Summary: Echo---the only diet/eating plan book you'll every need!
Review: *****
I have read literally hundreds of nutrition books. I have been confused recently by many of the popular diet books like Atkins, South Beach Diet, and No-Grain Diet, as they made sense to me yet when I tried to eat this way I felt horrible. I had previously lost a great deal of weight eating raw food at a raw food retreat, but could not keep up this way of eating in the real world. I really didn't know what to do, except to keep searching and trying new things.

Then, over the last three days, I read Eat to Live. This book answered all of the questions I had about the popular diet programs. It showed me a practical way that I could integrate my belief in and my success with raw foods into a healthy eating plan that I could follow for the rest of my life (although Eat to Live incorporates all types of healthy foods, not just raw foods). It explained why so many studies on nutrition seemingly contradict one another. Everything the author says is backed up with research from peer-reviewed journals. It is the solution I have been waiting for, not just to my weight problem (I still have about 50 pounds to lose) but to my health problems, and for my lifestyle in general.

I hope to follow this way of eating for the rest of my life. I am very excited because the author has extremely simple recipes (the book is mostly informative, though, not mostly recipes like some diet books). He also explains how this can be followed with a harried and hectic lifestyle or while traveling.

The author promotes nothing that has not been studied extensively in the medical literature, making this book very appealing to physicians and others in the medical field. It is technical, so it is good for people familiar with scientific study and medical terminology; however, someone wanting the basic message of the book can skip over these parts and figure out how to do the eating plan very easily. I am just the type of person who wants to understand WHY everything is done and WHY I should modify parts of my diet, so for me this book was a breath of fresh air moving through my life, showing me what I needed to know and what I need to do.

For those who choose to follow the diet and want extensive support, the author provides this, too, via his website---from low-cost ways to more costly one-on-one support. However, unlike many other diet books, the author does not set himself up as a diet guru, nor does he bad-mouth other diet book authors when he critiques their programs. One gets the feeling that he wrote the book truly to help people improve their health.

This book was an answer to prayer for me, and I thank God that the author wrote it.

Summary: Good only for those who want to be vegetarian
Review: I was very disappointed with this book. I found that it did not offer anything new and seems more dated than the other new diet books around. Of course you'll lose weight if you spent 6 weeks eating largely vegetables. But how many people -- even those who are veteran dieters can do that. Not many will find this a realistic diet they can stick with.

Summary: Not just a Diet....a new healthy Life !!
Review: Obesity rates are soaring and the timing for this book could not be better. Americans are dying in record numbers
because of their unhealthy lifetyles including massive consumption of junk food and processed foods that are almost
void of any nutrients. This book shows you how to change your lifestyle for weight loss and better health. It's
simple... change the type of foods you eat from "Nutrient Void" to "Nutrient Full" and you will reap the benefits
forever. You may also want to check out another great lifestyle modification book that just came out called "The
Power of Positive Habits"...a great combination.

Summary: This book has changed my life more than any other book.
Review: I read Eat to Live at the end of April, 2003 and started the diet around the 1st of May, 2003. Since that time I've lost 40 pounds and feel the best I have ever felt in my life. I no longer get those stomach rumblings and grumblings and actually feel what true hunger really feels like, a very nice sensation in my mouth and throat. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their eating and live longer as the book is for everyone and not just for those who want to lose weight.

Summary: Resolves chronic disease issues, not just for weight loss!
Review: Don't let the title fool you - this is not just a weight loss diet, it is a healthy eating plan for life that has the pleasant side effect of causing you shed excess weight. If you are worried that you can't choke down all those greens or that you can't live without a hamburger and french fries, etc, the author proposes that you make a full 6 week commitment to the program - your taste buds have an amazing capability of adapting to different foods. I stumbled across this plan after I was diagnosed with large uterine fibroids - I had been dieting and exercising to lose weight but desperately wanted the weight to come off faster. Well, within the 9 weeks or so I've been on this plan, some of my health issues related to the fibroids have resolved, my sinuses from allergy problems have amazingly gotten healthier, and I've dropped weight at a rate nearly 3 times faster than before ETL. Prior to "full commitment" 9 weeks ago, it took me a few weeks to work up to eating the amount of greens the author proposes. Stick with it and don't give up - it works!

