Rating: Summary: too dense as a text Review: I used this book in my intro to biology class, and the information was so dense that it read as more of an encylopedia than a text book. It was impossible to remember all of the minute details included in the chapters, and the main concepts were so hidden behind all the other information that it was difficult to pick them out.
Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This is the best textbook I've ever seen. I'm not even a biology student and I love it. Although it is fairly basic, it is rigourous enough that several courses may be taught from it alone. I await the rumoured 5th edition with baited breath...
Rating: Summary: Great for AP Bioloogy Review: As a high school student this book is no easy read and it is far from the most exciting thing I've read, but it provided me with such as wealth of knowledge that I highly recommend this book. It prepared me well for the AP exam.
Rating: Summary: nice pictures Review: I used this book in my introductory biology courses at UC Berkeley. It seemed to me to have a lof of information, well presented, and nice pictures. Of course it was the only option we had. It didn't cost so much when I used it.
Rating: Summary: 5th edition Review: I am a high school biology teacher. I used the 2nd edition in college and now use this, the 5th edition, as a resource. This is a truly great book. The accompanying CD is also very good and worked without problems on a windows machine.
Rating: Summary: Innovative, exciting and fully explained!!!!! Review: Campbell's 4th edition Biology is a book that broadens knowledge of biology with illustrations that helps us understand biology. It also underlines key concepts throughout the book, recommended to anyone.
Rating: Summary: A very good learning utility for college biology students! Review: I am a Pre-Med Biology student and I have had the chance to use this book for my previous semester. It is a wonderful learning utlity and provides detailed information. The Interactive CD-Rom which contains self-quizzes is excellent!
Rating: Summary: Great book for AP Biology Review: I read this book for AP Biology. It is very informative and explains the concepts well and in detail.
Rating: Summary: 1996 4th edition falsely advertised as 1998 publication. Review: Clear, well written. Students find it understandable. Slightly behind the new-information curve when compared to Arms & Camp.
Rating: Summary: A Solid Investment. Review: Currently a graduate student in toxicology, I used this text in my undergraduate General Biology for Majors course at Texas Tech. I enjoyed it then, and I continue to find it quite useful in referring back to those parts of biology that sometimes fall to the wayside with the inevitable specialization in today's biology. Most importantly, Dr Campbell presents all biology around the necessary framework of evolutionary fact and theory, for a consistent conceptual basis. My comments are with the benefit of having perused a number of other general biology texts.
