Summary: informative and well written
Review: I want to thank the authors of this book. I found it when I was stumbling through medication and diet conflicts/allergies for treatment of insulin-resistance diabetes which caused me many difficulties, and it gave me a clue to the source of a number of complications I was experiencing. This was exactly what I was looking for and it gave me the knowledge I was misssing from all the 'medical' education seminars I attended.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Excellent medical resource
Review: If you are to own one basic medical reference book, this is it.
Contains the basics of medical ills/diseases, as well as the latest medical research for both standard therapies and alternative ones. I refer to it frequently. I just wish more doctors used it as a reference.

Summary: A must have for people who care about their health!
Review: It is one of the best books I have ever invested in. It has so many things to learn and apply to your everyday life. It helps me to struggle MYSELF with problems that dozens of doctors gave up on. Thank you, authors!!!

Summary: ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL guide to natural healing
Review: Micheal Murray and Pizzorno are some of the most prolific natural medicine authors out. They are also founding fathers of the Bastyr College of Naturopathic Medicine; a very well respected institution. I am a medical student myself and found this book to be just as in depth (and much more useful) as many of my biochemistry/nutrition class notes! The authors give SPECIFIC (and refreshingly moderate) recommendations for a variety of illnesses, and back up their recomendations with very extensive references from various journals. They also describe the etiology of the illness very well, telling the reader WHY they have the problem they do...very few books for laypeople of any type do this. I cannot give this book high enough praise. It has certainly changed the way I will treat my own patients.

Summary: Why so few stars for such a great book?
Review: No, I do not think this book deserves 5 stars, although it is the best book in this area. So, why only 3 stars? - because of the missed potential. I think I have read every word in every one of Dr. Murray's books. With minor changes and adaptations, this encyclopedia brings together the texts of 3 of his major books: the one on herbs, the one on nutritional supp., and the previous encyclopedia. What's wrong in that? - the fact that we got a very heavy book of over 900 pages with not much more new info. I was surprised to find out that none of the other reviewers mentioned the fact that this book still does not have a chapter on Cancer!! My feeling is that Drs. Murray & Pizzorno did not forget the second leading ailment of this era - at this moment, they are probably finalizing their next book, this time a whole book on cancer. As a professor of Medicine and a cancer researcher I feel that an encyclopedia of natural medicine that has not even one chapter on cancer prevention and natural medication is a "bug 2000" bearing item. Another aspect - this days, such an encyclopedia would be better "printed" on a CD, with an advanced search engine, rather then on paper. One last word, the book suffers from some faults and "deletions" of very important info, but unfortunately there is no way one can contact Drs. Murray or Pizzorno and discuss these faults directly with them. No e-mail address, nor fax number is provided. I would recommend them to contact me before they issue the 3rd edition of this encyclopedia. So, should you buy this book? - the answer is definitely yes. Just as I said: this is the best book available, though not the perfect one these two authors could write...

Summary: EXCELLENT
Review: One of the most comprehensive encyclopedias on Natural Medicine.
Covers a vast majority of ailments, providing detailed steps that
one should take. The chapters on each ailment are well organised, explaining the causes that trigger them and afterwards proposing a multitude of solutions. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone interested either in learning Natural Medicine or trying to correct a health problem.

Summary: The Inhouse Doctor
Review: The authors have done an extensive research and presented facts that are real useful in life. I have been using herbs supplements for quite sometime but despite several books hat I have read non was able to give me all the information I needed. In this book they have given recommended range of prescription that you can choose from depending on your conditions. Most of my problems which in the hospital were defined as allergies, here have been defined as deficiency in immune which is true. I was not taking cold drinks, and I had chronic sinus but after using the recommended herbs for three months I was able to drink anything cold. I have now decreased the dosages by half and I am still doing fine. Similarly I have stopped taking medication for asthma due to these recommended herbs. I can write pages of my experience but this won't help much, so get the book and start practicing the recommendations to feel the effects.

Summary: Wonderful Book
Review: The book doesn't cover every herb out there; however, the book is organized by health problems not herbs, vitamins, & minerals. This is an excellent reference that is easy to read and goes into great detail about the causes of health problems and possible treatments including recommended doses. This book has information on some of the latest discoveries like 5-HTP & Melatonin, and is a must have for anyone in the health, mental health, & pharmacological fields. This book is definately an excellent resouce!
