Summary: A great learning resource for HRM!
Review: Mathis and Jackson do a good job of covering the important points of HR Management. The book was well organized and easy to follow. The figures and charts are very useful and aide in understanding the subject matter. The chapter objectives listed in the beginning of the chapter and the chapter summaries at the end are also very helpful. I would recomend this text for use in other HRM classes.

Summary: Human Resource Management
Review: Overall, this book does an adequate job describing Human Resource Management. The book can suit anyone from someone who knows very little about HRM to someone who is an expert with it. The layout of the book was fairly simple and easy to understand. It incorporated the new advancements in technology thoroughly in each chapter. The abundant amount of graphs and diagrams were very helpful in demonstrating the points being discussed. The questions at the beginning of each chapter do a great job of outlining what will be covered in each section. In addition, the summary at the end of each chapter is a perfect way to review the main points. The book is not really biased in any way. It presents the advantages and disadvantages of every theroy and idea connected with HRM. There are a few small problems. In some ways this textbook can seem like an information overload. A massive amount of material is covered in each chapter. Also, while it is a great informational tool, it did not do much to enhance my excitement for HRM. Even with these few negative perceptions I would still recommend this book to students interested in HRM.

Summary: HRM Book Review
Review: Personally, I felt that this was an excellent introductary textbook for HRM. It was in a logical order, and did a fine job covering all of the important aspects of Human Resource Management. I especially liked the fact that along with the written material, there were figures, tables, and graphs to further reiterate the point that was being made. This helps people who need to 'see' the information as well as read it. Furthermore, I really liked HR transitions in the begining of the chapters. They provided a real-world overview of what would be discussed in the chapters. These, along with the HR Perspectives, really gave the reader an idea of how the concepts talked about in the book were used and dealt with in the real world. The only thing that I really didn't like about the book, was that because of the fact that there is so much to be covered in an introductary course, some of the concepts did not seem to be explained as well as they could have been. As stated before though, overall this was a great book. I highly recomend it's use for any inrodutary HRM course.

Summary: Human Resource Management - Book Review
Review: The HRM book that we used for class is easy to follow and to understand. The text was written to make it easy for the reader to understand and follow along, getting a good foundation to the principles and functions of HRM. It gave a clear basis on the job functions, and the figures and tables were clear, concise, and detrimental to the understanding of the material. Without the figures, it would have been hard to grasp the entire concept of the chapter. The order of the chapters seemed to flow in an organized fashion, grouping the similiar chapters together in units, although this being my first HRM course, I find it hard to rate the order of importance of the chapters. Overall I would recommend this book to other HRM professors. I thought that the book gave a lot of useful information and with the figures and tables the information was easy to understand and to apply to the real processes of HRM. With the examples and illustrations, this book would be very useful to all those taking a Human Resource Management course.

Summary: Human Resource Management Review
Review: The Human Resource Management text was very helpful in putting visual statistics to what we were learning at the time. The figures in the text were both relevant and helpful. Although the text was very repititive, it helped me to learn the material. The text provided good examples of each topic discussed and addressed both sides of any controversial issues that were reviewed. It also was easy to understand and follow.

Summary: HRM - review by a student
Review: The textbook is wonderful for individuals interested in learning about human resource management. Each chapter is carefully constructed with the topics hightlighted. The important vocabulary words are located in the outside margins with their appropriate definitions, which is helpful. The book also consists of numerous relevent "figures" or graphs that aid in demonstrating important ideas. I cannot comment on the order of the chapters or the order of the material and how it fits together, simply because I do not know enough about HRM to determine an appropriate order. However, the text was well organized and did a great job providing information about HRM discipline. It gave up-to-date examples and I could always understand the chapters, compared to some texts that are difficult to read and comprehend. In addition, there was an employment guide computer disc located on the book cover. I was not required to use the CD for class purposes, therefore I do not know if it is beneficial or not. But it is an additional tool for learning about human resource management. Overall, the book was excellent and I have no complaints.

Summary: Human Resource Management
Review: This book had some strong points and some weak points. Some of the things that I enjoyed about this book were the chapter summaries. I think that the author did a great job summarizing the main points at the end, in a way that was easy to understand. It helped me a lot to read the summaries, and then read the chapter. To review, I reread the chapter summaries and was able to learn and retain the information. I also think that the definitions were well written and to the point. I liked the way the author included a list of definitions at the end of the chapter along with the page on which they appeared. The diagrams helped a lot to relay the information the author was trying to teach. Finally, at the end of the book, the author included some wonderful appendixes. I especially liked appendix B and D. Appendix B talks about some of the most important organizations in HR. This is very helpful to look at. Appendix D deals with starting a career. This is most helpful for me because I am still a student. It talks about everything from searching for jobs and compiling a resume, to how to interview and select job offers. This is information that college students really need, but that is often times, overlooked.

Some of the parts that could be improved are the importance of technology on human resources. I think that it looked a lot at how human resources has been in the past, and how it is today, but not enough about what it will be like in the future.

However, overall, I think this was a good book, especially for an introductory level human resource course. I would recommend it!
