Summary: Good reading if you are building a new team
Review: This is an easy to read book with all the basic stuff about how to motivate employees. This is not the only book you need, but it is easy to follow and you can use it as a gift to your team if you are facing hard times at work due to external factors creating ambiguity and stress in your team.
A reflection on how to go back to basics when creating a highly energized working environment, and a nice picture of Seattle icon, the Pike Market.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Interesting though not very innovative
Review: The book presents some plain facts about how to boost morale in an organization. It's true that it helps you clarify the basics of people handling, but don't expect to find an in-depth analysis or innovative research on the subject.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Powerful message for creating organisational change
Review: A wonderful quick read with the message wrapped up in an easily digested and captivating metaphor of a fish market. Many organisations can relate to the "toxic waste dump" portrayed in this story. How to make choices to change the way you think about work and the way people relate to each other is higly accessible. If you're currently unhappy about your workplace and would like to be an agent for change, this is a great book for you.

Summary: Move over "cheese" it is time for Fish ...
Review: An interesting effective yet light read on how to transform negative associates into highly productive associates. A must read for all managers. Positive results from proven techniques.

If you thought "Who Moved My Cheese" was good, Fish is even better!

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: You will read it in one run (in less than a day)
Review: If you are working in a boring nonstimulating environment or heading an unmotivated team, this book is made for you!

The author describes a step-by-step approach to give every team member a new stimulating perspective. Start now. Tell them the story about Fish!

Summary: ugh
Review: I worked for a company who force fed us this philosophy...book, tape, and all. The simple and cornball philosophy gearing this book is ridiculous. The principles, as ideal as they are, are elementary and the story is contrived. What's sad is that companies actually think that throwing fish around is something that should be done (the company I worked for had a fish throw...an actual afternoon dedicated to throwing dead fish at each other). As for its effectiveness, I was burned out on the philosophy after two days of training and I voluntarily left the company 2 months after being hired. The video portion of this philosphy isn't better... ... .

Summary: Same advice different book.
Review: The book Fish is comparing a fun play-full fish market, Pike Place Fish Market, to a boring and un-motivated customer service department of a bank, called The Toxic Waste.

The nuggets of the book are:
1. Choose your attitude - When doing any job chose your attitude: boring vs. fun; can't do vs. can do.
2. Make their day - Make the day of the people around you; co-workers, clients, etc.
3. Play - Have fun while you work.
4. Be Present - be fully present at your job/life.

I found the benefit of the book came towards the end when the department within the bank started to use the advice above in a working environment. It was interesting to see that the advice can be use individually as well as within a group environment. The book is an easy read and fast (1 hour) read. I would recommend the book to readers who are looking for a quick way to get themselves and /or their surroundings into a more motivated mood.
I gave the book three stars because the advice is generic which can be found in other motivational books.

Have fun reading!

Summary: Get a whiff of this--
Review: Although Fish! is a light-hearted read, the authors provide no scientific evidence that the principles discussed will lead to any major changes; however, that is not to imply that the four principles are not effective. The authors do little to provide any real-world solutions to companies where a "Play Team" and "Sand Box" would probably be whimsically discarded for lack of credibility. Additionally, the main character's role is poorly developed and reads more like a cancelled soap-opera than a practical solution for overwhelmed managers. A tremendously easy-to-read book cleverly celebrating employee morale at work, this story reads like its title smells-FISH!

Summary: What has a FISH got to do with it??
Review: With retail sales sluggish at best I needed something to jump start my staff. After nine years in retail I was running out of ideas and had gotten into a rut on motivating my employees. My mentor mentioned a book about a fish to me and I casually took the information and ordered the book. WOW! I read it and then bought a copy for each of my employees to read. What a great concept. Choose your Attitude, Be present, Make Their Day and Play! These are the four pillars of the fish philosophy. And boy has it ignited my staff! I could quote you numbers (my sales have been up 12% in bad retail times since using the Fish philosophy) but more importantly my staff is happy to be at work and excited to work with customers. This is a book for any type of business or organization that needs a jump-start.

I suggest you buy more then one copy because this is a book you will be passing around!

Summary: Good Stuff!!!
Review: ...easy to read. What you learn here is an attitude, a way to approach our work. If we think, feel and act positively at work (where we spend at LEAST 40 hrs a week), we would reduce our stress levels and enjoy life a little more.

I think that this book should be given to any new employee (at ALL levels and especially to BOSSES!) on their first day of work. Who knows, it might actually make work....bearable!

Buy it.
