Summary: Purple Cow is a cash cow of great information
Review: Purple Cow is a cash cow of great information:

This is a great book for anyone in sales, marketing, product design, or just about any business you can think of. This book lets you know some of the greatest marketing ideas that you or I wouldn't normally think of as well as some that you say "why didn't I think of that". Half inspirational and half educational Seth delivers a great book. Purple Cow should become today "How to win friends (or customers) and influence people (or employees)". I came accross this book in a long round about way and I am glad I did because it is my new work bible. Buy 1 , buy 10 and give them away if this doesn't get your creative juices flowing nothing ever will. Most people say "don't have a cow" I say have one!!

Summary: Not just for big business
Review: I have found this book to be very fascinating. Godin really captures the past, present and future of advertising. I highly recommend this book to anyone that wants to set themselves or their business or their product apart from the rest. Prior to reading this book I often wondered, how in the midst of a bad economy certain products and businesses continue to have success. In this book, Godin provides the reasons why success is possible, even when everyone else is failing. In short, by being remarkable.

Summary: A Truly Remarkable Book
Review: Seth Godin has hit the nail on the head. In order to succeed in today's economy with the super saturation of so many product categories, you truly have to be remarkable. Godin has a real insight into the world of marketing and anyone in this field should make this the next book on their reading list. From small business to large multinational corporations, anyone can benefit from his ideas and observations of the consumer population. He really was able to drive home the point that you need to make your product stand above the others in some unique and remarkable way in order to be a success since there are so many products available to consumers. He has shown me that mass marketing is not the route to inevitable success. I have learned so much from this book and I can not emphasize enough how great a book this is for anyone involved in the marketing field. Every college marketing student should own a copy.

Summary: A life-changing book
Review: This is a totally amazing book! I usually dislike books aimed at changing my way of doing things (I hated Who Moved My Cheese? - how insipid can you get?), but this was incredible. Seth Godin talks about how marketing is changing, and how remarkable marketing is no longer the goal; having a remarkable product is.
I am the owner of a very small landscaping business, and I picked this book up on a whim. I never expected it to change the way I look at myself, my company, and the world.
Since reading Purple Cow, I have been seeing these theories play out everywhere I look. Purple Cow has tons of strategies for getting exactly what I want out of my business and my life. I have been particularly interested in figuring out how to tailor my business to my ideal clients, which is one of the many pieces of good advice that Godin's book has.
A truly life-changing book.

Summary: Worth a look
Review: The "purple cow" of the title is Godin's way of describing his theories to fit in with the other "p's" of marketing--product, pricing, promotion, etc. Not so much a stretch as a contortion of language, it's nonetheless a memorable turn of phrase. This book argues that advertising is on the edge of major change, and manages to keep your attention along the way by dropping tidbits of information about marketing history.

Summary: Simple but powerful - much needed in a cluttered marketplace
Review: It is a very simple concept: if you are remarkable, you will stand out. But, what is "remarkable?" In a recent article on his Leadership Wired newsletter, John Maxwell's guest, Mark Sanborn, wrote a compelling article why "excellence" is NOT the proper pursuit - even it seems to become the default of most companies. Sanborn states, "The biggest problem with excellence is that it isn't distinctive. The killer marketplace strategy is to be distinctive--to go beyond excellent to offer something distinct and unique to your company."

What Purple Cow does so well is take this ONE simple concept and dissect it from a variety of angles. The book shows a multitude of ways to approach "remarkableness." It provides many examples. It also askes many open-ended questions that lead you to thinking beyond the confines of the covers of the book.

And if nothing else - the simple mental picture of the Purple Cow becomes easily becomes a constant reminder of one of the few things any business person should constantly focus on: "how can my company (or I) be/become/stay remarkable?"

I have already personally applied the concept to change the way I was approaching the marketing of a new product. The jury is still out (product is still being manufactured) but by all early indications the application of the Purple Cow concepts will make a drastic difference. This quick, easy, thought-provoking read is well worth your weekend!

Summary: Some good ideas
Review: Purple Cow is a book about transforming your business by being remarkable. Well, I don't own a business--I don't even have a job. I'm a stay at home mom, but I still found the ideas in this book useful. The idea that you need to be remarkable or be invisible can apply to every day life. It works outside of the business world. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially since it's a really quick read.

Summary: Milk this Cow! (And make a purple shake)
Review: This little, wonderfully designed book can change the way you look at the world, whether you are in marketing or not. It is about transforming your business by being remarkable, using quick case studies that really drive home the point. The result is that you start seeing Purple Cows, and try to be a Purple Cow and that is what makes the book truly remarkable. Its is also fun and amusing to read for those who don't enjoy dry marketing "How To" books.
