Rating: 5 stars
Summary: the first book you should own on technical analysis
Review: dow theory, head and shoulders, candlesticks, double top, cup and handle, point and figure, trendlines... this book covers it all. it's rather large, but after the first few chapters they're all self-contained, so each chapter can be read independently.

buy this book first, then move on to others as you desire.

the bible of technical analysis.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Let the computer do the work
Review: Excellent book. Recently Johm Murphy computerized chapters five and six [Reversal pattern] as an add on for MetaStock7. However it could be better with trendlines included like investtech.com That was my suggestion.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Once Over Lightly
Review: He lays it all out, but which way to go? Once over lightly on some oscillators devoting only part of a page to others. Still others are totally absent. Why would an investor in equities relate to the commodity market? Why would a futures/options trader relate to the equity market? The book's material seems rather pedantic to this trader who is trying to make a buck trading and wishes to learn the best methods possible using technical analysis without undue strain and obfuscation.

My subjective opinion is that your money may be better spent elsewhere. The book is thick; the content is disappointing.

Summary: Don't Usually Do Recommendations but........
Review: I am disappointed to see as few good words about this book as I see. First, the book is well laid, and the examples are extremely easy to understand. If there is something you want to lookup or look at first, it is easy to find as the book has a great index and table of contents. For every indicator/technique he describes, he goes gives enough detail and examples that it is completely clear; however, it is not as dull, dry, and overdone as many TA books. If you want to understand the principles behind almost any currently used technical analysis technique, then this book is a must read.

Summary: Advise
Review: I dont't want to write the same review (good for beginner.., some chapters are good and some not.. bla, bla, bla).
Trading IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY. If you really want to do money with that you have to be "ON THE FLOOR". You can read hundreds of
books but if you are not THERE you'll just put more liquidity to the market and for the REAL traders. So think a little before putting that 10k or 100k $ in trading (better you spend that money for a journey in Micronesia!!).

Bye.

P.S. Don't look at the number of stars (I didn't want to put no star but Amazon didn't let me).

Summary: John Murphy does it again!
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed his previous book, however, I learn much more from this, as it uses much more current technical examples and also, this time, it is not limited to the futures markets, but also includes stock market examples.

If you are looking for what is probably the best book in modern technical analysis - this is it!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Highly Recommended for all levels
Review: If there is a single book on Technical Analysis that I would recommend to anyone, this is it! Mr. Murphy covers quite a large spectrum of Technical Analysis and yet remains easy to understand for the beginners and intermediates alike. The methods are applicable across a wide range of financial instruments. Also, chart examples include market data that is recent and modern enough to reflect the faster online trading markets. You can't go wrong adding this great book to your collection.

Summary: Very technical...
Review: If you believe in TA (Technical Analysis) and wish to study it in detail then this is the book to read. You will refer back to it time and again. Contrary to those who bash TA, it really does work (I believe people bash it because they don't understand it, and that which they don't understand.... they FEAR!).

If insiders, funds, analysts, or pro-traders are trying to get in or out of a stock, their trading agenda has an affect on the volume, price, open and close. These trades expose patterns which are logged and computed in different ways by the various indicators. This in turn affects the direction and signals given by those indicators. In other words you are analyzing the past to gain a perspective on the future.

TA used with fundamental knowledge of a company or industry can lead to better timed and more profitable trades. There is a lot to learn and the learning never stops. Indicators respond differently in rising markets than they do in falling markets or sideways volatile markets.

Nothing is ever guaranteed, but with this book you can learn what the charts are saying and that may help you to become a more profitable trader/investor.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A very informative book
Review: If you trade stocks and you have problems in understanding various charting methods and financial terminologies, this is the book for you.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Technically speaking, one should buy this book
Review: Investing isn't easy. Investing profitably is even harder. As a result, investors are always looking for that 'angle', that 'edge' that will help them realize more consistent profits.

In the past 2 decades, many on Wall Street have come to believe that technical analysis of stock charts is one of those tools. Having worked in the financial services markets since 1987, I do believe that technical analysis can be a helpful tool. And if you are looking for a definitive source of TA, then look no further.

Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets by John Murphy covers all the basic aspects of TA: philosophy, chart construction, fundamental vs. technical analysis, trends, major technical pattern recognition, moving averages, oscillators, times cycles, computer trading systems and much more. He also covers different methods of charting, including bar, point and figure and candlestick (be aware that most of the analysis techniques he presents apply to bar charting, not PnF or candlestick).

What I like most about the book is that it written clearly, simply and logically. It uses many graphical examples that SHOWS the reader what to look for. It does not rage on about the merits of TA (which many investors feel is complete hooey) but how to apply basic (and sophisticated) TA techniques. I use TA frequently in my business and find that it helps me manage my client's portfolios more effectively, especially when it comes to SELLING a position, whether to lock-in gains or limit losses.

If you are a TA convert, or if you have an interest in learning more about it, this book is a useful guide and should be purchased. Today, it remains one of the few investment reference books that I keep in my office.
