Rating: Summary: Reading for Two Review: When I first got this book, I couldn't put it down. I went out and got a basal thermometor. My husband is so into the great information that the book has. We're planning on starting a family soon, which is why I bought this book. But we also learned how 'not' to get pregnant while we plan. We tried the 'natural' approach outlined in the book and found that it actually works!! Two thumbs up for this book for planning for pregnancy and avoiding pregnancy.
Rating: Summary: I recommend this book to everyone trying to conceive Review: It took only 8 days after receiving this book to finally get pregnant. Believe me, I've been on fertility treatments for 4 years and this book is a miracle!!
Rating: Summary: All women should read this! Review: I bought this book because I was thinking of starting my family in the near future, and wanted to know the ins and outs of fertility. I also was curious about its claim of "natural" birth control. I was amazed with the wealth of information this book has to offer. Not only about avoiding or achieving pregnancy, but also about the female body in general. I think this is an absolutely invaluable resource for all women. There are things in this book that even most doctors won't tell you. And it makes you realize how truly amazing the female body is.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Book for All Women Review: I bought this book because I wanted to get pregnant and there were a lot of great reviews on Amazon. It has totally exceeded my expectations!! The book truly is an excellent and informative read, and really teaches women what to do to get pregnant and what to do to avoid getting pregnant. While I thought my cycles were "regular" before reading the book, after charting for a few months, I learned I was actually quite irregular. For several months in a row I was ovulating on day 16 or later. When I finally did get pregnant, I ovulated on day 12! Thanks to this book, I recognized the fertility signs immediately and was able to conceive my first child, to my surprise, on day 12.If you're like me, you may get to the section on the Menstrual Cycle and think you might skip it because you already know that stuff. Trust me, chances are good you don't know the half of it - Don't skip that section! It's way more than you learned in sex ed, and it's truly fascinating!
Rating: Summary: This book is great! Review: My cycles are very very irregular meaning I sometimes go as much as two months without menstruating. Because of my irregular cycles I wasn't sure if I could conceive. This book helped me to see that I was definitely ovulating even though it didn't happen every 28 days. I bought this book in April and now I'm pregnant. We are so excited! If it were not for this book it would have been nearly impossible for me to know when I was fertile. I highly recommend this book!!! And Good Luck!
Rating: Summary: The only fertility book you need! Review: If you are looking to use natural family planning to either achieve or avoid pregnancy, then you need to have this book! As far as I'm concerned, there is no other fertility book out there that gives you as much easy-to-understand information as this one. You will learn to chart your basal body temperature, know when your cervical mucous is of fertile quality, and use the position of your cervix in order to discover your point of ovulation. It took us three months to conceive once we started using this method, but we had been trying for months before that with no results. If I hadn't started charting, I might never have found out that I ovulate on day 17 rather than the typically assumed 14 days. As for now, after trying to conceive for 6 months, I have found that I have a short luteal (post-ovulatory) phase which may require some medical intervention...again through the charting. In addition to full color pictures that will illustrate fertility, you will also find dozens of charts to use to compare with your own in order to see if you are charting correctly or if you might have a problem. I can't say enough good things about this book. It's wonderful to be able to "read" your body...you will understand your own rhythms in a whole new way after reading and implementing these methods. TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR FERTILITY will help you to take charge of a part of your life that may sometimes seem out of your control.
Rating: Summary: It Worked For Us !!!! Review: My husband and I were given Toni's book as a gift by cousins in the Seattle, WA, area, after we shared with them we were trying to conceive. Married 12+ years, on the pill the entire time, we didn't know if we could even get pregnant after trying so long NOT to. I'm 38, my husband is 45, so we wanted to approach the challenge armed with as much good information as possible. We can't say enough about this book. Toni spells everything out so anyone can understand the method, and the underlying humor that runs throughout is a Godsend. We got the book in late January 2001, and started using her system for charting my fertility. Only 3 short months later, we were successful in conceiving our first child, who is due in early January 2002. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants a good starting point, and needs common-sense, down-to-earth advice and guidelines. With both of us being biology majors in college, we could appreciate the "biology" of the female body as she spells it out, and it really only takes 5 minutes or less a day to do your charting. We found manual charting to be a bit of a hassle, but happened upon the Lifecycle software (joint venture between Toni and Ovusoft) on the internet, for free during a trial period. The package allowed us to keep our stats on our home pc, which eliminated the manual charting altogether. We highly recommend this book!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Book! Review: I think this is a book well worth reading. I learned so much more about my body than they EVER taught you in any school health class! This taught me how to read my own body signs for fertility, and 2 mos after reading the book and ttc, I was pg! A great educational read, and a MUST for any woman!
Rating: Summary: Empowering and enlightening! Review: This the first time I've been compelled to write a review at Amazon, but I had to add my two cents... "Taking Charge" will take you back through all you learned in health class and then tell you so much more. Get this book either to increase your chances of getting pregnant, or to learn how to avoid it. I know at least eight people who have gotten pregnant using the methods in this book, including myself. I'm currently pregnant with my second child!
Rating: Summary: If you are over 30 and trying to get pregnant - Review: this book will help you save valuable time figuring out what is happening in your cycle. I was skeptical it would work, but after 10 months of trying, we still weren't pregnant despite fairly regular cycles and the use of ovulation kits. The first month we tried using the charting method in the book, we conceived. Toni Weschler offers very specific advice for maximizing your chances of getting pregnant, mentioning information that is not in other books or even discussed by doctors. Don't let the word "natural" in the title mislead you -the book is very scientific. Even if you are not trying for a pregnancy, "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" should be a must read for every woman - it contains fascinating information on how the female cycle works. My backround is in biology and there were new things I learned in reading about fertility awareness.
