Rating: Summary: Best manual on the subject Review: I've been trading for 9 years and have read most books on swing trading. This one is definitely the best. It should be considered the "bible" of swing trading books. Any experienced trader would learn from it. For a beginner, it is a must, but only if you devote a lot of time to the materials. It covers the topic matter in detail, and with authority. It is accurate and highly detailed. It stands alone and should become the classic reference on the subject of swing trading.
Rating: Summary: Not for everyone, but definitely for me Review: This book doesn't suit everyone's trading style. It's not a good beginners book, or one that simple hobbyists will enjoy or understand. But for those with experience under their belts, this is a well-written and incisive work on the markets. Be prepared to spend a lot of time going through the text, or skip it and move on to some twinky book you can get through in a day or two. This one demands your attention, but the payoff is worth it.
Rating: Summary: A New Classic on the Subject Review: This book is a gem! I 've read dozens of books on trading stocks, futures and options, and Alan Farley's book is at the top of my list. This is probably the best modern book on swing trading and TA. I would recommend it to anyone who has done their homework. and doesn't need handholding. The author's methods offer great insight across many trading styles and instruments, not just swing trading. I've been applying them with great success the past few months. His charts are well annotated and drive home many aspects of his teachings. You can't go wrong buying this fascinating book. I found the writing style challenging, but rewarding. It gets my highest recommendation.
Rating: Summary: I highly recommend this book Review: This is the best trading book I have read over the past 7 years, both as an investor and a trader. It is the only one that describes both the context of trading (psychology and internal mechanisms) and then goes on to show ways to exploit it. This is a practical digest, even if the content requires a little extra thought and effort. It breaks down a complex business into usable idas, strategies and wisdom. It is written with a pro's experience, but can benefit beginner and intermediate traders as well as pros. I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Very hard to read Review: I'm an attorney and couldn't get anything out of this. I've read just about every major book on TA and this just was not up there. I wouldn't waste the money. I've borrowed it from the library on 2 occassions thinking it was just me the first time -- not the case. Like someone else said, it looks impressive but good luck trying to get anything substantive out of it.
Rating: Summary: Made me trade better Review: Mr Farley has written an outstanding book that requires commitment by his reader. The materials are multidimensional. In other words, there are often several ideas or concepts to be gained from each piece of his presentation. The end result, for me at least, was a rebuilding of my trading style, attack approach and overall performance. I am a lot closer to my goal of trading for a living now than ever before. I have to thank this book for a lot of the progress.
Rating: Summary: There are much better books out there. Review: I realize there are many people who are very passionate about this book, but I am not one of them. I bought this book when it first came out and have tried multiple times to get something out of it. I just can't. It is an impressive looking book to flip through, though. There are complicated looking charts throughout, and the natural first thought is how exciting it will be to be able to utilize these charts and the tools behind them. I kept reading and reading, waiting for him to get to his point. It just never comes. And the book is written in this almost sing-song like tone. I wish I was an English major so I could better describe it. It's almost like reading an endless string of fortune cookies. Here's a random example from a random page I just opened up to (all of the writing in the book is just like this): "Modify personal style frequently as skills grow. Experience awakens fresh tactics. Trading rules should not strangle fresh ideas. Update them to incorporate your trading evolution. Decide where to place focus at the beginning of each market day. Choose wisely and setups will explode as predicted." Picture over 400 pages of this kind of writing and you have this book. I realize I will get panned by those who are, for some reason, really into this book. I am writing this review to try to appeal to those who can be objective. There is a common thread among the negative reviews for this book. Pay attention to it. It is not just a coincidence.
Rating: Summary: Short Term Investor and sometimes Swing Trader Review: This book is not for the beginning Trader. It serves as a wake-up call for us want-to-be Swing Traders. The book is filled with proven techniques that you as a trader must tailor to your style of trading. I have started to make money as a Swing Trader by modifying and verifying my trading indicators as he suggested. This is where this book comes in being useful. Farley gives numerous examples that are helpful in Swing Trading, however please take note he is not to confirming on holding over night trades or weekend trades. Farley has also published several Videos that illustrates some of the refined points of Swing Trading using Technical Analysis(covers lots of ground). If you need a closer take on applying traditional indicators to intraday trading see John Clayburg's Four Steps to Trading Success. He shows you how to modify them to work on intraday charts and his methods seems to work.
Rating: Summary: Best Release on the Subject Review: I've read many other swing trading books, and this one is the clearly the best. It shows advanced techniques that work. and tells readers how to apply their own ideas to the market An excellent addition to my library.
Rating: Summary: Very useful for traders Review: I turn to this book all the time, even though I read it months ago. During the first read, I wasn't sure it would help me trade better. As it turns out, Farley writes about these little things I overlook about stocks and how they move around. Some of the stuff is real subtle but it tells me exactly what I'm seeing at the time. I don't think anything I've read on the subject comes close in capturing this information like this book does.
