Summary: Wish I knew about FAM sooner!
Review: I bought this book in order to prevent pregnancy, because I want off the pill. As a 23-year-old in a stable, monogamous relationship who is concerend about side effects and long term effects of synthetic hormones, I highly recommend this book!

I shied away from some other "natural birth control" books due to religious overtones - they tend to make me uncomfortable. This book is just chock-full of info about keeping track of your cycle and knowing when you're fertile, when you're not, and all the biological reasoning behind fertility. Sex education in my school gave the impression that you can get pregnant ANY TIME! I guess they were trying to scare us away from having unprotected sex PERIOD.

It really is a shame that this method isn't promoted more strongly at places like Planned Parenthood, where I first went in search of birth control and continued going to until a few months ago. Even when I brought up switching to a non-hormonal birth control method at that last appointment, I was presented only with barrier methods, and even the NuvaRing and IUD, both of which have hormones!

Perhaps I should write another review after using what I've learned for a year or so to say how it's worked for me, since I can't accurately chart (not technically ovulating and cervical fluid is altered). Wish me luck!

Summary: Got Pregnant the Second Month Using This Method!!!!!
Review: I highly recommend this book and method for getting pregnant. I am 39 and had been trying to get pregnant for six months using an ovulation predictor kit. We already have a 2 year old daughter that was conceived the first month we tried, so I was very discouraged that we were not pregnant yet. A friend of mine recommended this book, and I thought it was worth a shot! I found the book a very easy read. I read the sections relevant to getting pregnant in one night (there are also sections on birth control, menopause, etc). I began charting immediately. I did not go crazy with charting-I just recorded my temp each day and checked the other 2 signs (cervical mucus and cervical position) starting about a week before I knew I was going to ovulate. I got pregnant the second month!! The book is super informative about all aspects of a woman's reproductive body. A great read even if you just want to get to know what's going on with your body every month. Hope this review helps!!

Summary: I know my body now..
Review: But the book still has not helped us one bit in the fertility department.

Summary: I read it over and over!
Review: This is the first type of book I have bought on fertility and I must say I found it a mine of information. It's the sort of information I think every woman should know irregardless of age or whether or not they are thinking of getting pregnant. My husband and I are now trying to have a baby and are really looking forward to it since we are no longer doing it in the dark, if you will excuse the pun!
I feel more in control of my body than ever. It's weird that thinking back on when I was on the pill, I was actually worried about getting pregnant but not understanding what was needed to even become pregnant!
My husband also found it very useful and now his daily question to me is "so how is your temp today?". I think he forgets what it all means sometimes but I leave the book by our bed all the time so he can pick it up whenever he wants. I love that he's so interested, and doesn't think the subject taboo.
Growing up, my mother didn't impart anything like this level of knowledge, simply because she didn't know as much. Likewise in school we only ever learned the basics. There was never a reference manual we could use to refer to when we needed it. Taboo indeed!
In short, I loved the book and I have all my friends reading it. Thank you!!!

Summary: Excellent information - but take with a grain of salt
Review: If you are anything like me, you were about 12 years old when you learned everything you know about the female body. Of course back then we were more concerned about guessing who had gotten their period so far and too busy avoiding eye contact with the boys in the room to really pay much attention.

Now, both as an adult and as a woman actively trying to achieve pregnancy, this is invaluable information that I wish I had known all along. Through Ms. Weschler's clear and easy to understand writing, you'll learn to fill in those blanks: how everything works, what exactly goes on during your cycle, how best to time sex for conception (I learned within the first month of charting that we were off by about 10 days - no wonder our first attempts didn't work!) and so much more...including how HIS parts work (700 million sperm at any given time? OH MY!).

However, I would also take Ms. Weschler's blatant distain for the medical community with a grain of salt. YES, her methods provide invaluable knowledge for women and YES this is information I believe each woman should be armed with, but I do bristle at her constant dismissal of all doctors and her negative portrayal of them. Especially alarming was her description of colonoscopy as "demoralizing." No, this procedure isn't as fun as trip to Disneyland, but it has indisputably saved thousands of lives despite the stigma many would place on it. My hope is that women read this to learn more about themselves...but not shy away from seeking medical help when and if they need it.

Summary: A must-read for all women!
Review: I only wish that I had discovered this book 20 years ago. It's amazing to me how little I truly understood the hormonal changes that my body goes through each month. Toni Weschler's highly informative book has made this complex - and wonderous - monthly cycle of activity easy to understand. Regardless of whether you are exploring alternative forms of birth control, seeking strategies for enhancing your chances for pregnancy, or wanting simply to better understand your gynecological health, this book is for you.

Summary: Amazing Book! Better than the Art of Family Planning
Review: If you ever want to avoid pregnancy or get pregnant, this is the book to have. It also explains an alternative birth control that doesn't have side effects and will only require 2 minutes of your time in a day. I like this book better than the Art of Family Planning because it doesn't preach. Another reason is that it's simpler and very easy to understand.

Summary: Wonderful Book!
Review: I absolutely love this book! Sure, I happen to have had great success with it. My husband and I read through it once and started charting right away even though I was mid-cycle (just to get used to the process). The very next full cycle that we charted -- I got pregnant! Yahoo! :-)

But even if you aren't going to use this book for pregnancy achievement, it is still a great wealth of information! At the age of 32 I thought I already knew women's anatomy, basic biology, and my own body pretty well. And I did. But after reading this book, I realized that there is a LOT more to know!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone -- for pregnancy achievement, birth control, or just to get to know your body and your cycle patterns better.

Summary: TIRED OF PILLS & BARRIER METHODS??
Review: From experience, I can tell you that this method of birth control works. My husband and I have been using it since we got married and we'll begin using it soon to conceive. Not only do you not use unnatural substances to prevent pregnancy, and no stopping to introduce a barrier method, but you can actually grow closer to your spouse through communication and trust. Toni explains everything in plain English. We keep one by the bedside for quick reference!
Just a note of caution! Be prepared to have your general practioner or OB/GYN look at you as if you had 4 eyes! But be confident in yourself that you've chosen the healthiest (physically & emotionally) method and you know your body better than anyone!

Summary: I am fertile; hear me roar!
Review: This book is amazing! I've read most of it yesterday and today, and while I'm sure it will take a rereading or two to grasp everything, I know SO much more about my body and fertility than I did before-and I thought I was pretty well informed.

What do I know now that I didn't two days ago? Among other things, I know:

- How to check the position of my cervix
- How to increase the quality/quantity of cervical fluid
- How to chart my fertile period each month, either to avoid or achieve conception

Hopefully I will be able to edit this review in a few months with the news that we have successfully conceived. After reading this book, we are definitely well on our way.
