Rating: Summary: ...Also for NOT making babies! Review: This book is an excellent resource for us women to know our bodies better. Who can argue with that? I thought my mother and doctor taught me everything I needed to know growing up, until I became sexually active and DIDN'T WANT TO HAVE A BABY. The truth is, this book taught my mother a thing or two.I found that the pill is too much garbage to put in my system, AND that I am allergic to many ingredients in alternative forms of birth control. The training this book gave me helped keep me baby-free, even though, my husband and I DO plan to have children. I also believe the knowledge I have gleaned from this outstanding resource will keep me, my husband and our future babies healthier because I know, and my husband knows, my body better than ever expected. Thanks, Toni, for giving us this highly valuable knowledge.

Rating: Summary: Pregnant and enlightened Review: Forget Naomi Wolfe, this is the most empowering book for women that I have ever read. Did you know that menstruation is only half the story? And, once you know what to look for, the other half is so obvious! Fertility signs? HA! More like fertility billboards. Toni Weschler's book not only unraveled the mysteries of my own body, but helped me achieve pregnancy after only two months! Had I tried to conceive on Day 14 as commonly recommended by doctors, I would have never achieved pregnancy with my 24-day cycle! Imagine the stress and self doubt I would have had to endure? Thank you Toni for saving me from that! This comprehensive book states the facts clearly and concisely. While the table for tracking your cycle looks complicated, after reading only a few chapters, I was able to keep track without problems. I recommend a thorough read of at least the first half, and keeping the book on hand for reference. Whether or not you are trying to achieve pregnancy, you deserve to know these facts about your body. And shame on those doctors and sex educators who withheld this information from us for so long!
Rating: Summary: A Must Read Book Review: This book gives step-by-step instructions that will help anyone trying to get pregnant do so with more confidence and success. We tried for over one year to get pregnant and only then did I find this book. After only one month using the FAM method we got pregnant! I was embarrassed to learn how simple it actually is to understand your cycle and your peak fertility days. If you want to get pregnant, then get this book.
Rating: Summary: Essential for every woman, especially teens Review: This is not just a guide to getting pregnant. It is about knowing your body without being embarassed. It is quite liberating to read this book and then be able to recognize exactly where you are in your fertility cycle. Too often, women are made to feel guilty or shamed about even looking at our bodies. It's beyond imagination for some women to examine themselves or to ask questions about what exactly their bodies do. Weschler helps break this barrier and shows us why it's critical to overcome the societal embarassment or reluctance. She makes a very good point: why is it that men are fertile all of the time, that women are fertile for just 5 days a month, yet the majority of birth control involves a woman taking a drug 30 days a month, or inserting a contraceptive device before every sexual encounter? Forget about the burden being placed on women (as long as we bear the children we will be ultimately responsible). Think about the ridiculousness of taking powerful hormonal drugs every day or having to use contraception when you're not even fertile! The drug and contraceptive industries are having a field day! This book has three very distinct values: 1. An essential part of every adolescent girl's education about her changing body. This book will do more than almost anything else in preparing her for responsible sexual encounters, and will help her self esteem by getting rid of her trepidation about her body. 2. Tool for avoiding pregnancy. 3. Tool for achieving pregnancy. It boils down to three basic fertility signs: basal temperature, cervical fluid, and height of cervix. Once you read the book and become accomplished at tracking each of the three signs, you can put away the thermometer. Weschler urges you to track the basal temperature faithfully for several months. But, especially if you're using the method as birth control, you can judge by the other two signs and safely avoid pregnancy. And it takes absolutely no extra effort or monitoring. Most of us have heard the jokes about natural family planning. Weschler discusses those criticisms and shows why this book is different and reliable. "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" will ease your mind and give you the confidence of being certain when you are fertile or not fertile.
Rating: Summary: Extremely helpful! Review: When I started trying to conceive, I wasn't going to botherwith charting temperatures.... I did an overseas move (which was verystressful), and I was really worried.... Then I picked up TCOYF, and I read where it mentioned that travel can affect your cycles for months on end. .... This book is great. Doctors tell so many women to chart, and they wonder why it doesn't work. .... ...[if you] just want to understand your body better, I highly recommend this book. So many women are uninformed, not infertile.
Rating: Summary: I'm Pregnant Review: Without the knowledge that this book gave me on how to read and understand my cycle, it may have taken my dear husband and I longer than one month to get pregnant. We knew exactly when to baby dance because of my charting....it worked!
Rating: Summary: Worth every penny! Review: This is the book that every mother should share with her daughters about their body, cycles, fertility, etc. I have worked in the medical industry and feel that I had an average knowledge base but after reading this book I now know that I was completely in the dark. If you are trying to get pregnant, which I am, or if trying to use a natural form of family planning, THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU! I can't believe how easy she made this topic to understand. We are now in the final stages of our infertility problems, and it is all progressed so quickly because of our knowledge of my body and the "symphony" that is easier to understand after reading this book.
Rating: Summary: A perfect resource Review: Wow! Where was this book when I was going through puberty! Every young woman should read this book. Not only does Toni Weschler help put into perspective the female reproductive system, she also created a well organized user friendly guide book that can be read and understood by both young and old. What a great addition to a female's book collection. I have already passed on this reference to several female friends.
Rating: Summary: What A Blessing Review: My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a year with no success. It seems we have obstacles on both sides, but this book has given me so much hope and inspiration! As irregular as my cycles may be, I know exactly when to expect ovulation to occur. The charting methods in this book have put me soooo in touch with my body, that I feel like my own physician. I can tell if I have an infection, I always know when I am ovulating, and soon I hope I will be able to confirm a pregnancy based solely on my temperature. This book is truly a blessing for us and hopefully for many other couples struggling with infertility.
