Summary: More depth than other books
Review: This book has a LOT more depth than the other similiar books. There is more to candlesticks (or any price movement analysis) than just a bunch of patterns, names, formations ... the other books are far too brief. I cannot emphasize this enough.

It is very readable and clear, the examples are excellent, but most valuable are the DETAILED insights behind all the patterns, that other candlestick books simply do not have!

This is not just the best ~Candlestick~ book, but it is also a good TA book that explains how to combine candlesticks with western indicators like RSI, STOC.,MACD and others. A valuable extra tool for active traders to use in addition to traditional western indicators. This is one book besides elder`s Trading for a living that i keep close by and refer to again and again.

Summary: Good introduction to Japanese candlestick charting
Review: Very good introduction to the candlestick charting technique commonly used in Asian. The concepts are digested information from the author allowing Western readers to be able to understand the basics in a Westerner point of view.
The book start with the difference between candlestick charting and the classic bar charting. Then proceed to explain various candlestick patterns in detail. One unique feature of this book comes in the second half of the book when technical indicators and other technical analysis techniques are blended together with candlestick analysis. That gives a framwork for beginners to understand the importance of multiple confirmation in technical signals.
The only drawback of this book is that the explanation of the candlesticks are really distilled information based on the author's personal usage experience. Thus if you find this book expanded your mind in technical analysis using candlesticks, then you should look for books written by various Japanese technical analyst on the subject as they can provide more insightful usage of candlesticks.
In short, this book is the only introductory text covering candlestick chart at the time it was written and it does a good job at guiding its readers to learn the basics of this charting style.

Summary: Informative as well as entertaining
Review: If you have this one, you won't need any others. The book is a veritable encyclopedia of candlesticks. Where a lot of these technical tomes are great cures for insomnia, Mr. Nison peppers the book with interesting antecdotes of where the formation names came from; lots of ancient stories from Old Japan. But the technical explanations are excellent. Additionally there is a glossary of all terms with corresponding chart patterns in the back of the book. Seriously, if you own this book, you probably won't need any others on candlesticks. Steve is truly the authority.
