Summary: It is very easy book for medical student
Review: I learned Physiology at last semester . At thaat time I use schmit (german author) It is very hard to read for foreign(not English using) medical student. But Guayton is very easy for us. SO I recomend this book for foreign mediccal student.

Summary: Very good and userful book
Review: I think, it is really good and interesting book, and all medical students must have that great book. I use it very much not only in physiology, but also in some other medical branches. I think that the newest edition is the best, if we compare it with older editions of same book.

Summary: Helpful, readable reference
Review: I was first introduced to this text while going through cardiovascular technician training, as it was one of many texts signed out to us. I found it to be a great reference while in school and referred to it frequently when I had questions or needed clarification on various aspects of general physiology.
After I graduated from my program, I purchased the updated version for use in my continuing education and for research for classes I teach. I especially like some of the "off-the-wall" topics included in this text that may not be normally found in other books (for example, basic dive and altitude medicine).
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in a full-coverage reference on physiology.

Summary: The BEST Physiology book
Review: If you are an undergraduate preclinical medical student you must look at Guyton. The text makes this often tricky subject easy to grasp. If I had one complaint it is the diagrams - more color please!! But overall, no other text covers the subject so completely with such stylish explanations.

Summary: Physiology comes to life!
Review: If you usually don't read textbooks, but are curious to know more than what is presented in physiology lecture, this book is for you. Textbook of Physiology is so well written that in addition to helping in physiology, it proved to be an invaluable resource in the seemingly unrelated fields of biochemistry and immunology. Although there is no required reading in the pursuit of medicine, if there were such a list, this book would be at the top.

Summary: This the Bible of Human Machine
Review: It is very nice book. Everything is explained in details, up to date (of course if you get the latest edition). Chapters are arranged according to systems. Requires certain background in Cell Biology, Biochemistry and Human Anatomy. Fundamental concepts are not repeated here for memory refreshment. There are some but not many clinical applications which I wish there was more. Some applications of drug therapy again very minimal. A book that you will refer time and time and once you grasp this book in it's all dimensions you can start to link etiologies to each other and everything makes sense.

Summary: This book is so awesome it's ineffable
Review: It's impossible for me to convey how great this book is. I am a second year medical student and rather burnt out on pathology right now. But then ah yes I listen to Guyton's sweet melodic words of physiology and realize that here is a physiology text book that actually makes sense! The way this book flows from topic to topic is just heavenly. Learning seems to not be so much a chore but rather a homeostatic mechanism--Guyton sends ripples through your brain, and your only option is to LEARN PHYSIOLOGY! And Guyton is great at making correlations between physiology and pathology, or biochemisty, etc. His book is actually a book about MEDICINE, using physiologic principles as the foundation. I agree with the reviewer who said that all graphs/figures are explained well--they are indeed. I think that his judicious use of figures only increases the value of this book, because he spends his time wisely talking about physiology rather than the results of some experiment which I'm not even sure was performed in the first place. Conclusion: 5 stars is too modest, try 50!!
