Rating: Summary: Skepticism Saves The Day! Review: I am constantly on the lookout for reliable, fresh talent so that I can bolster my trading knowledge. After performing some simple due diligence on the authors I have concluded that I cannot allow either Velez nor Capra to further their public misrepresentations. After searching the publicly available NASD website, I discovered that Mr. Capra simply does not have the proper background to give out stock advise. According to the NASD, Capra owned Capra Service Center which was apparently a Gas Station. Velez was previously an employee of Jumaycan Theaters where he held clerical duties. Velez also indicated that he was evicted from 27 homes and has managed a hedge fund, both of which there seem to be no records. Furthermore, Velez mentions on his website that he services 70,000 or either 10,000 accounts but in fact has less than 100 people in his chat services. Also both Capra & Velez show through the NASD that they are registered as series 7 brokers for a company called Mastertrade which has the same address as their business. The track record on their website indicates a track record that emits a 50/50 chance or less of success. Velez has the tone of a preacher with a meaningless message and has no business dealing with the public in that all of their claims are clearly bogous.
Rating: Summary: Authors style is difficult to take Review: The first half fo this book is unendingly painful to read because of the authors condescending style, shameless promotion of his trading seminars and trading center and "we are the best thing since sliced bread" attitute. Thankfully, this eventually exhausts itself and the second half actually has a few good tidbits for beginning traders.
Rating: Summary: A superb book! Review: Dear Oliver,Thanks for your superb job. I have read your book from cover to cover from the Library of Congress Catalog data to the About the Authors, and I am sure I will reread it several times. It is not my first book on the subject, but for sure it is the best! It is time VERY well spent! Best regards. Andrea Milano - Italy
Rating: Summary: This is my Trading Bible. Review: One of the best daytrading educational sites on the Internet. Of the two dozen books on trading that I have read to date the "Tools and Tactics of the Master Daytrader" is by far the best and most well rounded book on the subject (even with all the typos ). I use it as my trading bible and it has shortened my learning curve considerably, saving me thousands of dollars in mistakes that I was able to avoid because Oliver and Greg made them first and sounded the alarm. I hope to be able to come to one of their seminars some day. Until then. Keep up the great work. Thanks, mro.
Rating: Summary: A Valuable Book! Review: Just a note to thank you for your recommendation regarding "Tools and Tactics for the Master Day Trader". Of the 7 day trading books that I have read to date, it is by far the most valuable, and easy reading as well. I also purchased the Oliver Valez tape on swing trading which was valuable as well, although the charts etc. that were displayed were not readable. Even so, it was still excellent.
Rating: Summary: Was highly recommended. Review: I was advised by a friend that has read 15 other related books. He stated this was the first book that was not garbage on the subject of trading mentality. --John
Rating: Summary: Same Old Same Old Review: I have been trading for over 20 years and have read many of the trading books that have come out during that period. This book is a simple summary of basic technical concepts that have been around for some time, and has oddly enough conveyed old techniques as if they were new. The major well known trading firms such as Goldman Sachs & Merrill Lynch have spent millions unsucessfully so in trying to develop technical approaches that work consistently but with no success, which leads me to be very curious about a person in their early thirties who claims he has over twenty years of experience, and was evicted 27 times. If a trader wants to learn, its too bad that there is no true due dilligence filter for the public. Reader beware!
Rating: Summary: Opinion from a part-time position trader Review: I always take any trading advice with a grain of salt. This book is exceptional in its mental attitude toward trading. However, no one book can make you rich, it will only make you less poor. One of the straegies that I had success with the book was the 3-5 blocks decline/advance. Used on daily charts with a 2 month time frame netted me 3% in two days with WAG and RIG. Almost no one here said what works, what doesn't. The market is always changing, strategies that worked a week ago won't work tomorrow. I think most people that hated the book lost money because they applied the wrong strategy to the wrong stock. Don't think one book can do it all. Combine them with your experience, education and intuition when making trading decision and don't fight the [long-term] trend. The authors are right, in order to make money, you have to lose money (but not all at once for god's sake). I think one of the thing that the authors neglected to mention was that whicj strategies should short-term and which one should be intermediate term.
Rating: Summary: The best one by far from a 3 year trader... Review: I started trading 3 years ago and have been trading full time for 2 years. I have read most of the books out there on trading, over 20 in all. While I feel satisfied to walk away with a couple of lines from most books, Tools and Tactics of the Master Day Trader is by far and away the best. It should be considered the "bible" of trading books. Any experienced trader would learn from this book. For a beginner, it is a must. It encompasses everything, leaving no blanks. No other book does this. I see many other good reviews by people who appreciate this book. I truly believe anyone who rates this book poorly has other motives. The book covers everything from basics to advanced tecniques, and most importantly , it covers psycology and how to avoid the common mistakes. Believe me, it is accurate in every detail. This book has achieved what few can, it stands alone in its class. It is the reference from which all traders should base there tactics no matter what time frame they work in. Read lots of books, get lots of training, learn from your mistakes; but read this book first, last, and several times in beween.
Rating: Summary: Moving Right Along Review: The book is very interesting with regards to common usage of moving averages and candlestick chart patterns. I have studied many trading systems over the years beginning with the futures market. Whereas I totally respect the difficulty of publishing books, I am still waiting for a credible track record or some third party proof that the system really does work. There are no such representations in the book which makes it difficult for me to give the authors any serious consideration. It is also somewhat disturbing to find that the author was evicted so many times in a very short period of time. To me there is a clear lacking of basic truths as there is commonly found on Wall Street. I guess I will be moving right along to hopefully find authors that truly have credibility.
