Summary: Applications go beyond business.
Review: Purple Cow is truely a remarkable book, as it should be because being remarkable is its focus. Although it is targeted mainly at businesses and mainstream marketers, its ideas and principles go far beyond. This book is phenominal. I have used some the ideas in promoting theatre productions for my college and in the occasional church evangelism project. Personal life can also be effected by reading this book. Who doesn't like to be around a truely remarkable person? I reccomend this book to anyone who needs a jumpstart in their career and especially to those who are trying to promote ANYTHING from fundraisers to mainstream marketing

Summary: Going purple ...
Review: I've been waiting to get a hold of this book for a few months now, ever since Seth Godin announced it in his blog. What to say? If you liked his previous work, you're sure to love this as well. If you haven't read any of Seth's books before, start with this one. It's simply brilliant.

The idea of Purple Cows is in itself astonishing. After reading this book you'll start thinking how you too can turn your business in to something remarkable. You'll start looking at everything as a valuable source of ideas you can apply to your business and make ti stand out from the crowd. You might make it and you might not. Will I? I'll have to wait and see that for myself ...

Summary: Classic Godin...you'll enjoy it
Review: Seth starts the book by saying that the opposite of 'remarkable' is 'very good'. Seth's point of the book is simple and clear, and he makes it so with stories and examples, rather than Harvardese.

What the book doesn't do is provide a definative road-map of creating a Purple Cow. But, I think that is up to the reader...if Purple Cows were easy and formulatic, they would be as common as brown cows. What you do get is clear guidelines of the resources needed and how to evaluate if your idea/concept is going to work as a Purple Cow.

The Purple Cow will become your yardstick to measure any new product or marketing program. Even if you don't get a true Cow, you will find yourself pushing to improve whatever you do. Moo!

Summary: Not Your Boring Marketing Book
Review: The book was not your typical business/marketing book. The short case study format of it makes it an easy read, yet very powerful and immediately applicable to the reader. As I read the book, I found myself quickly taking the ideas and applying them to my own situations. The author makes it easy to use the book as a reference highlighting the key takeaway points. I have and will continue to use the concepts, examples and takeaways from the book in my business and personal life.

Summary: Read it, use it, read it again
Review: Purple Cow is a book you can sit down, read, get up and start putting the ideas into action. We all tend to follow the status quo, see what our competition is doing, eek out our part of the market. Purple Cow reminds us that this isn't how we make it- we need to be remarkable, and not just once but on an ongoing basis. If you believe in this, and your ability to be remarkable you'll never be bored with your work again, and you will find success.

This is a book you will want to share- but not your copy!

Summary: Ask yourself, how can you miss the purple cow?
Review: How can you pass reading a business-genre book about purple cows - the latest "p" in the marketing buzz? The point is that you can't. Just like how, if you were standing in a field of cows, the purple one would stand out while the rest were boring. The real secret though, according to Godin, is that sometimes it takes as little as changing a color or rotating the title of a book 90-degrees to have a distinct product that consumers want to find out about and purchase: what Godin calls a purple cow. Godin shows us through example how we can change our businesses to be a purple cow and makes a compelling case for doing so. He suggests that any business who doesn't re-invest in cow-creation will be doomed to long-term failure (even if it creates a short-term success)

The book is exceptionally well written, jammed-packed with examples and mini-case-studies and will provide you with an extensive "also read" list when done. But more importantly, the fact that we are interested in the purple-cow concept really indicates that it works!

Summary: Fantastic Book. Great for small and large companies
Review: Seth has put together one heck of a book with Purple Cow. The book really hit home for me as an entrepreneur. This is a must read for anyone who wants to learn how to market a product or build a company into something great. This is well worth the 14 dollars.

Summary: Quite simply you need this book - No question!!
Review: This is without a doubt simply the most awesome book I have ever read on the subject of marketing.

Seth truly gets it and if you buy only one book this year to improve your business this is the one - the book is provoking, challenging and most importantly it will rock your world in the best way be cause if you read and get the message your company, business, job or life will change and change forever.

If you really want to connect with Seth read all his other books and make sure that you get the new ebook that came out on the same day as this book its called 99 Cows and it goes further with the Purple Cow strategy by giving you examples all with links.

But this book is the one and only marketing book the key to what Seth is saying is that business has to be remarkable if it is to cut through the static and make itself heard.

I have one other thing to say BUY THIS BOOK! Then tell everyone you know to get a copy too as the good news always spreads the fastest.

Summary: Purple Cowing...a healthy [financial] activity
Review: The "Purple Cow: Transform Your Business by Being Remarkable" by Seth Godin is an excellent road map in making ANY size or kind of business remarkable! This even includes highly regulated businesses such as the pharmaceutical industry. Like everything else, "Purple Cowing" is an activity that the more you do the better you get...you start as an amateur, then go to the semi-pros, then to the pros.
As with a good road map, Seth Godin's "Purple Cow" describes many ideas that transformed businesses, and it is up to you if you want to stop there for a short visit, overnight, or for an extended stay. The book is also full of strategies that should act as a primer for economic dominance. For example, Seth explains why you REALLY need to know if your advertising campaign is working [or going to work], and as important, how do you measure it. Want another job, Purple Cow shows that too. "Purple Cowing" when used correctly even frees up more of your time.
The book is in tune with other books that talk about 'Quadrants of Risk' and 'Consolidated Risk Profile' [related to products or services] that help an organization's financial health early in the process. As with any of what Seth Godin has written in the past, the "Purple Cow" is clearly written...and that is what is all about--effective communication. No matter what business you are in, how can you evaluate innovative processes if you have not done it yourself? "Purple Cow" yourself, you will not regret it in the morning [or in the next quarter].

Summary: Purple Cow: Interesting and Insightful
Review: The Purple Cow, by Seth Godin, looks at the connection between product differentiability and sales success. The tagline reads "Transform your business by being remarkable," and that pretty much describes Godin's thesis. Godin, who writes for Fast Company magazine, has also written books about word-of-mouth marketing.

This book is crisp and focused. The author wastes none of our time: he gets right to the point and stays there, bringing home his argument in under 150 pages that read very quickly. You should be able to finish this book in one to two hours. Godin tells us that traditional media marketing (TV and print advertising) just doesn't work anymore because consumers are numb to those media. Who they do listen to, he explains, are trusted friends who tell them about product successes they've experienced. Think about it: I'm sure you've at least explored a product based on a personal recommendation, or had a friend explore one based on yours. Godin argues that in order to capitalize on this marketing path, products must distinguish themselves enough from their competition that they induce us ("consumers") to talk about them compellingly.

Although Godin's thesis may seem self-evident, he does do a good job of presenting a concise and compelling case. He effectively uses reasoning, experience and examples to bring home his points with an impressive economy of words.

This book won't change your life. But it will show you a new perspective from which to look at marketing and product development. If you are in one of those fields, I think this book will appeal to you. If you're in another field, you might find it interesting anyway. Godin asks insightful questions that are aimed at guiding the reader to evaluate his own situation in light of Godin's premise; accordingly, this might be a good book to buy for your team at work, or upon which to base a one-day brainstorming retreat. Again, Purple Cow won't rewrite your outlook on life. But it's definitely worth the price and time investment to read. And that, combined with its brevity and freshness, gets it four stars from me.
