Summary: Both a must read and a fun-to read book for managers
Review: This book opens the eyes of anyone interested in management to the fundamentals of running a business. It is wrapped inside a very interesting (and yes, even thrilling!) "real-life" story which is written so well that this book could be a best-seller just because of it.

Summary: A Question of the goal
Review: What's Alex's fate if his plant can not get enough orders or his wife has an affair?

Summary: Only useful in manufacturing? Certainly not!
Review: Common sense, easy to read, but most of all in this book about manufacturing the author describes situations that can be identified in every process, not just in manufacturing. The scenarios he comes up with are certainly worth a few good thoughts as well. Therefor as a project manager in the business of software development I recommend this book. The only minus - which in my opinion cost this book its fifth star - is the finish. I had the feeling that the author had finished his message and did not know how to finish the book. I was hoping for more excellent and sensible stuff though.

Summary: Essential for any manager leading through inevitable change.
Review: This book is the bible of problem-solving techniques for managers who will lead through change and improvement...which are inevitable in any industry. It lets you know that as a manager, you don't have to have all the answers, you must know how to find the problems and apply techniques that will solve them while enslisting the minds of your people to do the same. This book is very inspiring for anyone who seeks to constantly improve professionally and personally.

Summary: The best book I have ever read
Review: There are no words that can describe this book, but what I can only say is READ THIS BOOK NO MATTER WHAT IS YOUR JOB OR POSITION.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent book that challenges typical thinking processes
Review: As a management consultant I found this book very useful as a tool to analyze a variety of problems related to business functions. Although the story revolves around manufacturing operations, I was able to apply the concepts to a current client in the education industry and the concepts helped me view the institution's problems in a different manner. The fact that is written as a novel made it an enjoyable read and I found myself not being able to put it down until I was done with the book.

Summary: Point Missed
Review: I think the point was missed by many readers of this book. You can use the "Goal" philosophy in everything, not just shop floor management. I Have been using it in my career since I first read the book in about 93 and have improved my career dramatically. I now hold a management position with no prior management experience or degree and only an Associates Degree in my field.
