Rating: Summary: good reinforcement of management principles Review: There was nothing really ground breaking or revolutionary in Execution. Bossidy and Charan described numerous commons sense principles to execution incorporating supporting case studies and examples. I would recommend this as a primer to those new to managment studies or to managers and business owners who want a refresher in key elements to management execution.

Rating: Summary: terrible Review: if you lack total common sense about 1. Leading teams 2. Why it's important to understand the low-level details about how your teams are performing their tasks 3. Defining near, mid, and long-term plans for your product then you will learn a lot from this book. this is just management 101. i was expecting to learn some fairly esoteric methods for execution but for all intents and purposes learned nothing. take one of your direct reports to lunch and talk business....you'll get more out of that lunch than you did spending $20 bucks on this book and reading it
Rating: Summary: Taking it a bit too far Review: According to this book, execution is the missing link between aspirations and results. The book also makes the claim that "the biggest obstacle to success is the absence of execution". Nowadays the business world is more cut-throat than ever, and discipline becomes more and more important in issues of organisational efficiency. However, I don't believe that businesses can afford to take matters into their own hands to the extent recommended in this book. It may be true that without execution, breakthrough thinking on managing change breaks down, and it also may be true that a certain amount of discipline is necessary for getting things done, but surely condoning and encouraging execution itself is taking things a bit far. Couldn't these corporate bigshots satisfy themselves with a bit of corporal punishment and leave it at that?

Rating: Summary: Simple Wisdom But Profound Review: The book that Messrs. Bossidy and Charan have co-authored is a unique blend of practical advice and real business experiences drawn from several industries. It is especially powerful because it is superbly structured, easy to read, and free of jargon. There are many important messages in the book, almost one on every page. The key message is that corporate management has three principal goals: picking other leaders, setting strategic direction, and conducting operations. I believe that companies and organizations can use many of the ideas in this book to re-shape their thinking and to help change their corporate cultures and processes. In my years in corporate management, I came to recognize that the most important leadership challenge is that of identifying, developing, and selecting the future leadership team for a company. Picking great leaders can be a real challenge for any company and for any leader. I encourage all leaders to read this important book and to use it as a catalyst for change. There is much to be learned from this book and much to be reflected upon. Simple but profound.
Rating: Summary: Good book on executing business objectives Review: Good overall business book covering company culture and focus. I found this book very interesting and it identified specific principles to embrace and steps to take to execute business plans in an organization. Very usefull guidelines and tips on how to change your company's culture. Provides solid guiding principles for how to lead your employees -- relevant for all leaders from CEO to line manager. Details a leader's 7 essential behaviors which are crucial to success at executing. Recommend The Myth of Excellence by Fred Crawford & Ryan Mathews as a companion book to this one.
Rating: Summary: lot of fluff , more like a long winded article Review: Rather than a concise guide you'll plod through ruminations and Q&A's between the two authors. Great title but falls far short of what it promises. It reads more like an interview in Forbes. You could probably summarize the books in 10 pages at most.
Rating: Summary: execution- the competitive advantage Review: The author points out a common mistake that most people made in the organization: the blind spot of execution. The idea is simple: You can create world-class mission statement, world-class strategy, but if you have a low-class execution strategy, you would ended up low-class. All through my working years, I have really seen a lot of companies provide lip-service for their strategy, without putting much thoughts into how the strategies would be implemented. This book is like a wakeup call for those CEOs who think they are too high up to do the dirty job of implementation. It is time to roll-up your sleeves and get your feet dirty, Mr.CEO.
