Rating: Summary: This is "the" book for women Review: I poured over this book and simply couldn't put it down. All women should read this book to understand how their bodies work. It was truly fascinating. Toni Weschler's book is easy to understand, medically informative, and has great illustrations. Personally, I am using it for birth control and am thrilled to be naturally taking charge of my fertility. Anyone who is trying to get pregnant should also read it because it explains exactly how to know when you are ovulating and even gives advice on choosing the sex of your baby. I can't recommend this book enough to all women.
Rating: Summary: Useful for "regular " and "irregular" women Review: I too suffer from PCOS (cystic ovaries) and contrary to another reviewer with PCOS who found this book not helpful, I found it to be very helpful. Because of the PCOS, my cycles are very irregular (ranging from 30 days to 85 days). Because of the irregularity of my cycles, charting my temperature did not show any clear patterns or allow me to predict which day of my cycle I would ovulate (I completely envy the women who can). What I did find very useful was the information regarding my body's own natural signs of my fertile days (cervical mucus and cervical positioning). Monitoring these allowed me to identify my fertile days and approaching ovulation. Using the temperature charting in conjunction with my body's natural signs of fertility allowed me to confirm ovulation had happened and I could start monitoring whether pregnancy had been achieved. After following this method for 6 cycles, I am now 5 months pregnant and expecting my first child in early September.
Rating: Summary: This book has multiple uses Review: I would recommend this book to any woman who is searching for information about her body/reproductive cycle, an effective guide to pregnancy achievement, or an effective guide to natural birth control.I found this book to be very educational, as well as helpful in achieving pregnancy. Many of my questions were answered and speculations were confirmed regarding my body and reproductive cycle-- things that I was never taught during the "Human Reproduction" unit in health class (after all these years, I now know that I am normal). I have a much better understanding of my body. I originally bought the book for information regarding pregnancy achievement. Using the information from the book, I was able to achieve pregnancy within 6 cycles (and I didn't always strictly adhere to the regimen). After the birth of my child, I will continue to use the information regarding natural birth control-- I am tired of the more physically and chemically intrusive methods.
Rating: Summary: Wow! Review: This book taught me so much! I learned more about my body than I ever did in Sex Education and Health class in school. I highly recommend this book to all women.
Rating: Summary: If I had only known.... Review: If I had only known 6 months ago what I know now, It's as if a someone has turned the light on and it's great. I never knew what anovulation was until I read TCOYF. After reading this book and charting for a month I could see no pattern and I must admit it was frustrating me. Me and my husband had been trying to conceive for 6 months before I purchased this book. And seeing no pattern of lows and highs prompted me to begin rereading the book in conjunction with charting. As I was doing this everything just clicked! The fact that there was no rhyme or reason to my charts and temps was exactly the pattern of anovulation. It was then I realized what my stressful job, fatigue, constant traveling was doing to my body. I had read the book prior to charting but without actually seeing it I just did not comprehend it. Thanks to Toni and her wonderful book I'm in control. I feel much more confident about myself and what is going on with my body! We have not conceived yet but I am confident that we will soon! I would suggest to anyone who purchases this book to read it before charting and then reread as you begin charting. If you do not have the time to reread keep it close as a reference.
Rating: Summary: Necessary reading for every woman Review: Every woman should read this book, whether she is trying to get pregnant (or trying not to). The author gives excellent and easy to understand information about women's bodies. I considered myself well-informed until I read this book. I am eager to put her methods to use in my quest for pregnancy.
Rating: Summary: Not just for women! Review: Whether you're a woman or a man, this book is an excellent guide to fertility awareness. Come on guys! It's not just the woman's job to take contraceptive measures. If you truly care about your mate you'll want to know what's going on with her body. This book breaks it down with descriptions and measures that are easily understood and implemented, helping you and your lover enjoy a more fulfilling and natural sexual life without the worries of unwanted pregnancy (or if you desire pregnancy ways to achieve it). This book is great for dispelling popular myths (e.g. day 14 ovulation and temperature shift occurring during ovulation) and educating both parties involved without either oversimplifying the material or rendering it unnecessarily complicated. I guarantee you that everyone who reads this book will learn something. Don't let foolish pride or embarrassment hold you back from obtaining information that everyone (man or woman) is entitled to. Take charge, and know your partner's body as well as your own! ----> Mike (21 yr. male college student)
Rating: Summary: False hope Review: This book put a six month delay on me exploring my situation with my doctor. We are living in the 21st century...if you are having trouble conceiving, go see your doctor before purchasing this book!
Rating: Summary: An outstanding book! Review: I cannot recommend this book highly enough. Just a ton of information that answers so many questions I was afraid to ask. All the information your gynecologist doesn't have time to tell you.
Rating: Summary: Should be required reading for all women Review: After trying to concieve for 14 months, I finally broke down and bought this book- which had been recommended by several people. I was pregnant 2 months later. It taught me so much about my body. After reading this book, I figured out that although my period returned immediatly after going off the Depo two years before, I had only been ovulating for about 6 months. I could have saved myself so much heartache if I had just started with this book. Now that I had the baby, I am using it to figure out mywhen I start ovulating again. I have given this book to two friends since finding out they were trying and both were pregnant within three months.
