Summary: A Diet That Makes Sense.
Review: Haing read the same review in the Economist that Marty Wisott includes in his review, I purchased the book. I was not disappointed.

Even if you don't buy off totally on the Fuhrman diet, this book is valuable because it presents great information and advice on nutrition and diet and points out the defects in the various pop diets that are out there, notably Dr. Atkins'. Dr. Fuhrman has obviously spent a great deal of time analyzing and reconciling the many nutritional studies dealing with the effects of diet on health, and his conclusions make sense.

Summary: Eat to Live
Review: From the Economoist-SUPPOSE you are a fat New Yorker. Suppose, furthermore, that you are increasingly susceptible to heart disease and you have to get the pounds off. Time is not on your side, and there are more than 25,000 diet books in print. Where do you go to find dependable counsel? The man you need, many cardiac specialists will tell you, is a New Jersey doctor named Joel Fuhrman who specialises in nutrition.

Dr Fuhrman dislikes what he regards as faddish regimes: Barry Sears's "zone diet", Dr Atkins's low-carb solution and James D'Adamo's controversial advice for people with different blood groups. Nor is he a fan of the USDA diet recommendations that, he says, have created the paradox of a population that is overfed but undernourished.

The pitfall of most diets, Dr Fuhrman argues, is that they tend to regulate macronutrients-proteins, fats and carbohydrates. The focus of "Eat to Live" is on micronutrients-vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and phytochemicals that promote health. The goal of a healthy diet, he says, is to get the most micronutrients from the fewest calories.

Dr Fuhrman suggests almost eliminating fats and starches in favour of greens, beans and fruit. His regime even works if you don't do a lot of exercise. This reviewer, who has become something of an expert on diets over the years, lost ten pounds (4.5 kilos) in one month; the norm, Dr Fuhrman claims, is 15. Empty calories from soft drinks, dairy products, meat and starches or processed foods with little to no micronutrition are easily converted to fat and extra poundage. So-called "2 percent" milk claims to be a diet food, but 35% of its calories come from fat. On the other hand, green vegetables are an excellent source of protein as well as antioxidants that reduce risk of cancer and heart disease. By weight, the amount of protein they contain is insignificant, but in terms of calories broccoli is 45% protein, while a cheeseburger contains only 21%.

Sit up, George Bush senior, scourge of broccoli. Without the protein in greens, how else could your Texan cattle develop all that tasty muscle?

Summary: Amazing Weight Loss!
Review: I have tried every diet known to man, and have not had good results. I even went to get my thyroid tested because I just couldn't seem to lose weight. I bought this book hoping it would help me, and it did. I am currently starting week number 4 of the 6 week plan and I have lost 10 pounds! My husband has lost 17! This is truly amazing. If you follow Dr. Furhman's plan, you will lose weight.

Summary: Finally a heathy diet!
Review: It is about time that there is a diet book that takes your health into consideration! With all the diets out there that help lose weight at the expense of your health, it is refreshing and about time someone explained Nutrition and Healthy eating to the general population. Dr. Fuhrman explains not only how to lose weight, but how to get healthy. Like any diet, you have to follow it for it to work, but if you can stick to it for 6 weeks you will notice how much better you feel that you will want to continue eating healthy.
If you want to keep eating the same old stuff that the mass market sells and still lose weight, this is not the book for you.

Summary: Loved Dr. Fuhrman's New Book
Review: I loved Dr. Fuhrman's new book. It's an easy read, packed with powerful arguments for a plant based diet that I can credibly share with friends and family. I really liked the way Dr. Fuhrman picks apart the myriad of popular diets from high protein to "blood type", all of which som many of my friens and family have mistakenly tried. His recipies are also great and easy to prepare. I loved his last book--Fasting and Eating for Health--and can't wait for his next book.

Summary: Revolutionary? I don't think so.
Review: Will you loose weight if you follow his plan? No way not to. Can you stay on it for longer than a couple of months? Only if you have a will of iron. This is Nathan Pritikin/Dean Ornish in a new package. The author cites studies to back up his position but totally ignores information from those same studies that undermine his no saturated fat and animal protein hypothesis. I think we are all confused about what to eat these days but unfortunately this author has done little to clarify our dilemma.

Summary: An Inspirational Book on Health and Diet
Review: I bought Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book "Eat to Live" on advice of my personal trainer and have been following his diet for the last three weeks.

My blood pressure, high before I started his diet, has stabilized enough that my doctor has taken me off my medication. Unlike other diets which encourage short term deprivation to lose weight, Dr. Fuhrman's methods have changed my relationship to food and my body. After just a few days my desire for sweets is almost completely gone. I enjoy making my meals, taking time to take care of myself and having more energy for me and my family.

Thank you Dr. Fuhrman for writing an easy to read, no nonsense, informative, life altering book.

Summary: The Healthiest Approach to Eating, Not Just Another Diet.
Review: Eat to Live, the book, identifies the most principally correct, scientifically substantiated, and practical way to eat. You'll not only to lose the excess weight but also take your health to very high levels and really enjoy food... while you're eating it, and after.

We're all eating to live right now; Eat to Live, the book, shows us how to eat the best we can and what happens when we do.

You don't read of studies anywhere condemning a plant centric diet comprised predominantly of and derived directly from unrefined Vegetables, Legumes, Fruits, Whole Grains, Nuts, Seeds, Dried fruit etc, or leading anywhere other than... superior health. In a non-idealistic fashion, Dr Fuhrman marries ideal eating, with a really enjoyable cuisine and he provides full and un-compromised scientific substantiation so you can eat to live with confidence.

'Eat to Live' is really the healthiest approach to eating. It's not just another diet. No doubt it contests the rigid belief systems behind a number of weight loss diets and styles of eating that have vested interests in the status quo. For example, the standard American diet - or several popular diets that are based on faulty or nutritional science gone awry, that take a small fact in a broader science and magnify it to create a new diet laden with false promises. And no doubt there will be people who say unsubstantial things about 'Eat to Live' the book, because they want to protect their current mode of eating which may or may not be compromising their health.

Why not know how far you can really take things, so you can strive to improve and get even better results, rather than settle with the status quo or silly weight loss diets that get you nowhere. Eat to Live!

Summary: Simple Diet that makes sense
Review: Eat to Live is a well written diet/health book that makes total sense. Anyone who starts to read this book will not be able to put it down, especially if they are overweight or sick.
The highly critical review written by "Anonymous" is ridiculous!
It is not possible to have anything but positive results on Dr. Fuhrman's diet plan. I believe that gimmick diets, like the Atkins Plan, the Zone, and the Blood Type Diets are dangerous and maybe that is what Mr. Anonymous meant to say. Dr. Fuhrman backs up everything he says with proven scientific studies that no one can dispute.
I have read several other health related books by other doctors and nutritionists and have to say that "Eat to Live" is the easiest to read and understand of all of them. Plus, it is jammed packed with detailed and scientific information. I strongly recommend this book.

Summary: The Title Says it All "Eat To Live" !
Review: My Family and I have followed the diet that Dr Fuhrman has outlined in is book "Eat To Live". I personally have lost 25 lbs while on the diet and have noticed a significant increase in my energy. It feels great to wear the same pants size as I did in college. Dr. Fuhrman's diet offers the human body all the tools it needs to recover health and loose weight naturally. Dr Fuhrman's diet is not dangerous it is just plain and simple healthy eating. My sister passed away of colon cancer. She said months before she died that she wished she had taken better care of her body and had eaten more healthfully during her life. Dr Fuhrman's book provides you with the blue print to live a longer healthier life.
