Rating: Summary: Knowledge is power Review: This book changed my life. Knowledge is power! The color photographs and medical iformation provided in this book are true gold. I spoke to my gynecologist regarding this information and he ordered a book for his own reference library. Thank you Toni Weschler. You have given a gift to us all.
Rating: Summary: No Long Months of Trying! Review: A friend of mine said, "Whenever you're ready to start trying to conceive, remind me to let you borrow a really good book." Well, I did. This is the book she loaned me and it is wonderful. Be prepared to have a little homework - like taking your temperature daily before getting out of bed & checking you cervical mucus. But this book will become the encyclopedia which deciphers all your bodies signals to help you understand when you ovulate and how to determine if you are pregnant. For me, it took one month to figure out my body and the next month, we're pregnant. This plan works!
Rating: Summary: What a positive experience! Review: This was one of several books I purchased while trying to conceive. And while it has a wealth of valuable information regarding pregnancy achievement, the main thing that struck me about this book was how much it had to teach me about my cycle. It explained the reasoning behind things I thought I knew, but never understood the "why" of. It also shed light on a whole host of "side effects" due to the changing hormones during a woman's complete cycle, putting to rest some of the concerns I had been having about my own body. This book was easy to read and easy to understand. I followed the conception section with successful results and plan to use the book's Fertility Awareness Method of birth control in the future (no more chemicals and artificial hormones!) The best part of the book is really the confidence it gives you in easily and clearly reading your body's signals, and trusting what they're telling you. Great resource for getting pregnant, or making sure you don't!
Rating: Summary: Taking Charge of Your Fertility Review: This is an excellent book. I've been recommending it to all my friends. My husband and I had been trying to get pregnant for 7 months and after reading this book I was pregnant within a month. It has a lot of great info on reading your body signals - great for getting pregnant or using an alternative birth control method. Hard to believe this info isn't more readily available. Buy it, you won't be disappointed! :)
Rating: Summary: the one book you must buy if you are trying to conceive Review: chock full of useful information. You will be amazed at how much you don't know about your own body- and how much there is to learn! Plus, she's very positive and upbeat and tells you how to get pg even if you have very long or short cycles. Other books can be very negative and doom-spreading. This book is a ray of light. A must buy!
Rating: Summary: Every woman should own this book! Review: I was recommended this book by a friend who had recently conceived after trying unsuccessfully for several years. I have been trying to get pregnant for several months myself without any luck. Anyone who has been through unsuccessful conception attempts knows how stressed out every little "sign" or "symptom" can make you! This book is SO wonderful and I have only gotten through the first few chapters. It really helps to understand the female body and menstrual system. It's just amazing. I have believed for so long that I was unusual and now find that I am not. I think this book will make me both a happier and healthier person - and I hope that it will help make me a mother finally as well. You don't need to be trying to get pregnant to necessitate buying this book. It's important information for EVERY woman. It talks about birth control, menopause, EVERYTHING! Knowledge gives us power! Lets take control of our own bodies and stop relying on doctors who do not know what it actually feels like to be inside our skins.
Rating: Summary: Great tips Review: This book at great insight into understanding your cycle. It help me understand alot. You don't realize how much you forget about human biology.
Rating: Summary: Gee, 3 1/2 years and still no baby.... Review: I bought this book about two years ago based on the strong recommendations of some friends. My husband and I had been suffering thru a raging bout of infertility and had hoped that this book would be our salvation. Instead, once we came upon our diagnosis, the book did little else than tell us to get lost! After trying to have a baby for 3 1/2 years, we were finally diagnosed with male factor infertility. My husband was devastated and wanted to know if there were any herbal remedies he could take or if he could somehow adjust his lifestyle to aid in our dilemma. Ms. Weschler basically states that she has little to no experience with male factor infertility and her recommendation is to go see a specialist. What a frank and, quite honestly, RUDE way to advise readers!! She spends pages and pages poring over female related fertility issues which, although educational, doesn't cover the broad spectrum. She also advises men to wear looser undies and avoid hot tubs, but this is not directed to men who have known low sperm counts. What a waste of money this book was for my family! Some might say I'm bitter because we still haven't had our baby and that I'm inappropriately directing my frustration at Ms. Weschler and her book. But I feel that if you are going to write a book called "Taking Charge of your Fertility", you shouldn't address it just to women. Afterall, there are TWO bodies needed to produce a baby, and both of these bodies need to be fertile. I do believe that this book is good for couples who are curious about pregnancy and fertility, but MEN, if you are suffering from a low sperm count, don't buy this book! Find something that will deal solely with your problem because Ms. Weschler obviously doesn't take the time to adequately discuss the issue.
Rating: Summary: A Great Guide to Chemical-Free Birth Control! Review: Over the years, I have discovered that I am chemically sensitive to spermicides, allergic to latex, and had irregular PAP smears when on the pill. This didn't leave me with any good choices for birth control outside of pull and pray! After reading Toni's book, I can't believe how much more I understand about my own body, and how much more empowered I feel to take charge of my reproductive health. For the first time in my life, I can enjoy intimacy with my partner without worrying about pregnancy, or living with the discomfort that the other methods bring! Toni is a lifesaver!
Rating: Summary: Very informative book! Review: I really enjoyed reading this book. I learned so much about my own body and reproductive cycle, much more than I had ever been taught in school or from any doctor or nurse. It helped me become aware of my own signs of fertility. I used it to maximize my chances of getting pregant- and I did! Now my sister is borrowing it for the opposite purpose: natural birth control. ONe thing I liked about this book is that it inlcuded anecdotes about real couples trying to concieve. FOr me, I did not actually chart my temperatures, but I used other information that helped me know when I was fertile. I recommend this book to any woman of childbearing age.