Summary: Best book on nutrition I've ever read
Review: This book is simply amazing. It was published in 2003, and includes all kinds of information about nutritional studies done up to that point. Dr. Fuhrman goes about things very scientifically, and only talks about what has been shown by science. He of course has an opinion, but his very scientific approach to analzying nutrition, cancer, disease, and the links between them is factual and based on studies he references. This man has done more research about the subject of nutrition than any other nutrition/diet book on the market. He also is a practicing physician, and a leader in nutritional alternatives to surgery.

His main claim is not to help you lose weight, although his publisher definetly advertises that fact to gain more sales. Losing weight is a by-product of his solid nutrition information, but his main focus is on improving his readers' health. He shows how many cancers and diseases can be reversed through aggressive nutrition. For those looking for an alternative to surgery, his book is a godsend. For those wishing to lose weight, his book is worth its weight in gold. For those wishing to improve all areas of their life, this book is priceless.

One of the more interesting points he talks about is the idea of "true hunger". Most people haven't experienced a true hunger ever in their lives. I am eating based on his guidelines for example, and if I skip a meal, my stomach doesn't growl or complain. I don't get headaches and feel faint or dizzy. Nothing bad happens to me at all. This used to happen in the past mind you, but now that I'm eating healthfully that kind of hunger, which is really a withdrawl symptom, is gone. Hunger for me now is experienced in the throat and mouth. It's very hard to explain unless you've experienced it. But if you're getting your stomach grumbling if you delay eating, that isn't hunger you're feeling. I'll let his book explain why, as he does a much better job than I can.

I bought this book and after reading it cover to cover several times, bought a copy for several members of my family and mailed it to them. Incorportating just a fraction of the new scientific nutrition information can improve your health dramatically, I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in nutrition at all.

Summary: Not blown away.
Review: You'll find a lot of info in this book but in some ways it's a little extreme. This book states that the average healthy weight given to us from the medical society is wrong and that to be healthy you must wiegh MUCH LESS that the average healthy weight.

Summary: A Food Pyramid that Finally Makes Sense
Review: Nagging nutritional questions after 10 years of off-and-on reading on the subject were suddenly answered in "Eat to Live." Dr. Fuhrman's Food Pyramid snapped everything into place Coupled with the new video "Eating,"..."Eat to Live" jacked up commitment to a plant-based diet by about 50 notches. Sometimes it's easier to jump in and get the cold water part over with than to ease in inch by inch--Dr. Fuhrman's Six-Week Plan is just the ticket.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Great Diet even if you don't like fruits and veggies!
Review: One reviewer stated that Dr Fuhrman's Eat to Live Plan allows no animal products; Eat to Live has no such rigid requirement. Eat to Live describes 7 days of menu plans for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians. Dr. Fuhrman makes clear that a diet rich in vegetables does not have to exclude animal foods completely (although they should be limited). As a physician, I have observed Dr. Fuhrman in action with his patients. He regularly modifies recipes and menu plans to accommodate various tastes and food preferences. It is not an all or nothing plan. Eat To Live gives you the knowledge to make healthy food choices based on the concept of Nutrient Density (which he explains in the book).

After a lifetime of eating 'junk' it may take practice and creativity for some, to make the healthiest way to eat, taste favorable. Taste and food preferences are learned. While it may take a few months, an investment in retraining your palate to enjoy the healthiest foods on the planet will produce dividends of lifelong good health. It is unfortunate that the reviewer from Philadelphia is ready to cash in all of the benefits of a healthy diet after only one day. The fact is, most actually enjoy the taste of whole and natural foods better especially once they have rid themselves of the toxins and chronic ailments associated with the Standard American Diet. This does not happen overnight!

Eat To Live is far more then just a manifesto on weight loss. Eating the healthiest foods will not only help you to reverse many chronic diseases; it will help you to live YOUNGER longer. A healthy weight is a direct result of a healthy lifestyle. There are a million unhealthy ways to lose weight. Eat To Live makes you healthy which results in you achieving your ideal weight.

Get the book and see for yourself. I believe every person in America must read this information; it puts all controversy about diets and losing weight to rest and may save your life.
