Rating: Summary: Integrates subject and object Review: Oh yes. I agree with all the rave reviews. I want to draw your attention to what may be the most valuable contribution of all, that can be told to you. Whatever method you attempt, it has to fit both you (the subject) and the market (the object). It doth partake of the mystical. In practical terms it means a method may be great but if it goes against the grain, if you can't sleep, if you constantly second guess, if it takes too much (or too little) work, forget it. By experimenting you should end up with something finely tuned to your taste. This is the holy grail. Nothing else could work. Very few authors stress this aspect as does Tharp. Just don't blow your wad before you get there!
Rating: Summary: If you want that edge in the markets, you need this book! Review: Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom is a must read if you plan on ever being successful at making money in the markets. I was first introduced to Dr. Tharp's work in a book in which he is interviewed called Market Wizards. Market Wizards is a book which give inspiration to any trader because it feature interviews with the legend status traders who make great returns and always have for many years. Dr. Tharp is the last chapter in Market Wizards. Trade Your Way To Financial Freedom showed me it is possible to trade and not gamble by putting the expectancy in my favor, with a system that fits the individual investor/trader. The discussion on money management is unlike anything else covered anywhere. I read an article where Dr.Tharp is interviewed in the July issue of Stocks and Commodities magazine and what he talks about is so down to earth , but so far ahead of anyone else in terms of Money Management/ position sizing. It is one of the major components of any trading system but most systems barely scratch the surface. Take responsibility for your results in the market and start by trying to imporve yourself. Start by reading this book and implementing the ideas presented.
Rating: Summary: The Best Book On Bank Roll Managment Available Review: I have to give it to Van Tharp; he has done an excellent job. I disagree with him on a few issues but I still think his book deserves 5 stars or more. This might be the best book on trading ever published. I have given a lot of bad reviews on this website, but for good reason; all of those "trading" books are pure garbage. Not this one. You will learn more on the subject of money managment from this book than all of that fixed fraction, fixed ratio and optimal F cr*p out there. You will learn the importance of position sizing as Tharp likes to refer to it. This is not a book on methodologies if that is what you are looking for. This book deals with expectancy. A concept that every trader should know about. I do disagree with Tharp on one thing though; his disregard for a solid methodolgy. He states that methodology is only 10 percent of the battle. What utter nonsense! Methodolgy is no less and no more important than bank roll managment and pyschology. You need all of them.
Rating: Summary: What is the turkey from Istanbul talking about? Review: The author does mention his course and website in passing, but I would certain not consider his fine book to be an advertisement. What is the turkey from Istanbul talking about? The author goes into detail on the 6 elements of a successful system.
Rating: Summary: Advertisement for his workshops, letters, software etc. Review: He knows some stuff but you are not going to get it for 20 dollars
Rating: Summary: This is our favorite trading book. Review: This book captures the fundamental understandings of trading. You should not make another trade unless you incorporate the lessons contained in this book into your trading plan. Do you understand why you are a trader instead of an investor? Do you know the difference between investing and trading? Do you know the importance of having a disciplined approach to choosing your trade size, your trade entry and exit? If your current trading style does not parallel the trading concepts described in this book, you will either destroy your account or be the recipient of undeserved luck. This book is quite simply the best book on the subject of trading.
Rating: Summary: Unique in focus on position sizing Review: Tharp writes clearly, even about deep material. His concentration on winning through carefully limiting the size of one's plays is his major contribution. This book will be less valuable to readers who have not thoroughly tested their systems enough to know the expected value of trading it. It is, in any case, a good read for traders of any level. Regretably, the technical editor overlooked an error in the discussion of a mathematical development, but the sharp-eyed reader should pick this up from the context.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievably enlightening book. A necessity for all traders. Review: Trade your way to Fiancial Freedom is an absolutely transcending book on the stock market that leads you into an incredible amount of information that remains terribly succinct. Dr. Tharp introduces the idea that the "holy grail" of the market, is not in some secret book somewhere that's hidden and only given to "professionals", but the holy grail is inside yourself. Despite this reasonable truth, it still can be a long journey to find that in yourself and you're likely to return jaded without the aid of this book. Dr. Tharp takes professionals in different areas of the market (from T.A. to Arbitrage) to elucidate points continuously throughout the book to give you an idea of what could be best for you. He foreshadows his ideas of position sizing until the very last chapter, which is the only spot where position sizing, TRUE position sizing, is going to make sense. If you're not using some sort of conscious position sizing, and Tharp warns that many have a misconception of position sizing initally anyways, you could be cutting yourself out of tremendous profits. I recommend this book to anyone investing or considering investing. I'm almost sure it will teach most any knowledgeable (and novice) trader a number of things.
Rating: Summary: Best Trading Book Available !!!!! Review: As a professional trader, I am convinced that the only better trading teacher than Tharp is experience. Tharp forced me to take perspectives on my methodology that I never would have considered had I not read his book. As a result, I was able to immediately implement his techniques and philosophies into my own trading and profit enormously because of them. Highly Recommended. Also Recommend: Market Wizards, New Market Wizards, What Works on Wall Street
Rating: Summary: We Don't Need Anymore SuperTraders! Review: This book is packed with good information, and with it anyone could become a good trader. Tharp's book pokes holes in traditional entry based systems, and instead focuses on exits and position sizing. His study on how well you could do with random entries and good money management alone is worth the price. Unfortunately, if all traders read it and follow the great advice given, it will be a lot tougher to make money! I have read this book cover to cover 3 times already, and I pick up new info each time. This book ranks up there with "Market Wizards" and "New Market Wizards" as the best of the 50 or so investing books I have read.
