Summary: Clarification about the edition
Review: This is the 10th edition, published in 2001. Not quite as 'out-of-date' as suggested by the previous reviewer. It is, however, dificult to keep these texts current.

Summary: The complete pharmacology reference.
Review: This is the complete source for me as a pharmacy student. From obscure information to a complete overview on a subject, Goodman and Gilman is the "Bible of Pharmacology."

Summary: A cure for insomnia
Review: While I have repeatedly been told this book is THE "gold standard" of Pharmacology texts, I was very disappointed to buy what has become a paperweight. Yes, the book has more detail and clinical study information than you could ever use, but the text is often dry, to say the least. I felt like I couldn't see the forest for the trees because of the amount of detail. Goodman and Gilman does have its place as one of the most comprehensive sources of information, but I would hardly recommend it as the mainstay pharmacology text. For everyday usage, I would recommend any of the texts by Katzung as both a cheaper alternative and one that is far easier to read and understand.

Summary: Essential for the Pharmacology Part of the Boards!
Review: ~ ~
This pharmacology book is solely responsible for my honors grades in pharmacology and on the national boards.

All topics are covered comprehensively, with far greater clinical application than most pharmacology texts.

The chapter organization makes sense, and it is well indexed. This was one of the few med school books I kept and used for years after leaving clinical medicine to go into research.

I used the book for researching medications for family and myself - information on side effects and interactions was very good.

There are almost no illustrations, and few charts, so it's not easy reading, but it is definitely worthwhile.
