Summary: Pain Free- what a great book!
Review: If you are having carpal tunnel or tendonitis pain, buy this book, make the posture corrections that he recommends, and do the excercies. It will stop your pain in it's tracks, and allow you to get back to your life! I can't tell you enough how effective and revolutionary this book is- better than anything the doctors have told me!

Summary: THE BIG ASK
Review: It's a big ask expecting your body to get better by having someone do something to you -sooner or later you have to do something to yourself. The medical profession prescribes a tablet a creme or a cortisine injection and sends you for an Xray. The physio's give you a rub down, or connect you to a galvanometer. The chiro's give it a crunch once a month and expect you to keep coming back. The surgeons have their own remedy. The exercises you do at the gym are necessary, but not sufficient particularly when form and function are correlated. Egoscue knocked my previous beliefs on musculo-skeletal dysfunction into a cocked hat. The method is logical and compelling. Like all good ideas the best ones are usually the simplest. This is an excellent book for any practitioner involved in the diagnosis and treatment of people with musculo-skeletal dysfunction and for anyone with a crook back, stiff neck, sore shoulder, bung hip, game leg or dicky knee ... look no further.

Summary: A book that every infomercial fitness geek should read!
Review: Of all people, my ENT doctor reccomended this book to me and now I will be able to postpone the dreaded and imperfect knee replacement surgery which I was scheduled to have in Jan. 99. A true common sense breakthrough in pain management through using what your own body already knows - in good health is its normal condition. Thanks Pete

Summary: pain free after one try
Review: OK, so I'm in pain and willing to try anything for my neck. I did these simple positions. They are not stretches or exercize per say but rather poses for muscular realignment. Anyway, I did them this morning exactly as described. And I had no neck pain when I was done, 30 minutes later. I figured, ok, I distracted my neck for 10 or 15 minutes (which would be a miricle in itself), but I went without pain medication for almost 4 hours. I am going to do these every morning, and I don't commit to much!

Summary: IF YOUR BACK HURTS, DON'T FAIL TO READ THIS BOOK
Review: Pete Egoscue's book was recommended to me by my boss, so how could I ignore it? To my surprise, it completely changed my life. If your back hurts enough or often enough to be reading this book review, make this purchase your number-one priority. Period.

Summary: common sense for common pains
Review: Pete Egosque is a character. He has strong, perhaps controversial, opinions, but he can both justify and explain them. I met him briefly at a seminar several years ago,and was impressed enough to buy his book then. I remember noticing how perfectly poised and balanced his staff were - a poise you might notice in dancers or yoga instructors, yet somehow more grounded. Peter has balance, but he is definitely a marine (there's no such thing as an "ex" marine); I can't quite explain the difference in poise as demonstrated between a marine and the average yoga instructor, but he exemplfies it. In any case, I had no particular pain when I bought the the book, but used the routines sporadically as part of my fitness program and felt they were quite good. That was fine, but the real value was revealed when I had my first serious pain problem a few months ago. I'll spare you the details, but I was immoblized by back pain. Could-not move-without-agony immoblized. I took big dose Motrin (didn't help), rested (didn't help), switched to Vioxx (helped some), and got Egosque's book off the shelf which is really what saved me. It truely worked. Of course I was motivated (pain does that), but if you do the exercises you'll benefit. Now that I feel fine I'm not as compulsive as I was about doing the routines, which is a fine commentary on human nature, but I'm definitely convinced as to their value and do at least some of his routines every day. My particular problem was back pain, but Egosque covers the entire body. Use this book if you have pain; better yet, use the routines suggested to maintain optimum physical balance and keep yourself off the injured list.

Summary: Response to another review
Review: Re: Fad exercises, April 19, 2002
Reviewer: A reader from Limassol, Cyprus

I was only in my 30's(not a pensioner) when I used this book and the results were amazing. Yes, they take time to do, but too many people want a quick fix via a pill or surgery. This book helps you avoid those if that is your choice. I made time by getting up earlier in the morning or staying up a little later. This book truly changed my life and many other people's lives that I referred it to.

Summary: Please pick and choose
Review: Suffering from low back pain, hip pain, and neck pain for over five years I was given this book to read. After one session of chapter 7 I felt relief in my hips and my knees were more directly positioned over my feet. But as I read through this book I came upon some disturbing statements made by the author. On page 137 he states that spinal stenosis, spondylolysis, spondylolisthesis, spondylosis, and scoliosis are also muscular conditions. It may be true that these conditions were caused by skeletal misallignment, but I can tell you that after suffering with spinal stenosis for all this time and finding out that my stenosis is genetic and to try some of the exercises he shows for the back for someone with spinal stenosis would be crazy. He constantly talks about the curve in the spine but if you have spinal stenosis the last thing you want to do is arch your back. To disregard these conditions in one sentence and to think they can be fixed with exercises that put you in more pain is wrong.Even though it sounds like I'm condemming this book I just wanted to show that you have to pick and choose what is right for you and not to take it all as gospel. Remember in this book he talked about helping jack nicklaus the golfer, well jack just had a hip replacement last week.

Summary: Outstanding Book! Immediate Relief
Review: Thanks. I had immediate relief from pain that I had for 6 months. The thought process and mindset used in this book is refreshing and right on target. Highly recommend adopting these ideas in your lifestyle.

Summary: Bible for your Body!!!
Review: The principles and system of exercise therapy in this book has helped me recover from 10 years of chronic joint pain (neck, back, shoulder, hip, knees, ankles). Pete Egoscue will revolutionize the Physical Therapy field! He will put the chiropractors out of business. And force the orthopedic surgeons to rethink their approach from pain management to dealing with the true problem of most joint pain - muscle dysfuntion and joint misalignment. Remember this - MUSCLES MOVE BONES, bones impinge on discs and nerves! If you suffer with joint pain, please get this book. I also HIGHLY recommend meeting with one of his therapist - there is no substitute for one-on-one instruction.
