Summary: Not a Fan
Review: I went into this book with a rather neutral perspective on "Coach K" and the details of his life. However, when I finally emerged from what I found to be a thoroughly soporific experience, I concluded that rarely have I seen such egomania on display. The self-importance one must have to even contemplate writing an autobiography at this stage of their life is pretty bold to say the least. "Coach K" delivered on this promise of self-grandeur, and I almost felt pity for him the futher I read. All I can ask is that he realizes the error of his ways, and the literary world won't be subjected to a sequal of "Coach K's" wisdom.

Summary: Coach K, no way
Review: I would have to agree with Mr. Utz. This book may be good for bathroom reading. Well, maybe not so much for reading, but wiping your bum with the pages. It was like someone took a giant poo on each page. I would suggest more refined reading.... A Coach's Life (Random House Large Print) by Dean Smith.

Summary: Great Book For Coaches, Fans, and Leaders
Review: In this book, Coach K does an excellent job of explaining his leadership techniques and how they have led to his unrivaled success with the Duke University men's basketball progream. While Duke fans will appreciate the examples more than non-fans, anyone who takes a leadership role in their life, or wants to, can benefit from reading this book. I would especially recommend it for aspiring coaches - from little league to the pros.

The layout of the book adds to its effectiveness. Sections of the book are labeled much like a basketball season...with the preseason, season, postseason, and all year. When he puts his leadership tactics in this layout, it helps everyone whose role as a leader changes focus throughout the year.

Summary: Leadership correctly
Review: Leadership is not given it is earned. I had been trying to figure out what was going on at my company when I came upon this book. This book spells out correctly why my company is not moving forward. Leadership from the heart gives the correct formula for every leader on how to lead and earn the respect of those he does lead. For those who are negative about this book are probably dictators who don't care for those they lead. Coach K does care and he shows how to be an effective leader by leading from a concern for the members of the team and how to create a unity of the team. People who don't think sports has any real life applications, have their heads in the sand. Every great leader I know was an athelete at one time in their life. That is why sports is stressed at the military academies. Coach K has some great stories from his days at West Point. The ability to win no matter the odds and and to get others to perform above their own abilities is something that is best taught in sports and then applied to the real world.

Summary: More about basketball and coaching than leadership
Review: Let me first preface this by saying I'm a huge Duke fan...
now, let me tell you that if you are in any position of leadership, this is a must-read! Coach K's outlook on leadership is very positive and easy to work into any type of job. I even found things to use while teaching 2nd graders!
If you are anti-Duke, you may be put off to references to past players, but the leadership ideas are so valuable! If you have ever read Pat Riley's book on leadership and enjoyed it, you will definitely enjoy this one!!

Summary: Well done, Coach K!
Review: Make no mistake, Coach K has written a guide for life---not just a guide for sports. In his insightful way, he shows all of us how adherence to strong values and concern for fellow man translate into a rich and rewarding life journey. Moreover, we come away from this book understanding why it is that even when Duke loses, it's still a winner....people like Coach K make the difference!

Summary: motivational power
Review: Mike is the simply the best college basketball coach in America. His book details the principles he follows in building and motivating college kids into a team. This is not a twilight of the career definitive biography. Instead, it is a book that fans , coaches and players of all ages can enjoy and apply. Heck even Carolina fans can find much to agree with in this volume!
