Guyton's textbook, I felt it not only easy to read but also have good basic concepts we must know. I am happy to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Really good Review: The only downside of this very good textbook is that it's poorly illustrated.
Rating: Summary: The Most Outstanding and Authoritative Physiology Textbook Review: The Textbook of Medical Physiology is the only physiology textbook dedicated to medical students. The vast quantity of contents are well-organised into serveral units that enable readers to appreciate the comprehensiveness and depth of physiology with ease. In addition, the information are kept abreast of the latest development in genetics and cell biology. I highly recommand this book to you.
Rating: Summary: An okay book on physiology, but... Review: The whole book itself is way too long-winded. Simple concepts which could be explained in one or two sentences are instead used to fill up pages of text; not only that, but the same concepts are repeated over and over again throughout different sections of the book. I guess the authors like to hear themselves talk. And then there's the annoying sections like the one where they go on and on about something elaborately called "Einthoven's Law" which is nothing more than simple KVL from basic circuit theory. Stuff like that is just plain annoying, because it feels like you're wasting your time reading a long-winded, substance-wanting text. They should consider renaming the book from "textbook of medical physiology" to "physiology for dummies." Here's an excerpt from the book: "If the net potential of lead I is positive, it is plotted in a positive direction along the lead I axis. Conversely, if this potential is negative, it is plotted in the negative direction." Numerous passages like the one above make you feel frustrated and annoyed. Time is a valuable thing to waste; I would suggest getting a more condensed and better organized book on physiology.
Rating: Summary: Need to be up-dated Review: This a good traditional physiology book, but needs to have more up-date concepts about the molecular basis of physiology. The book is very extense,. but handle very old concepts. Now the molecular biology have and important impact in all areas of medicine, and I believe this book not include importat molecular concepts. The book was good before the molecular biology and gene revolution. I believe that the book handle past histoy.
Rating: Summary: First Years---Buy this book! Review: This book is amazing! Guyton's explanations are so lucid. He really makes the subject come alive. Replacing the required Constanzo with this book saved me a lot of grief and headaches. Remember: You are responsible for own learning. And, Guyton is a very good resource to turn to.
Rating: Summary: Testbook of Medical Physiology, 10th ed. Review: This book is for a graduation gift for a nursing student. My review is actually based on the previous edition which I have been using...I am assuming that the 10th ed. is simular except for inclusion of the most up todate changes. Because the previous edition was so useful to me (I am a nurse with an MSN) I felt this new graduate would benefit from her own Guyton. I have been a user of Guyton for years (34) and have never been disappointed in its content or it's ability to explain a situation to an extent that I could now understand what was happening to a patient and why a course of action was being taken or to give me enough information to advise appropriately on a course of action.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book for a Student Review: This book led me through my years of Physical Therapy School In addition this is not only great for a Physical Therapist it will help a Medical Student! Excellent Reference Book as well.
Rating: Summary: THIS BOOK WOULD HAVE BEEN IMPECCABLE....BUT.... Review: This book would have been impeccable only if the authors/editors were more patient and careful. It has a number of misspelt words. There are few figurative illustrations when compared to similar more-than-one-thousand paged texts; and some of them were poorly done. But these aside, I find the contents, particularly the areas that dealt with Physiochemistry, very interesting. I love the comprehensive outlook that most of the chapters wore.
