I've been amazed by this way of thinking (Traditional methods of marketing are dead! It's time to build remarkable products instead) that I attended his inaugural Purple Cow seminar in NY. This is a must-have book for marketers and you'll be doing yourself a disservice by not purchasing it (and telling others about it)! He uses examples to help you create your own Purple Cow - a product that markets itself. In a new book, 99 Cows, a suplement to Purple Cow, he takes a closer look at 99 remarkable companies. It's moolicious!

Then I read Purple Cow and thought "I'm very VERY lucky." Mr. Godin outlines many ways in which a business, or even a product, can become remarkable and successful without spending millions on mass marketing. The author concentrates on niche areas, maximizing a marketing plan with significantly less funding that traditional marketing insists, and finding your Purple Cow. There is no magic formula for a purple cow but he presents avenues to look around at existing businesses/products/services and see where there is room for improvement. And sometimes the improvement comes in surprising ways. The book is an easy and exciting read. You'll never get bogged down in marketing terminology or be bored at what you are reading. The case studies also help explain each chapter. I finished the book and determined that if I move my business towards being a Purple Cow that my company can be seen as remarkable. Don't we all want that? Yes, I am excited about this book. I wish I had it years ago.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Purple Cow is truly remarkable! Review: I first learned of Purple Cow in an article featured in Fast Company (great magazine by the way). The article was an excerpt from the book and after reading it, I was hooked. I promptly ordered the free paperback version and it arrived in the highly sought after milk carton! (What an outstanding marketing plan to support the launch of a book about marketing) After reading the paperback, I couldn't wait for the hardcover to become available. This is an exceptional book for all of us in business--Seth Godin shows the value of building the marketing into the product not trying to market the product after it has already reached the market. Purple Cow contains some excellent case studies and practical advice that will get your creativity flowing. I will be buying multiple copies of Purple Cow to share with clients and colleagues because the world of marketing and business planning needs some inspiration!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Outstanding...in its field! Review: Having been a long-time fan of Seth's work, I looked forward to this new book and the buzz that was created around it. This book brings the unique perspective of Seth to the forefront of business-thinkers today. He presents a clear and simple, but most effective, method for attacking the challenge of business today. By taking the message of the new product or service to the key influencers in the market, these sneezers will generate the kind of impact that advertising alone cannot accomplish. A great book easily read in a night but its effect is much greater than most of the business books published lately.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: The Cow is a Catalyst Review: Purple Cow contains so many real-life stories of simple to incredible ideas and their results. Seth Godin's examples have solved the mystery as to why I like Target but hated K-Mart... or why some elevators fly and others take forever. Most importantly, his enthusiastic message has inspired me to get that MBA I've always wanted, test out my own purple cow ideas and eventually apply them to products I invent. If you want any product or business to succeed, I think you should beg, borrow and steal to get your hands on this quick and impactful read. (Okay, maybe not steal... this is Amazon after all!)

It gets right to the point and doesn't spend time on irrelevant topics. It is remarkably simple, to succeed you need to "remarkable" when compared to your competition. I am going to use the concepts in this book to help increase membership in the volunteer organizations with which I work. If you sell a product, provide a service or interact with any customer base you should read this book.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Am'moo'nition for any innovative marketing plan Review: Seth Godin's newest addition to his fold is an amazing exploration of how to market innovative ideas. A "Purple Cow" is something remarkable that people deem news worthy and are excited to talk about. It stands out in a sea of ordinary cows (moo!). I have been reading many books recently on Word of Mouth marketing and Buzz, and Godin's Purple Cow fits nicely into any marketing plan for innovative products and services. Godin is a fan of new ideas, he has a passion for them, something he defines as "Otaku" (Otaku is a Japanese word that defines something that falls between an obsession and a hobby). Previously he has written about Idea Viruses (a.k.a. memes, ideas that spread from person to person) and permission marketing. His new theme ties in nicely with the ideas from both of those books. In this book he summed up everything I had been reading about Word of Mouth and how to go about marketing a new innovation. I have been working on a new product and developing a business plan to start my next company. As soon as I read Godin's book I realized it crystallized everything that my product stood for. I took up his offer of purchasing 12 of his "Limited Edition" Purple Cow books that came in Purple Milk Cartons and I have been giving them away with my business plan, since it explains so succinctly what I am aiming for with my product. Other books that complement this one are: The Anatomy of Buzz - Emanuel Rosen, Unleashing the Idea Virus - Seth Godin, Creating Customer Evangelists - Bill McConnell, Jackie Huba and The Tipping Point - Malcolm Gladwell.
