Summary: scary
Review: This book is excellent and should be read by anyone who cares about their health, but especially (future)parents who care about their children's brain health. Before I read this book I was one of the many people within this and other societies that had no clue that a lot of our food contains msg. Not only that, but this book also showed me how serious msg is and that although it is dangerous and trials have shown this dangers, nothing has been done about banning the substance from the food market. This book is very shocking, at least it was to me. The most shocking thing I learned is that msg is even used in babyfood, even though they are especially suceptable, because their brain has still a lot of growing to do. This book also tied in with one of my college research papers and so I got the chance to research the topic further and the most important information I came across, was that all trials that were done independately found somekind of a healthconcern, whereas trials done by the FDA and corporations didn't find any health concerns. So even if you don't buy this book, look out for aspartame and glutamates (for example: monosodium glutamate)or it might cost you your memory later on.

Summary: Useful although narrow
Review: This book is mostly about links between MSG and Alzheimers/Parkinson's. It goes into a lot of scientific detail about prior studies, brain function, etc.

Unfortunately, I was already sold onto the idea that MSG etc are bad substances, so most of the book was irrelevant to me. I was looking for ways to find foods that are MSG free. In that pursuit, only the last 2 pages of the book help: list of common names of MSG or MSG-containing substances on food labels. The book was not practically useless, therefore.

While reading this book, please realize that MSG and NutraSweet are not the only problematic food additives. There are preservatives like BHT etc added to foods esp meats, and those are also suspected to have negative health effects. Yet this book does not discuss them (maybe they are not exactly neuro-exciters).

Overall, could be good reading for some, but I found minimal use of this book.

Summary: A Wonderful Book of Great Substance
Review: This book tells it like it is! It's a must-read, in my opinion. At first, it is slow reading, but after you get past alot of the scientific information (some people, like myself, will appreciate this information), the truth really comes out. We Americans, are being poisoned and it's approved of by the FDA! The future of our country is at stake and so are our children's futures.

Speaking from first-hand knowledge, I almost died from the effects of the "excitotoxins" and this book helped to save my life. The "excitotoxins" are literally poison to our bodies (everyone is at risk!)and do extreme, sometimes deadly damage.

People with headaches, body aches, asthma and most other unexplained, undiagnosed illnesses, should definately read this book and do all that they can to illiminate the "excitotoxins" from their diets AND their loved ones diets.

As for the disclaimer about this book from Japan: You need to look at where ALL of the monosodium glutamate is manufactured (Japan!) and you also need to look at their double-blind experiments that use aspartame (similiar amino acid that will give the same skewed results).

Has anyone ever wondered WHY Americans are getting fatter and have more unexplained illnesses? Has anyone ever wondered WHY American children are developing more and more asthma, learning disabilities, hyperactivity, violent behavior and unexplained illnesses? I think that this book and Dr. Blaylock, can certainly answer these questions.

Very informational.

Summary: A superb effort to educate Americans
Review: This fascinating endeavor to inform us of one of the most threatening among current public health issues, is performed with a scholarly single-mindedness rarely achieved in the written media. Dr. Blaylock's courage displayed by "letting the chips fall where they may", should be an inspiration to other gifted medical professionals to do likewise. The content of this book is highly readable by any audience, uniquely suited for the issue being addressed, interesting to the point of fascination----and academically researched far beyond the norm, for the lay person readership. I am currently one of the principals in a non-profit research group (40 years experience) and have nothing but unreserved praise for this splendid contribution to our knowledge base.

Summary: Must Read For Every Intelligent American
Review: This is one of the most interesting and well-written books that I have read in a very long time. "Excitotoxins: The Taste That Kills" introduces the subject matter and lays a solid foundation for understanding by the uninformed. It strives for fairness in its handling of the subject matter, offering up where some information may not be yet conclusive. Its thoroughness and scholastic credibility are testified to by more than 500 scientific references in its less than 300 pages of text. If every intelligent American were to read this book this year, the new millenium would be entered by a decidedly healthier populous, with drastically descending health care costs, a subsequently immediate boon to the economy, and an overall dramatically increased standard of living and quality of life.

Review: This is to cancel Fred's so called "review". You can bet such an orator has vast knowledge and profound wisdom. Too much sugar and prescription drug abuse I suspect...poor soul.

Summary: solve your health problems
Review: To anyone with health problems, particularly migraines this book provides resolution. I discovered that my health problem was optional and by avoiding foods with MSG and other excito toxins my migraines disappeared!! I wish I had found this book 15 years ago and hope that everyone else has the opportunity to learn sooner. This book provided critical information that I was missing by following traditional food diaries and elimination/challenge techniques.

The even one bad review was distressing to see. I'd encourage anyone with health issues to read this book!!

Summary: IRRESPONSIBLE ATTEMPT AT EXPLAINING THE WORLDS AILMENTS
Review: What is Dr. Blaylock a doctor of? Certainly not a specialist in Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, seizures, Parkinson's disease, MS, etc....and general biochemistry. If these claims could be substantiated then why would the FDA allow the American public to continue using these products at all. This is a very irresponsible attempt at labeling aspartame as the culprit of everyone's ailments. Dr. Blaylock needs to go back to school to learn basic biochemistry and tact.
