Summary: A Must Read Book About The Thyroid
Review: I recommend this book to those who have been diagnosed with hypothyrodism and those who suspect they are hypothyroid. This book covers virtually everything on the topic and presents the information in a logical and easy to read format. You don't need to be a doctor to take good care of your thyroid... you just need determination and this book!

Summary: Good Book/loaded
Review: I found out more about Hypothyroidism than I ever knew before thanks to this book. It also was the catalyst for me to be more assertive regarding my TSH test results which said normal range.
I was feeling anything but normal.

I do feel the book is a little deep with medical jargon and information overload. I found it helpful overall but must admitt
it was a little hard to read and depressing in some spots. Left me wondering if I will ever be normal again. Although helpful for a person in a "fog" it is a lot to handle.

Summary: Explained what my doctor couldn't
Review: This book is wrote so anyone, even myself could understand. It is very helpful. Mary goes on and explains the medicines, when to get blood checks, what are side effects etc.. So when we go back to our doctors, we'll know excately what they need to know in order for them to help us.

Summary: an indepth guide on how to control hypothyroidism
Review: Somehow you doctor never tells you important information like what really is a normal thyroid level. I was told I was marginally hypothyroid when I was clearly suffering from hypothyroidism. This book has given me more knowledge than my doctor would ever have!!. It is a must read for all who suffer or who think they might be suffering from hypothyroidism!!

Summary: If you have hypothyroidism - read this book!!
Review: Being a man, I would not have read this book two weeks ago, but since I have been diagnosed as having an under-active thyroid, I am tickled pink I did read it! Thanks to a very good and thorough doctor I know why I have all the symptoms I do. Thanks to Ms. Shomon I now know how to interact with my doctor in the future concerning my condition. I sure hope my new found knowledge on this subject doesn't make him uneasy! I now know what to ask if my current dosage of Synthroid doesn't do for me what it should. Excellent, excellent book that I will refer to often in the future. Am I upset at having this condition being a man? Absolutely not! Being one out of seven or ten makes this special.

Summary: A Lifesaving Book
Review: Over the past thirty years, corporations that market thyroxine and TSH assays have bought and paid for the collective mind of conventional endocrinology. This corporate molding of conventional endocrinology's mind has now made millions of hypothyroid patients victims of a world-wide public health crisis. These victims are chronically ill, the quality of their lives is dramatically diminished, and many die prematurely. No author and no book are doing more to rectify this horrific legacy of conventional endocrinology than Mary Shomon and Living Well With Hypothyroidism. Mary explains this problem and describes how patients can recover their health. We enthusiastically recommend this lifesaver of a book.

Summary: Living Well With Hypothyroidism
Review: I have been reading about the thyroid for the 14 years I have been hypothyroid. This book is the best source on the topic of hypothyroidism. Once you have hypothyroidism, you will always be dealing with it, and possibly other autoimmune disorders. The book helps me as I try to live well. The information on vitamins and minerals is also very useful. The author also has a very useful website on the thyroid. She includes information on the latest controversy about Synthroid. I refer to the book very often. This book and author are superb!

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good book for educating yourself
Review: Mary Shomon does an excellent job of helping you to determine whether or not you have hypothyroidism. If you already know that going in, you may want to skip the first few chapters of the book. She continually researches the subject scientifically and keeps up with anecdotal information as well. This is a good starting place for those who want to springboard to other resources.

Summary: Urges one to take action vs. hyperthyroidism
Review: My wife has been treated for Grave's Disease and so this book has become very relevant. Although this book does not lack in its attention to scientific details, we like this one because its narrative style makes the content more personal. It relies on the everyday experience of hypothyroid patients, rather than just detailing the symptoms. Therefore it gives the reader more courage to take personal action. You can feel the concern the author holds for her readers, as she gives earnest, practical steps on how a patient can live normally despite the condition.
