Rating: Summary: Much more than a self help book, enlightening Review: This book reminds me of "Who moved my cheese?", though it's relatively longer. With outstanding stories and practices, such as "giving an A (to all those aspirational)" and "rule number six (dont take yourself so goddamn seriously)", the authors had put something important but easy to remember concepts into the readers mind, which certainly help them a lot in getting the right perspective/mind/means in dealing with most daily life problems. Can be a classic. Shouldnt be missed by those regular readers of self help/improvement books.
Rating: Summary: Unlock the Chains Review: This is an excellent book. Well written and full of inspiring examples of reaching for the stars. The only problem is that the authors do not give us a concrete formula for reaching these stars. If you like this book you will love "I'm Rich Beyond My Wildest Dreams. I am. I am. I am." by Thomas L. Pauley and Penelope J. Pauley. They are a father/daughter writing duo that has given us the tools to reach our dreams. Great story of their family's rise to wealth and happiness and the system they used to get there. Their book will unlock the chains that hold you down.
Rating: Summary: Inspiring read for personal growth Review: This is an inspiring read for my personal life, and certain examples touched my heart deeply. Downside - I don't have much context for the authors' examples, though it's thought there is application of this to the corporate world. Was looking for a "thumping good read" to boost me on the job, and it more boosts me outside work world. Would a book more geared toward work maybe written by the authors+ a businessperson be a good next move? Hard to say. Still, as a former Landmark Education Graduate of many, many adult education classes, it was enchanting to see Landmark's concepts of creating possibility and vision embodied in the book. It's also exciting to consider those concepts being read about by many folks everywhere via Amazon.com
Rating: Summary: 1970s Cult Jargon Fest Review: Ugh. How much of this Werner Erhard inspired sludge will we have to endure before the whole disgusting mess either dissipates or compacts down into an easily disposed of loaf? Familiar to any cult-watcher, the buzz words spill freely here. They are words and concepts that can mean anything to anybody. Fuzzy, new-age pap which the authors unashamedly admit come from the culty, self-improvement seminar called Landmark Education which used to be Erhard's "est." Sad to say, many Landmark devotees are encouraged by their participation to "create" endless testimonials reflective of their own egos, swelled to megalomaniacal proportions by various psychological tricks and techniques, and the Landmark Corporation by proxy. "Spreading the word" is part and parcel of the whole trip. Keep a shovel handy.
Rating: Summary: Give Yourself the Gift of Possibility Review: What can I tell you about this book? My first words of advice would be to disabuse yourself of the notion that just because it might land on the "self-help" shelf, it's merely another missive filled with affirmations, platitudes, and high-minded, unachievable objectives that will leave you feeling that to change the nature of your existence is a long, hard process, too daunting for a person already exhausted by the mere prospect of getting through another day. Phew! We've all had enough of those kinds of books, and the ideologies served up to us by people who seem to be still battling the incongruities of their own lives, while force-feeding us remedies for ours. (I'll mention no names!) Each chapter of this book presents us with simple practices, and frameworks that can truly help both to bring about a sea-change in the way you view yourself and others, as well as the circumstances you find yourself in. From the basic premise, that "It's All Invented", to the practice of "Rule #6",(don't take yourself so seriously),to the principles of "Giving an A",(allow for the beautiful statue inside the craggy marble), the Zanders generously share their personal and professional lives with us to illustrate how these concepts have transformed their own lives as well as those of many others, and having met Mr.Zander several weeks ago, I can attest to the fact that he is one of the most joyful, engaging people I have ever met. I only wish that the book came with a recording of his Chopin performance, described in the book, and which I was privileged to experience first hand, to help speed you on your own journey towards the realm of possibility.
Rating: Summary: Thank you Zanders! Review: Wow. This book is amazing- one that I will read many more times as a reminder of how to approach each day. I wish it were required reading for everyone... family, friends, world leaders...
