Rating: Summary: A very effective treatment Review: I have been treated by Dr Buchholz for about a year and have significantly reduced the frequency and severity of my migraines by following his program. This book provides an easy to understand explanation of what to do and how to do it, and is well worth the time.
Rating: Summary: A Must for Migraine Suffers Review: I've been suffering from migraines for several years and several months ago I experienced one of the worst episodes ever. I had to come home from work and get in bed. I stayed in bed for almost 16 hours! My head felt like it was going to explode and I literally thought I was dying. I made a promise to myself that if I came through this migraine episode I would need to do something about it because I couldn't go on the way I have been. Lucky for me, I found this book. I must admit that I didn't believe in food triggers. I always thought that this brought on migraines in other people but not me since I usually experienced my headaches during my menstrual cycle. I read the book in one sitting and this book has transformed my life. I can honestly say that I have not had a migraine in over 2 months. Now when it's that time of the month I may get a headache but I can take Tylenol and the headache will go away. It is such a relief to be able to start living a normal life again. I don't have to plan my life around my migraines and neither will you if you read this book. It is definitely money well spent!
Rating: Summary: An essential and effective tool for coping with headaches. Review: I highly recommend this book as a comprehensive, patient-oriented primer on migraines. It is unique when an authority such as Dr. Buchholz succinctly presents both academic and experiential information on a common disorder which seems to have eluded resolution with most healthcare practitioners. He systematically provides an overview of the field through his extensive knowledge of research, anecdotal reports and experience with a myriad of patients. Having been a patient of Dr. Buchholz, I can emphatically attest to the wisdom, compassion and understanding that he brings to his treatment dynamic. By presenting a stratified educational, behavioral and pharmaceutical treatment protocol, he provides not only a foundation for prevention but a unique vehicle for patients to assume collaborative responsibility for their treatment outcome. He has effectively created an essential tool in the arsenal of approaches to coping with headaches.
Rating: Summary: A simple plan for a complex problem. Review: We need more books like this that take an aggravating, yet common problem and reduce it's treatment down to easy steps anyone can follow. Readers who like this idea will probably also like to read "The Multifidus Back Pain Solution" if they struggle with back pain too. I feel that if an author really knows what he's talking about, he can put it in easy, distinct steps that most people can follow. Check 'em out!
Rating: Summary: Wisdom Made Simple Review: Dr. Buchholz makes it simple: explaining why people get headaches, how they can spiral out of control, but finally how to reduce or even eliminate them. This is a must-read if you've suffered through a lifetime of debilitating headaches.
Rating: Summary: Regarding daughter's headaches Review: I am not personally prone to headaches, but my 39-year old daughter is. I know she does not eat properly or get enough sleep, has much stress in her life, and tends to use a variety of headache-relief medications. I have read this book (as she has also done) with the anticipation of being able to help her change her habits with the assistance of this 1-2-3-method. This book certainly sounds very logical and I am certain that once she gets herself to follow the advice, I will no longer be getting daily phone calls about her headaches.
Rating: Summary: Finally The Truth Review: This marvelous book should be on the top of anyone's list who suffers from headaches (or other misdiagnosed ailments, now known to be a form of migrane). I plan to share this book with my internist in the hope that all of her headache suffering patients may finally get the relief they deserve. Thank you Dr. Buchholz.
Rating: Summary: Finally something that works! Review: Dr. Buchholz' has the answer to my migraine problem. His three step process (get off of current drugs, diet to avoid headache triggers, and preventive medicine only if you must) has given me two months of headache freedom. I've traded almost constant migraine for an occasional minor headache and that's getting better too. I think he's really figured it out.Dr. Buchholz also ties in several other head and neck ailments like "arthritis in the neck," and shows how these are related to migraines. Read the book, take his advice, expect major improvement.
Rating: Summary: Take Control - be your own doctor & best friend Review: This book establishes a framework from which you can control your own outcome. Once you learn to recognize the triggers, you can take responsibility for how you feel. Not only did I feel better physically (no more vision migraines) after following this diet but more importantly, I felt empowered. I could choose to follow the diet and avoid headaches but I can also choose to indulge knowing that I was responsible for the consequences. Great book for migraines - good life advise.
Rating: Summary: For the novice and the expert Review: Whether you know very little or have a vast knowledge of the brain and of headaches you will benefit from this book. Dr. Buchholz explains his theory at a level that can be understood by anyone and can enhance everyones knowledge.
