Summary: Required reading for the option trader
Review: Options as a Strategic Investment is the best book I've read on option trading. It is not a "get rich quick" book by any means, it is a nuts and bolts tutorial on the pure mechanics of option positions and strategies. It is easy to read, and each concept builds seamlessly on top of the last. It's a great read from cover to cover, but also a great reference guide for the quick review of a forgotten concept.

Summary: Is this the options 'bible'?........
Review: Other books may--but probably don't--deal with specific topics relating to options trading better but this is by far the best all rounder. I've read it cover to cover in this edition (4th) and also the 3rd yet I still, even as a fulltime options trader, refer back to it. The insight, experience and answer is always there.

I recommend it to strategists who attend my seminars and I recommend it now.

Summary: Paperback version is ONLY a workbook
Review: Please note, if you order paperback, it is not the text of the hardback version, but only problems to work on.

Summary: The Authoratative Reference
Review: Quite simply, this book is all you will ever need to trade equity options.

The fundamentals are clearly explained and each trading strategy is amply illustrated with the help of many examples and associated graphs.

If you buy this book and don't understand its contents, then you must infer that options trading is not for you. On the other hand you will learn quickly why options trading puts you at the top of the food chain (75% of option expire worthless, so why buy them when you can sell them?) The only downside to this book is that you come out the other end feeling like an expert in the subject, engendering you with a false sense of experience. One or two trades should put such arrogance in its place.

Summary: The most complete options trading instruction!!
Review: Still use those Buy-And-Wait way to make money till market turns? No more if you have patient to finish this big book, it teaches you how to make profit and limit the risk on the underlying stocks you own by different options trading strategies; no matter the stocks are bullish, bearish, or just lying there dull.

If you concentrate on options trading only, it's a Must-Read book to improve your ability in options trading. Don't just hold a call and put and wait for it expires when the market doesn't go your way. There are many applications to inllustrate how to change your simple call/put orders into spread, straddle, butterly.....ect, in order to protect your asset and make profit in a mobilized strategies. At least, save your premium.

I will say the readers who like to read this book must have the basic knowledge in fundemental and technical analysis first; with patient and preparation, even you have only $10,000, you can still make it $50,000 like me in this bad half year. Hope all the readers enjoy the book and your future wealth^^

Summary: This is the STUDY guide NOT "the book"
Review: The 2 reviewers before me praise this book highly. So I ordered it. When I got it - it is not at ALL the book the other reviewers claim it to be! This is just a bunch of "quizes" to take AFTER you read the REAL book. The title on Amazon is deceptive, it makes it look like you can choose between softcover & hardcover, but the hardcover is the "real" book*, the softcover is JUST the "Study Guide" so not only are the reviewers deceptive but the title is deceptive. Now, maybe after I get a copy of the real book I will decide I *like* the Study guide as well, but don't buy this book thinking that the Amazon title is correct. Look at the picture very carefully - you'll see the difference between the real book & this "not the real" book.
*Of course, in the future there may be a softcover version of the real book, so when you read this review, check other softcovers to see if you can now get it in softcover. This review is Oct 2002)

Review: the best book about options i've ever read!

Summary: The premier options text
Review: There are a couple dozen- possibly more- books in the marketplace on stock option trading. The last six or seven years have seen an explosion of such books. This is the only one that you need to read to get started in stock option trading; the other books really add nothing to what McMillan presents in 'Options as a Strategic Investment'. Other books give more in depth treatment to the theory behind option pricing and to options on futures contracts. However, if your interest is stock option trading, this is the only book that you will nee

Summary: Out dated material
Review: There was a time when Larry was the only show in town. However, those days are long gone. This book I bought and returned to the store. Too technical, filling space at times.

I went to an Omega Research seminar where Larry spoke. The audience actually fell asleep. As I admit did I when Larry droned on. The book does the same it drones on about options with no application.

I have to wonder can Larry actually trade or does he make his money from his high priced seminar series. Either the Schaeffer or Fontanills books are easier to follow. I bought both from Amazon at great prices
