Rating: Summary: Helpful..I could not survive Bio AP without it! Review: The fourth edition in a long range of helpful texts to the study of Biology, Campbell's Biology presents itself as a useful and effective means to grasp higher level study of biology. I, speaking as a high school senior, would have been at a great disadvantage if I had not had the abiltiy to use this book in my further pursuit of knowledge. The interactive CD is one of the most helpful compliments of this textbook as it allows the reader to prepare for tests and gain deeper understanding of a subject through visual interactive diagrams.
Rating: Summary: Perfect for AP Biology Review: We also used this text for Biology from grade 10 through to grade 12 AP, and it's definately the best.
Rating: Summary: This book is so easy to understand. Review: It seems to be the easiest Biology book I've ever read in high school, yet it contains the more materials than any other book I've read.
Rating: Summary: This is the greatest textbook that I have ever seen! Review: I have used dozens of textbooks in life, and this is without the best. Everyone that I have ever talked to about this book loves it. Cambell weds clear text with good diagrams to effictively explain difficult concepts. Cambell's use of key themes to unite what appears to unrelated data provides a strong conceptual backbone. This book is without doubt the premier biology survey course.
Rating: Summary: Big and Beautiful Review: Currently using this book in first year biology course. It leaves no stone unturned, covering a broad base of biological concepts. This book is suitable for majors and non-majors alike. Each unit opens with an interview with a key scientist, offering insight on the field and careers of biology. Each chapter ends with suggested titles for advanced reading and discussion, self-quizzes, critical thinking exercises and summaries of key concepts of the chapter. The included CD-ROM offers animated sequences of biological processes that help reinforce the material in the book, and I find the quizzes and test banks very useful. I highly recommend this book!
Rating: Summary: Excellent 1-year survey text Review: Neil Campbell's Biology is the best biology survey text I have ever read. It prepared me emensely for the A.P. Biology test and I would recommend it to anyone else taking the A.P. Biology test.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I used an older edition of this book for an AP biology class in high school. I have used numerous other sources during my studies as a biology major in college, and this is by far the best comprehensive review of basic biology that I have ever found.
Rating: Summary: The BEST there is! Review: I've made extensive use of this book during a year-long survey of introductory biology. Well balanced and readable, the text is authoritative in all relevant arenas -- from molecular biology to evolutionary biology/ecology. HIGHLY recommended.
Rating: Summary: Great bio text book Review: We used Campbell's Biology in our AP Bio Class in Highschool. It has some simpler explanations as well as better graphics/cartoons than what I use now (in intro level bio at college) which is Purves & Orions "Life: The Science of Biology". This is definitely my book of choice.
Rating: Summary: Recommended Review: I read this book for a biology class. I found it to be very useful and informative. However, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone who has less than a college level reading ability, because it is very wordy and contains a lot of technical terms. Other than that, it is a good book, and is
useful as an introduction and overview of biology.
